They get annoyed if you show up in person to enroll and if you try enrolling online the screen will load for 15 minutes and then take you back to where you started. I felt that I should update my review now that I am back at Estrella for the second time! I am currently completing a massage therapy program here - it is through Gateway Community College but done at Estrella. Being back here is so nostalgic! I loved it when I was here years ago and I love it now. There have been many upgrades done since I was last here. I still have so much to see, but so far some things that stand out are the beautiful water feature by enrollment services, updated new buildings, and little convenient bonuses such as a microwave and water bottle fountains. The bathrooms are clean and always smell nice. I am really happy to be back, and I am looking forward to exploring the rest of the campus. Thank you for having us Gateway students! Let me tell you how horrible this is. Don't take Business with Clarissa Ragland-Davis. Her material was horrible, containing answers from previous groups/sessions. Things weren't laid out correctly. You wouldn't have access to certain assignments, well past the due date, then one day everything opened up and I had 2 days to fill it out while I was out of town. I reached out to her 4 times and got no response. Then I reached out to Becky Baranowski, who is some sort of dean, she's she gives me a wrong link, then when I ask clarification and back and forth, I finally get, "oh. The date has passed. Too bad, too sad". This is what you get at this community college. read more

Geology teacher Zachary Kovach was upset I was on my phone during a lecture after my pet had just died. I just graduated high school early to get started on my credits. Zachary stopped the lecture and made all of his class look at me, he asked me what I was doing that was so important on my phone. I had to share with the whole class my family pet just died with tears in my eyes. He told me to get off my phone, no sympathy no questions. I proceeded to drop my phone and say fine. Zachary Kovach was standing so close to me my phone landed on his feet. He proceeded to say he was going to call SECURITY on me to get me ESCORTED OUT (I was a 17 year old 120lb female, he was a 37 year old 230lb man!). I was in tears looking around at my classmates begging for somebody to say wtf? Ofc nobody did. The next day he dropped me from his class. The dean of students didn't care, said they could do an investigation and interview all of the students in my class but that would take 60 days. I hadn't even been in his class for 30 days. She said within the time for the investigation my assignments would still be given to me but I wouldn't be able to come to class so I would fail regardless. I payed $350 for his 2 credit class and they gave me a $150 class with 1 credit instead. Not to mention they tried to keep me in a room because they said I wasn't "calm enough" to go back to my remaining classes. Fuck this school. I was in Intro to phycology at 9am and walked into a guy describing a 6 year old girl getting R*ped, no warning, no discussion, our topic was about child development. IT WAS INTRO. This is disgusting idk how something like that is looked down on for our senior year of high school but so accepted when we're freshmen in college. I don't need to learn about that shit for a REQUIREMENT to graduate. If I choose to pay for a stupid fuck ass class that probably won't even get me hired to work at a warehouse I'm gonna choose to be 5 min late, I'm gonna choose to be on my phone, the only thing as a professor you should give a damn about is that I PAYED FOR THE CLASS, IF IM GONNA FAIL IM GONNA FAIL, it's not up to them to think my learning skills aren't effective enough. I'm not in kindergarten anymore this is college. We are adults we have real world issues. Don't talk about how we can bring our kids to class if we don't have a baby sister but drop us if we are on our phones mf. DEFUND ALL EDUCATION. Estrella is very quick to get your financial aid pulled and when you submit appeals they will be denied just as fast with no notification why. The school's "double dipping" when financial aid has paid for the class and I fail, then bill me for it again should be illegal. This is only my second semester, and I am far from impressed. read more

I went to another Maricopa college and I love EMCC by far! From the whole transferring process they were incredibly helpful. The staff and professors are great! I finished my associate of arts and I am now in the RN program at EMCC (which is one of the top nursing programs in Arizona based on NCLEX pass rate). read more

EMCC is pretty decent, it's smaller and not as overcrowded as GCC. They offer Online classes too. Decent Instructors...some good, some not so great, but that could happen at any school. The campus cafe is very tiny, like the size of living room. Bring your own bagged lunch or snacks, plenty of places to sit. The campus is located on the NW corner of Dysart & Thomas. Parking has never been a problem here. Classes fill up very quickly each semester, so sign up early. read more

The Financial Aid Office/Supervisor is Completely Incompetent!..... The school however is fine, but the financial aid staff do not know what they are doing. It takes 5 people to figure out 1 problem, then when the "Supervisor" is called she is no better, and acts as though she knows what she is talking about and is completely worthless. If it weren't for this unprofessional FA staff & their supervisor, this school would be a much better option in the west valley for community colleges. The executive board needs to "clean house" and get rid of those who can't efficiently guide students through the FA process, without acting like it's a burden, and unwillingness to assist beyond their means, and complete lack of professionalism whatsoever! They are doing something completely wrong in the Advisement office. After we arrived and checked in my son received a text that there was one person ahead of us and we had approximately 9 minutes until we could talk to an Advisor. 50 (yes 50!!) minutes later we still had not talked to anyone. I went to the front desk twice to ask what was up and they only said it shouldn't be long. No apology, no sensitivity. We ended up leaving because I work full time and literally spent my entire lunch break and more waiting. I'm an adult and lost my patience/interest. Can't imagine how a student would feel. Our questions could be answered over the phone but alas, you can't talk to an Advisor over the phone you need to go into the office. Not exactly setting students up for success. read more

Not too small, not too big, and a great community of staff, faculty, and students alike! It's a Maricopa Community College, so it has many similarities... same pricing and all that. Lots of outdoor seating and nice areas, plus some cool water features. If you can find them, there is a Koi Pond and a Turtle Pond near Ocotillo (unfortunately, most people use that area for smoking.) The Library is great, too. They have a restaurant for culinary students, but I've never been. Oh, and some of the buildings are pretty awesome. Mariposa, for example, is very "green" in design (very environmentally friendly inside and out) and even turns into a water feature when it rains here in the desert :) This is probably to mimic the waterfalls that occur in places like the White Tanks when it rains here. Classes do fill up quickly, and there is no late enrollment. Some classrooms are small, others are nicely sized. Some have computers for every student, others do not have enough or any at all. As for the computers in the classrooms... lots of issues with them, but other students are likely the cause! Overall, such a great community college! read more

My ambitious younger cousin decided to sign up for some online internet courses over the summer. His high school has a deal with the community colleges in Phoenix and EMCC was the closest one to his place. Though you can pretty much enroll and register online, you do have to come down in person to prove AZ residency. We decided to go down to EMCC, mentally preparing ourselves for a campus run-around, red tape, and long lines, instead we were pleasantly surprised. We were in and out in about 15 minutes. The staff at Student Services was incredibly helpful and knew exactly what to do. We didn't have to walk around to 10 different buildings getting our forms signed. Thank God! On top of that EMCC's campus is beautiful. Being built in the 90s, Estrella Mountain is a nice modern campus, new buildings and well landscaped. Parking is convenient and it looks like there are actually couple neat places to eat and hang out on campus. Definitely not your typical community college. read more

Teachers are amazing but my advisor gave me misleading information and now I am not able to graduate with a degree in Communications like I was planning. I worked with the same advisor for about a year and she was aware that I was focusing on a Communications major. Once graduation time came around she completely started ignoring my emails and I had no other ways to get ahold of her because of the covid-19 school closure. After I already missed my graduation deadline and the multiple emails I sent her went without a response, I had no choice but to reach out to another advisor to help me get my degree for summer graduation. It was only when I talked to another advisor I learned that I was missing a required course to get my degree in Communications. After working so hard I am so heartbroken that I will now have to get a degree in Arts after I spent so much time taking Communications classes. I wanted a degree in Communications because that is the field of work I'm in. The advisor that ruined my plans and the degree I worked so hard for simply said sorry in an email and that was it. She didn't sympathize or offer any kind of resolution or guidance as to my options. She let me down and nobody at the school is willing to help me. Estrella Mountain Community College completely dropped the ball and ruined my college experience and my degree that I will carry with me my entire life. read more

The employees/students at EMCC are very friendly, however, they can be very unprofessional. I feel like students run the campus and the adults sit and watch. It's been almost a month for the entire Maricopa county school district to process my one piece of paperwork, holding me back from financial awarding. I've been in arizona for 4 years and this happens to be the most unprofessional school I've had to deal with. Never, have I witnessed such a lack of work ethic in a higher education facility. I'm not even sure I want to attend EMCC anymore, for the simple fact that I've spent months trying to get prepared for school, when they may not award me at all. Why should I have to call every week to make sure you're doing your job? I see no justification in that whatsoever. I have my own job to do, so I'd expect them to do their job, not laugh and giggle on the phone because you're not used to the technology. Isn't that the reason you're working at the school? To learn?? It just blows my mind that they take an entire week to process 1 days worth of paperwork. I hope they get it together soon, especially for the safety of my education. I'd hate to be taught by the same people that can't even file simple paperwork. read more

EMCC is a beautiful campus. It is not overcrowded. I take co and pre-requisites for my BSN here and at GCC. They have some excellent A & P (BIO 201 and 202) professors. They have horrible Chemistry and Microbiology professors. Please see ratemyprofessor.com. They have a new nursing adviser. I recommend avoiding her and going to the nursing advisor at GCC. EMCC has gone thru several nursing advisors over the last year. This one gives out incorrect information on a regular basis. I placed EMCC at the bottom of my nursing CEP list, because of the advising disarray. read more

I've been coming here on and off since 2009. I've had great professors overall. 3 of them I didn't care too much for. I never had a problem with financial aid staff, just advisement. I have waited an hour for advisement even if there's 2 students in front of me. One of the advisors in Buckeye talked to me for a minute and then got up to help other students and ignored me for the rest of the time even though I wasn't done asking questions. read more

The Medical Assisting program is amazing! It is hands on and you are required to perform many clinical procedures in the lab. There are over 100 blood draws that are needed to be performed and tons of injections, vitals, etc. It helps prepare you for a future job as a Medical Assistant. It also promotes proper technique and gets rid of any fear of doing any procedures. Mrs Thank and Mrs Galligan are amazing Instructors. Mrs Susan is a great block 1 instructor. They all help their students succeed in the program and they are not the "out to get you" kind of teachers. They want their students to succeed and excel out there in the field. When the students succeed, they too succeed at their job. They prepare one to be a healthcare professional. It's definitely not like other programs out there. Not to mention that the price is also very reasonable!!!!! read more

The financial aid department at Estrella Mountain Community college is such a joke they don't deserve any stars. I got my financial aid put on a freeze due to my medical and they still won't give it back. I have a 3.0 Gpa. I've filled out all the paperwork they need and they keep saying they need more or haven't received any. I know its bull because some of the people I have been able to talk to about it, have said they have all the paperwork. And then when I call back a few days later about my application all of a sudden its that they don't have it or I need to send more stuff. I'm just done with this school. They can't get their story straight at all. How am I suppose to go to school and get my grant if their not allowing it. and making excuses. read more

I have been going to Estrella for over 4 years and it feels like home. I love all the instructors the college is very nicely structured and you can easily navigate around the campus. They also have study rooms to study and have a lot of places to get help with class like math tutoring, writing, and science. I love this school!! :) read more

This school was a good school to go to. However, the registration process was frustrating. But once you got past registration, it's smooth sailing from there... until you decide you actually want to work here. If you do choose to work here, you are warned. Communication is extremely bad, especially in the HR department. That's why I gave it only 3 stars. I used to work here before I moved to a different state. I worked in the HR department and management was terrible. The HR manager was very rude, acted too much like a self-absorbed queen, and scrutinized me for not knowing information that was supposed to be relayed CLEARLY and EFFICIENTLY. Must have been the Phoenix heat or something. Anyway, classes are pretty easy, but registration can be a pain, and HR people are pretty much deranged. read more

Estrella Mountain Community College has one of the nicest campuses/buildings for being a community college. Beautiful campus. The education is sub par. I recommend morning/day classes as you will find more professors that actually teach as opposed to most (not all) adjuncts that read out of a book or off a PowerPoint in the evenings. I have experienced some amazing classes/professors and I have also experienced some pretty pathetic teaching styles. I believe a professors success is based off of the comprehension and success of the students and some teachers are just okay with collecting a check for showing up and having students teach themselves. - which I understand, but the teacher is paid for a reason that goes beyond assigning work and logging attendance. Don't get me wrong, I've passed all my classes here but feel like I have been done a disservice in some with the professors who were teaching! This school is absolutely terrible. I had a GCC advisor recommend that I take an online course through this school so I followed the advice and deeply regretted it. I finished all of the homework assigned to us on the first day of class, and the teacher said if it was not completed then you will get dropped. I completed all assignments given in the small amount of time allotted and she still dropped me. I emailed her screenshots of the assignments being completed on time and she did not even have the decency to contact me back. I then called her chairman and all he said was that the teacher has the right to drop students and did nothing at all to help me understand why I had even been dropped in the first place. He even told me he could see where I had completed all of the assignments on time. Very unprofessional with very little care or regard for their students. Worse experience I have ever had while attending college. DO NOT GO TO ESTRELLA!!!!! read more
