This was supposed to be a short stop over on our way to Quebec city. Instead, I'm already trying to…read morethink of when I can come back. The place is beautiful, the photos do not do the rooms justice, and the breakfast is simply phenomenal. The hosts were really nice and stayed up to accommodate us driving in late. The rooms are well appointed, the bathrooms nice and clean. The grounds of the place is beautiful, lots of wildflowers, and next to a lake. Did I mention the three-course breakfast? Local jams with turkey pate, waffles with lots of wonderful fruits, freshly squeezed orange juice, and a crème brûlée grapefruit. I'm sad I didn't get to spend as much time here this time, but definitely planning to come back for a longer stay next time.

Manoir De La Rue Merry is the very best kind of BnB. The location is ideal for Magog, you're right by the cute bridge by the cute park and beach and the awesome local brew pub is a few steps away and so is the Rue Principale, ie; main street, with other cute restaurants and shops. The bed was super comfortable, the sheets and pillows were so deeply cosy, the room had it's own clean, nice little bathroom. There is a fireplace downstairs in a common room that connects to a whole hallway of maps and guidebooks for the region. The dining room is full of light and set with lovely cutlery, white table cloths, lace curtains, so calm and sunny and lovely. The owner will serve you coffee and juice in a champagne glass and then a 4 course beautiful breakfast which by the way, she made. She's happy to tell you about the different jams and preserves, the local cheeses and meats she's using, etc. She's calm and sweet and generally makes you feel at home, without that awkwardness... Because let's be real, I'm not always a fan of the bed and breakfast, sometimes this can be weird with weird forced interactions with strangers and mediocre food made by non-food professionals. The Merry Manor is the opposite, it's the best, so friendly and intimate and awesome, and I'll be back for sure.

The original building is actually a replica of George a Washington's Mt. Vernon and still has many of the period floors and interior decor. The food and services are outstanding with many traditional dinner dishes like dock and steaks. They offer a wonderful brunch and there's even the "Tap Room" for more casual dining. First of all a group of us went to this stunningly beautiful restaurant on the water as part of the…read more Three Pines Tour and is frequented by Louise Penny, the author. We didn't have to wait long to be seated even though there were six of us. There were so many appealing items on the menu that it was hard to chose. Our server, Chau, was patient and helpful (even when I changed my mind about what to eat). Most of us ordered non-alcoholic drinks (their lemonade is delicious and not too sweet) and their home-baked bread, which was cut into quarters, was hearty and delicious, especially with the fresh butter that melted on impact. I started out with the Gaspacho, which was nice and cold, flavorful and just a bit chunky. For the main course I chose the Lobster Roll, without the roll, with half salad and half french fries. The meal in total was out of this world, and if I lived here I'd be at this place frequently. This restaurant also has facilities for recreation such as swimming pools, spa and I believe you can book a room as well. The grounds are spectacular and a perfect place to get away from the city. This establishment was awarded with the distinction at par with the Micheline 5-star rating, and I can understand why, even only having seen a fraction of the facilities. It's a little piece of heaven.

So I booked a night to stay over on our way to Charlevoix. The Good: certainly that breakfast earns its reputation. It's conventional but really good, as is the coffee. Service in the cafe also quite good. The Bad: bedbugs. Found in the bedsheets. I get the feeling the staff knows they have a problem because when we brought it up they were indifferent to it. Did not make for a good nights sleep. The Other: scenery around the hotel is pretty nice, quiet and peaceful. Parking is street parking.

This was my mom's request and any chance to spend time in Quebec is something we all love. North Harley is a charming little town with some unique shops and of course, this delightful Inn, L'Auberge de la Chocolatière, or The Chocolate Makers Inn. The café has a nice array of breakfast, lunch and dinner items, as well as desserts. We were promptly seated. Staff is perfectly bilingual (which is pretty common for this area). I ordered the Grilled Cheese Panini with comes with side salad or soup of the day. I chose the latter, a celery and mushroom (non dairy) veloûté. My mom ordered the sane whereas my dad got the pepper and eggs Panini with chèvre and the soup. We each ordered the thé froid, iced tea, a slightly sweetened iced herbal tea. The Panini was delicious. It was a perfect combination of sweet and savory. The soup was creamy, properly seasoned and piping hot. As there was a chill in the air, it hit the spot. The service was excellent. We opted to forgo dessert, but we did get an array of 12 artisanal chocolates to go. We had mom choose the flavors from over almost 40 offerings in dark, milk and white chocolate. Each chocolate has a fine-thick sliver of topping or sprinkling of herbs or spices, such as dried cranberries, apricot, elderflower, cassis, cayenne pepper, sea salt, lavender, coconut, cardamom. In essence, a chocolate lovers paradise. In the car, we sampled the pralined and the apricot. The chocolate is extremely high quality and not too sweet. There's a lot of love out into those concoctions. The store also sells maple syrup candies and syrup, small and large bars of the chocolates, etc. It was a lovely first meal in the region. I would cone back here to enjoy the area's outdoor offerings and perhaps stay here.
