I was looking for a wedding dress with my partner. We went in on a Saturday, which their website says is not appointment only. The woman at the front asked me when my wedding was, and I said within the next year. I asked if we could look around, and she told me that the staff are paid by commission and implied that if we weren't guaranteed to buy a dress that day then they wouldn't be making commission and wouldn't want to serve us. She also said that they don't want to spend their time on customers who are not guaranteed to purchase a dress that day because they would prefer to spend time on customers who had a higher chance of purchasing that day. On the day that we went, it was not busy and it seemed that there was only 1 bridal party in the store. I recommend going somewhere else. read more

I went here to check out some wedding dresses with my sister/maid of honour, and had a very good experience :) Price-wise, I'd say the dresses ranged from average to expensive (about $1000-3000). They had a fairly sizeable selection, and I actually found 2 of my favourite dresses so far here :) The lady helping me was very accommodating in terms of trying to get dresses that were not my size to fit me so I could see what they looked like :P I was also offered a nice discount on one dress, and she gave me lots of advice on alterations & such, and was just very friendly and helpful in general. So yeah, overall, I'd say I had a very good time shopping here & would recommend it to others (as long as you're not working on a dirt-cheap budget... you might have very few choices looking here, if that were the case). read more

The ladies at Ethos, are the absolute best. Hands down. I'm getting married this August, and I went to several bridal stores before theirs, and the experience at Ethos was amazing in comparison. They all know what they're talking about when it comes to making a bride look their best. I was talked in to trying on a dress I thought I was dead set against, and immediately fell in love. I never would have pictured myself in it, but it's like my dress was made for me. When I went for my first fitting, and the dress didn't fit exactly how I needed it to, they got on top of it right away and did everything possible to make it look and fit perfectly and make me comfortable. I would recommend Ethos to any bride or anyone in need of a gown for an event! I love all the women who work here, they do a phenomenal job and genuinely care about their customers. In terms of customer service, I would give Ethos no stars, perhaps even -10. Back when I was newly engaged, I was also fairly new to Calgary and Ethos was the only bridal shop I knew of, living a few blocks away. It seemed perfect. It wasn't. I made an appointment and when the day arrived, my mom and I grabbed lattes and excitedly headed over. The 'consultant' I got was less than enthusiastic; I felt like a herded sheep. They are paid to be part of a bride's big day and should make each customer feel important. Not to mention that each bride is prepared to spent a lot of money at Ethos; this alone should be incentive to try. After being put in a tiny dressing room, we discussed the type of dress I wanted. I said I wanted a simple yet glamourous dress; somewhat old Hollywood style with absolutely no poof! She went searching and brought me back a few dresses. Every one of them was so big and poofy that they wouldn't even fit in the change room. I went over my list again, telling her that I detest princess dresses, yet she continued to bring me poofy cakes. My mom pulled her aside to have a chat and the woman (inappropriately) started commenting on my body type plus the current trends. Telling her that I didn't care about trends and being 5'6", 120 pounds that my body type is fine thanks, she bitterly brought me a few dresses along the lines of what I was looking for. This entire time, she was far more interested in helping another bride with poofy dresses so I spent a lot of time waiting around. The entire experience was so disheartening that we left and I actually didn't want to shop for my dress for awhile after. After a few weeks, somebody recommended The Bridal Centre and I made an appointment. They were so accomodating from phone call to purchase to alterations that they make their major competitor, Ethos, cower in a corner. Brides, if you want to hang onto your enthusiasm, I would not recommend Ethos in any way, shape, or form. read more

I wouldn't purchase something here if I had the choice. If I get married, or need a formal gown for something, Ethos will not be on the list of places I'll be going. Ever. It's not that I've had a PARTICULARLY horrible experience here, only that they ordered the wrong size because they don't know their designers well enough to know what is made big/what is made small etc. They did rectify this with offering to cover the cost of the alterations after two of us stood there in our satin potato sacks. When I wanted to go back for my fitting of the altered dress, they didn't have my appointment listed. While my experience wasn't mind-crushingly terrible, this place is stuffed to the gills with dresses, and it's like they pump brides and bridesmaids through like cattle. If you try and go on a Saturday, you're one of a billion people in there. Not exactly the special experience most brides have in mind. I went with a friend and we were told what we were trying on, we were told what was "crap", and I was told I was "difficult" because I wanted a simple gown for a destination wedding. I purchased my wedding dress here (Spring 2010 for my July 2010 wedding) after visiting almost every gown store in the city. The lady that dressed me was dealing with several people at once because the store is quite busy, especially during springtime. She sold me a brand name gown but tried to convince me to order a copy created by their own dressmakers. I was firm in my request for a brand-name gown so she did not bother me any further with the idea of getting a copy gown. The dress was pricey but I expected it to be because I knew the ballpark range it would sell for before going in. The lady sold me the gown I tried on even though it was a sample they had just received and she said she wasn't supposed to... but because I went in "too late for special orders", she sold it to me anyway. I was hoping for a discount because it was a sample gown, but apparently I was the "first to try it on". (sure, sure :) ). Ethos is a very busy place, so don't go in there expecting to be treated like a princess. I don't know of any bridal shop that treats everyone like a princess anyway, so why should you be any different? Also, do your research before going into Ethos or any bridal gown boutique. - Bring images of gowns you would like to try on. KNOW how much they are... you can do this by researching online. - Do not go into a bridal store with no idea of what you want. If you are just browsing, chances are that you will be ignored. - Expect a crowd on the weekend. Be firm and knowledgeable about what you are purchasing, and you will do fine in this store. Remember that the bridal industry is fast-paced and competitive, as there are many ladies getting married.... especially in the summertime. If you want to order a dress, shop at least a year beforehand. Do NOT wait until the last minute. I basically lucked out when the lady sold me the sample gown. She was ultra awesome for that; however, I've knocked off one star for trying to push us to order a copy. I think copies of anything are tacky, personally. Please note that I am reviewing Ethos based on not having to order something and wait for it to come in, and also I got my alterations done elsewhere. They were outright rude to my bridesmaids - and as much as we chose the dress at their location, we all refused to give them any business of any kind based on our experience. I've had two brides telling me that they had wonderful experiences with Ethos. I've been to Ethos -- maybe, twice? The first time I came here was a few years ago, with my maid of honour, I was wanting to try on a tea-length dress. I did try some on, but the comment I received was that "this dress looks like a bridesmaid's dress. You should try this one instead." (Okay, commission hunter, I get it. Longer dresses = more expensive than tea-length dresses) Okay, I was slightly put off by the comment, but I was open-minded. With samples, you would only get 10% off -- which isn't a whole lot, considering the average price of a dress is between 700 to 1000, before alterations. What really helped though was the saleslady at the time is also a seamstress. So, it was nice to get ideas on bustle -- if you're looking for a train. The thing I wished they had told me about was how they maintain your file. They only keep your top dress choices for 6 months. When I went back, they only had the dress I liked in a size 16 sample. Had the communication process been more honest and clear, shopping here wouldn't have left a weird after-taste. read more

This is where I found my wedding gown. Actually, I found the dress online and then learned that Ethos carried the particular bridal line (Jasmine), so I called them and booked an appointment. The staff are very helpful and will help you try on as many dresses as you'd like before you decide on "the one"; they don't hassle or rush you at all. The only thing I noticed about the service was that they obviously work on commission. Normally, this is okay, but when one saleslady tried to steal me (i.e. the sale) from another, it made for a bit of discomfort and tension during the appointment. I say first dibs, and nothing else. It's unfair. I like their range in wedding gowns, but the choice in bridesmaids dresses is fairly smaller and not as great, but still pretty expensive. They didn't actually have my particular dress in stock, but were able to order it from Europe. It took a few months, so make sure you allow plenty of time to find your dress before the wedding in case you need to order it in. They also carry bridal accessories like hair pieces, veils, and jewelry for your big day. I don't think they carry bridal shoes, however. They don't offer in-house tailoring, but can recommend a tailor they've worked with quite often. A little bonus -- they throw in a free blue garter when you purchase your dress. This was the first place I made an appointment with to try on wedding dresses. The consultant took the necessary information upon my arrival (ceremony and reception location, style in mind, etc.) and found me a selection of dresses to try on based on my answers. While I tried on several dresses (because I just can't make up my mind about anything), it turned out that the consultant was spot on becuase the very first dress I tried on was the one I ended up buying. I even went to a few other bridal stores to try on other dresses (the customer service and selection at Ethos was far better than other stores I tried) and I still ended up coming back here. The consultant made sure that there was enough seats for my guests while I was trying on dresses (Bridesmaids, mother and future mother-in-law) and when I was "hemming and hawing" about whether the dress was the "one" (it was), she let me walk up and down the hall (inside the store) in my dress to see how I felt in it and to view myself walking in the dress from the side. This really helped me make a decision and I appreciate how patient she was. Another great thing about this places is that they have a lot more parking then some of the other places I went to. The lot is "pay parking" but still preferred over places that only had a few stalls. If there was a downside to this place, It would be that I could not find the veil I wanted there. I had to buy it at a different location because they told me that I would have time to order a dress but that a veil couldn't be ordered in time (getting married in 6 months). This didn't make sense to me but I didn't argue. The dresses also seem to be slightly higher in price than some of the other stores that I have been to but they also seem to be of better quality and more beautiful. Lastly, the store is so busy on weekends that you really need to work to get the attention of the lady at the desk to get checked in for your appointment. Once you are in though the service is great. Tip: Make an appointment if it's a weekend because the store can be very busy at times. read more

I went to Ethos on a whim, not really thinking I'd find anything. One of my 'maids and I browsed around and found something interesting for me to try on. The sales lady talking to us was very friendly, and when asked she produced and adorable (longer) tea length gown for me to try at a nice price point ($750). My dilemma with tea length has been that I never saw myself wearing a tea length gown for my entire wedding day, and with this one being longer, it was a nice compromise. She helped my in to a huge petticoat so I could see the dress in it's "fullness potential" and wrote everything down for us before we left. One thing I will say is that the gown was a lot lower in quality than any of the other ones I have tried on up to that point. It was one layer of tulle on top of the under layers, and because of that, it didn't really give me the "princess bride" feeling I was going for. The shop is a little older and could use some upgrades, and the 'maids dresses always seems to be one the more disorganized end of things. They did have a lovely selection of black fascinators with crystal accented birdcage veiling. Bonus! This shop is worth a look if you're on a budget, and unless things have changed, they don't offer in house alterations. (When my bridesmaids got their dresses here during my first miserably failed engagement years ago, that was the case). Worth a peek if you're in the area. read more

I was wedding dress shopping with my daughter last week and after reading some reviews on Yelp, was hesitant to book with Ethos. The reviews couldn't have been more wrong! My daughter and I had the best possible experience shopping at Ethos. The woman that helped us was professional, attentive and knew the product line. She was so patient with us as we took way longer than expected to make a selection... there were so many dresses, the prices were reasonable and they all looked amazing! I highly recommend going to Ethos to shop. Thanks to Ethos for making this experience so fun!! Horrible customer service. Sold my fiancé a vail that contained holes. Before proceeding to rectify the situation we were informed that "we don't do returns" and would require a store credit. Sure- my fiancé managed to find something that worked. But the store employee cut the price tag and said it would be an equivalent exchange. I went shopping here for my wedding dress on a Thursday afternoon. It wasn't too busy which was nice and I was assisted by a very nice lady who it turns out also sold my sister-in-law her wedding dress 8 years earlier. We were in the store for god knows how long and this woman had no problem running around getting me different dresses and helping me into them. I still had more appointments to attend so I didn't want to make a decision yet but I did find a dress I loved. I ended up coming back two weeks later to purchase the dress. The were making it for me so I came back in 6 months to pick it up. I had such a great experience I decided to go back and find the bridesmaid dresses there. The sales people in that department aren't the same which is unfortunate because the service was mediocre at best. I found a dress I liked and my sister-in-law paid for hers that day. The staff was accommodating enough not to send in the order until all the dresses were paid for. I'd been told stories of the dresses being made separately and turning out to be different shades as they were cut from different bolts of fabric. I also ordered myself a furry jacket that same day as they didn't have it in stock and said it would take a few months to make more as well. The girls all went in for their fittings separately. One of my friends lives in Edmonton and at the suggestion of the staff, she could go into the Edmonton location to try on the dress and then call in her payment information. She said the Edmonton staff were very rude to her and kept trying to steal the sale from the Calgary location. I went in and put a deposit on the last dress myself for my friend who was living overseas at the time. I then went through all the info to ensure they had the right sizes and colors ordered. They didn't. They had the incorrect sizes for all 4 dresses and the incorrect dress style. At least the color was correct. The lady that was helping me had no idea how to even work the computer which was amazing because she wasn't new to this store. I was getting nervous but we eventually got everything straightened out and sent the dresses off to be made. I was given a date for when the dresses should be ready so when I hadn't received a call a few days after, I started calling the store. I was told that occasionally they could take up to a week longer, so I gave them the extra time. Still no call so I called back. They still hadn't arrived. I was getting agitated at this point, just stress I didn't need. I asked for someone to look into how much longer and call me back. Three hours later I had not received a call back so I called again and asked to speak with a manager. She went to check and said they had arrived a week ago, they were still packed in with the last shipment that arrived and I could come and get them. Of course when I arrived, this manager was nowhere to be found and the ladies were flustered at the idea of having to dig through boxes of dresses to find my four. I did eventually get them & they were correct. I then enquired if my jacket was in, they had no record of it even being ordered. I gave them my receipt and asked how this happened. They were just as surprised as I was. The receipt printed was for the jacket I ordered but that order was nowhere in the system. They said that was impossible that the jacket was rang in (and receipt printed) but wasn't showing in the system as being purchased. Now I want to know what happened to my money since my jacket isn't even ordered. It turned out that when I went to pay the balance of the bridesmaid dress that I had put a deposit on, they took the money from my jacket to cover the balance (which didn't have to be paid till the dresses were picked up). They quickly tried to make amends and rush order a jacket for me. I decided to cut my losses. The dresses were correct, the service has been a mess, I do not want to step foot in this store again so I do not need a jacket this bad. After this experience, I will not recommend this place to anyone shopping for dresses. Sure they have a big selection but the terrible service isn't worth the trouble. read more

My wife bought a beautiful dress here that was too expensive. The invoice said a certain price, but when she showed up to get it, it was now $200 more. She paid it and the manager said they would refund us the $200 in 2 weeks. It has been well over a month and they do not return calls, nor do they return emails or even talk about it in person. My shopping experience here was great! We went in to browse (with no appointment) and I walked away with the third dress I tried on! No pressure, got a great deal. I'm not pleased with the way the alterations were handled for my dress and communications. I paid for my purchase in May. The dress needed to be hemmed and the loops fixed at the corset. I probably called at least 7 or 8 times to the store to find out when my dress could be picked up with never a response. When I finally received a call on July 4th, it was to pay for the "completed" alterations. I made this payment within a day or so. I arrived in Edmonton on July 13th (my wedding was on the 19th) and hoped to pick up my dress then. I finally received a text message after 10 p.m. to inform me that my dress was going to be shipped to me when it was done. I was very unhappy with this! I flew from Inuvik, NWT to Whitehorse, YT, then to Vancouver, and on to Edmonton. I returned to Inuvik empty handed. I know how slow shipping to the north is, and I was VERY hesitant to leave without my wedding dress six days before my wedding. Now, I eagerly awaited my dress in Inuvik. It did not arrive until the day before my wedding (I was told by the airline that it was in a warehouse in Edmonton for a few days). My wedding was not IN Inuvik. So I had to drive 200 kms from the wedding venue to Inuvik and back just to pick up my dress. I was also informed that the shipping would be about $25. This was also not the case. I paid over $100 for the cargo fees. You can only imagine my distress when I finally got BACK from Inuvik and had time to inspect my dress at midnight before my wedding day to find that the repairs were not made to the loops. I had to find a seamstress on the Friday night before my wedding to fix an unwearable dress. This is not acceptable. Phone messages not returned. Dress not ready when requested. Alterations not done. Shipping problems. I emailed Ethos - but they didn't even feel my business is worth a response (obviously not many repeat customers in this sort of business, eh?) So this is my review: save yourself the hassle - shop else where. read more

Low quality, high price and terrible customer service. Spent over $1000 to have to jewelled belts put on my wedding dress. The jewels were so cheap. Coming loose and falling off even before the wedding. In dealing with the seamstress she was rude to say the least and made no attempt to fix the jewels or the lose sequins on my dress like the sales clerk assured me she would. I then displayed my dress away from sunlight and the jewels began rusting and falling off. It took over a week after 1 email and 5 phone calls before the manager would even call me back just for her to say there was nothing they could do. I gave her as much info as I could but said I'll know when I see it naturally and don't want to settle for something I'm not in love with. You only get married once after all! I've been reading the reviews and I feel that some people are impossible to please. Yes Ethos has a large assortment of dresses and it is a smaller place but how is that a problem? I'm glad I was in an intimate location with a huge assortment of dresses to choose from. Jane was helping me and I was probably a more difficult shopper as I had no clue what I wanted. Jane was wonderful, has a great sense of humour and ended up helping me find my dream dress. People were complaining that it's busy?! What do you ladies expect when you book on a weekend? Yes it will be busy. I went on a Friday and I had an amazing experience. Also I returned again hours after we left to try on my dress again and the girls were more than accommodating. Then I bought my dress. I went to many bridal boutiques that week and Ethos had the dress for me. So calm down ladies. Relax and enjoy the moment of feeling like a princess!! Stop being bridezillas!! The world does not revolve around you and the fact that your getting married. So I recommend Ethos for these reasons: - large assortment of dresses - intimate location - great customer service If I could change one thing about my experience is that I wish it lasted longer because I had a fun time with my bridesmaids and my mother. read more

I wouldn't recommend this bridal shop to anyone. My daughter found her dream wedding dress there. We were assured that they had a file on her with all her contact information, wedding date, etc. along with the dress style number and ordering information. We were assured that the dress could be ordered anytime over the next year. We went in to order the dress and were told her file had been lost. We got three or four different explanations - files were in the basement, files are destroyed after 3 months, files are destroyed after 6 months. They said there was no way to track the dress even though we had pictures and it ended with the manager having a "whatever" attitude, saying there was nothing she could do. Very disappointing, confusing, and frustrating. We have heard similar stories from others since this happened to us. read more

I had the worst experience at Ethos; and they have the worst customer service of any store I have ever shopped. I booked an appointment and brought my bridesmaids and mom to look at dresses. My "consultant" was horrible - she talked non-stop, was quite rude at times, put my dresses on so tight that I couldn't breath (even after I asked her not to), and even had the nerve to say, "I don't even have to lie to you." She told me that she needed to feed her kids (referring the commission) and then in the next breath told me she didn't make any commission (who talks about commission while in the middle of trying on wedding dresses). She kept trying to make me make a decision when I wasn't ready. I left and immediately tried to find the dress I liked somewhere else, but was having trouble. So I called the store and asked to have another consultant and the manager assured me she would work with me. I showed up to my next appointment and guess who was there to greet me at the door - yep, the horrible consultant was waiting for me. i couldn't believe the manager did that. I tried the dress on to get my size and ordered it from another store and I will never ever go back there. read more

I had originally fallen in love with a wedding gown I found online by a designer that wasn't carried in many shops. I had planned a trip to Edmonton (5 hour drive) to specially go into this shop to try on this dress and made a call 2 weeks prior to set up an appointment just to make sure that someone would have time to spend with me as I don't have any family in the province! The lady that 'assisted' me left me to look on my own after I tried telling her I wanted to look at the dress I had phoned about. I started to look around anyway and began to to get really discouraged.. No one came over to help and the staff was not nice. This was a nightmare of an experience. We have had an absolutely awful experience with Ethos. We placed an order for 3 bridesmaids dresses on Feb 5/2011. I called them on Feb 11/2011 to confirm that the order had been placed, because it had been so chaotic in the store the day we were there to place our order. She put me on hold, and confirmed that yes, the dresses had been ordered, and they would be in to pick up in 10-12 weeks (mid to late April). By mid May we had not heard from them. On May 14th, I began calling them every day to request a shipment date. They repeatedly told me that they had to check with their warehouse and they would call me back. Every day, this never happened. I started calling (I live out of town) every 3 hours, and still nothing. I refused to be put on hold. I finally got in contact with one salesperson who was willing to do some digging. 4 days later, she let us know that 1 of the 3 dresses was sitting in the warehouse waiting to be picked up. The other 2? Never ordered. 4 weeks from the wedding at this point, and it is too late to rush order anything, from anywhere. Guess we'll be hoping that a department store has a decent dress for us to wear that will go with the 1 that came in. They refunded us our deposits, and offered no other options. I would not set foot in an Ethos Bridal Store if my life depended on it. Their communication is nearly non-existent, and they simply are not reliable. When asked how this could have happened, they had no response. It is clear to me that they have no checks & balances built into their procedures. Why was our order never flagged as unfulfilled? Why did a salesperson tell me that the dresses had been ordered when they had not? Why did it take them 15 days to return numerous phone calls? Why will there be no compensation? Why, if this is how they run their business, are they still IN business? read more

I do not recommend that anyone go to Ethos for their wedding dress. I went in there with the intention of purchasing a dress quickly as we have an international move coming up. Although there isn't a lot of time to plan, I still had 4.5 months to have a dress on order. I found a lovely Sopie Tolli dress in Ethos but it was about 1 inch too short. The rep kept pushing me to buy the floor model. I told her it was too short and asked her: 1. How much the gown cost 2. If it could be lengthened 3. If they could rush order one for me After 15 minutes of trying to get responses to these questions and being ignored, I decided to leave. I went the next day to the new Parisian store in Dalhousie, found the exact same dress. Parisian was on the phone to their Sopie Tolli contact immediately and were able to get me the dress, lengthened and without any rush order fees. I purchased the dress on the spot. Prior to going into Ethos I had read many negative reviews online but decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. No question, they have poor customer service, terrible business sense and aren't even able to jump on a sales opportunity when it is put right in front of them! All they needed to do was call the manufacturer! And the worst part is that the "consultant" kept pushing me to buy the floor model.......it was so short you could see my bare feet sticking out from under the dress. read more

Quick overview: -Unprofessional -Unorganized -Pushy and uncaring about the individual For those of you who want a little more information, suffice it to say that I really, really wish that I hadn't bought my dress there. My consultant was a young woman that was apparently new to the salon, and she was awesome - very customer-oriented and she listened to me very well. Unfortunately, she had three managers following her (and me) around at all times and they were INCREDIBLY pushy! They were literally talking at me non-stop, trying to convince me to buy every dress I tried on, even when they either obviously looked terrible on me or when I directly stated it wasn't what I was looking for. Overall, I felt incredibly pressured and actually left the store in tears because I was so confused. I ended up going back and purchasing a dress that I loved. I was unsure about it at first because of the pushiness of the sales people, but after I calmed down I realized that I didn't want to walk away from it. I decided to buy the dress at Ethos because the young sales consultant really deserved my commission, even if the managers didn't. Now I really regret buying the dress at Ethos. I was originally told that my dress would be in early April 2012. I decided around January that I wanted to call and confirm this because it would influence some other life decisions, and it seemed pretty early for it to come in. I literally could not get a hold of them. For a month I called every other day and the phone would ring and ring and ring. Eventually I got a hold of a call service that was apparently hired by Ethos to take their calls. They were no help - they were only there to take my message. I left a message three times in two weeks without avail. FINALLY, I decided to go in to the store and find out. They confirmed that the dress would be in around the beginning of April. I was obviously frustrated by this point, already. In late April I called again about my dress. I was told that "when we say April, it could actually mean the first week in May." In May I called and they said that "Well you bought it in December and that's the holidays, so they don't do anything around then, then it's Chinese New Years and you know they don't do anything then either, so you know, it's really not late." Thanks - I love knowing that my supposedly designer gown is made in a Chinese factory, or at the very least by people that are not capable of making a deadline. Also, this is just ridiculous - they should give their customers an accurate arrival date that considers delays like holidays if need be. It's now June 1st, and I just called them again. Of course, I got no answer. I have still not gotten my dress but when I finally do, I'm getting it altered somewhere else - I just don't trust their professionalism (or lack thereof!) I would not recommend this store. Bad, bad service. And actual lies. We made and appointment to choose my wedding dress, but when we showed up the place was over booked and insanely crowded. We did end up trying on a few, and found the one - I was tempted to leave because of the crowds and the bad service, but my mom loved the dress and I did too...so we told the ladies we wanted to get it. It was a pretty good size off the rack but would need just a few alterations. We moved from the original fitting room I was in to a smaller fitting room and the seamstress was brought in to measure me. At that point I pointed out a small mark near the top of the dress, a few centimeters long, looked like a pencil mark. Would have been imperceptible on anything but a white wedding dress. I expressed my concerns, and the lady who was measuring me for alterations said she'd be able to clean that off when she took the dress in. In fact, she promised. So at that point I told my mom that I would take the dress. My mom forked over her hard earned money, and we were then advised that I would have to go to the seamstresses' house for my fitting instead of coming back to Ethos. I thought that was weird, because I always imagined my wedding dress would be altered in the store, not some house - but against my judgement I went with it. Flash forward a couple weeks later and my fiance and I are driving to some house way out in Strathcona at 8:00 at night for my fitting. We get there, and a man answers the door. We ask for the lady and say we're there for a fitting. He explains his mom is busy with another fitting down in the basement and asks us to come back in half an hour. So we do, and when we come back she's still busy with another fitting, so we are invited in to watch TV. It was super uncomfortable. Eventually I get to try on my dress, and in the dark basement where I can see that it fits, but I can't see if that pencil mark was still there. I felt very rushed, because we'd been watching TV in this lady's basement for half an hour before I even tried my dress on. I gave her a $120 for the alterations and we left. Long story short, when we tried the dress on at home the mark was very visible. We're trying to get the dress professionally cleaned so we can get that pencil mark out before the wedding day. Who knows if it's possible. We might have spent a hell of a lot of money on a wrecked dress. read more

Ethos really, REALLY needs to work on their customer service! From the moment I walked in the door I was almost invisible to them. I purchased my dress from Ethos in July, and in January I still had not heard from them. I called to see where my dress was 6 times and no one ever returned my calls. Finally, when someone did take the time to look into my dress I heard what every bride does not want to hear...."WE CANT FIND YOUR DRESS". 3 days pasted until my dress was finally located. But again, I went in for alterations and it took them over an hour to find my dress. Ethos has an OK selection of dresses, but if you decided to purchase your dress from them, be prepared to be disappointed with their service. I came in with my bridal party last Saturday to look for a wedding dress. There were many selections to choose from. Grace my consultant let us choose 4 and she would choose another 3. I like the fact that we were allowed to rome around freely throughout the store to look for dresses. This review is based by appointment, not walk in. read more

Went for a friend specifically to see their selection of retro wedding gowns. We were not disappointed! Fantastic selection of Gunny Sax gowns. But since I am also looking for a MOG dress, and the service that we were receiving was friendly and helpful, I asked about a dress for myself. Jane, who was helping us showed me a stunning Frascare gown that was exactly what I was looking for but in the wrong colour. And then Jamey jumped in, calling the designer to see if the gown could be found in the colour I wanted. All in all a lovely experience, and I now have a frontrunner gown on my list for my search. Highly recommend this Salon. Loved the owner, she was warm and conversational with my cousin as I shopped. Just left with a great feeling from the staff, even though I had not ended up with one of their gowns. read more

Besides all the normal stuff to review, I just wanted to say when I went looking for my wedding dress the biggest reason I had a good experience was because of the ladies. Not only did my consultant let me take some time to breastfeed my baby, but when I was trying on "the one" they all made me feel absolutely beautiful. No establishment is with out flaw, but keep in mind people don't usually take time to write good reviews, just bad ones! read more

I purchased a wedding gown directly from a designer (Needle &Thread) that I love, but didn't work out for my body type and wasn't returnable. (You live, you learn.) I decided it was back to the drawing board wedding dress wise, and I booked an appt at Ethos. I met with Laurie, who was lovely. She was helpful from the get go, and even though they didn't have much in stock for the long sleeve look I was going for, she still provided me with some ideas. I didn't find a new dress that day, but I still was able to try on some styles and appreciated Laurie's time and advice. After showing her photos of the dress I had originally purchased from Needle & Thread, Laurie really encouraged me to book an appt for Saturday with one of their seamstresses and talk about possible alteration options for a better fit. I made the appointment to come back in. This is where everything went south. I arrived for my appointment on Saturday, Laurie wasn't there, which was okay- I was there to meet with the seamstress anyway. When I checked in the lady at the front desk had no idea who I was, and it was clear that they were not expecting me for an appointment, despite having booked one. The lady checking me in made me tell my story all over again. To which she said "Oh, so you are bringing in a dress that was not even purchased here?" With heavy tone. This really upset me because the alteration appointment had been their employee's idea, not mine, and had seemed helpful and approachable at the time. Upon arrival I was being treated as a nuisance? The woman "greeting" me then interrupted me to ask how much I had paid for my dress - I didn't understand how this was relevant as she was not even the seamstress who would be assisting me? I am only 25, was there by myself, and felt very talked down to by this woman. When I took my gown out of the garment bag she commented that it did not look like a wedding dress to her- clearly just blatantly being catty now- and at this point I honestly wanted to just walk out, but had cleared my afternoon to attend this appointment and was still needing feedback as to whether my gown had options. She put me in a small change room at the back (much different than my first appointment when I was a "potential customer") and told me that the seamstress would come over. The seamstress took 20 mins to come over- at this point it was 1:45 - when she saw me standing outside the change room she said "I'm coming, I'm coming!" - not, "Sorry for the confusion today" or "Thank you for waiting, I'll be right with you." At this point I was fed up and blatantly asked whether I should rebook, since clearly this afternoon was not good for them. I think the seamstress finally noticed how upset I was as her tone completely changed, and she was helpful with my dress. It was good to hear that I have options for alterations. Not that I will be giving Ethos Bridal a dime of that cost. These two experiences clearly show how potential customers for a gown purchase are treated at Ethos bridal. If they can make a sale off you, you are treated like gold. At my second appointment I was clearly condescended and disrespected. Thank you Ethos for taking what is supposed to be an exciting time in a young woman's life and making me feel insulted and stressed. The only reason I am giving 2 stars is because Laurie was helpful. Otherwise, good riddance. read more

The service here is horrible. Told us we could not look at the sample dresses without an appointment, then 5 minutes later took two other people in without one for no reason. Just one of the girls specifically, not sure about the others. Very rude. Will not return. read more

I went twice without appointment, so I can not complain about customer service. They tried the best to help me out, I thought. Although, I am concerned of the quality and type of business. They have a huge store, but they do not rent any of their dresses. You do have to order your wedding dress at least 5-6 months ahead ( but the same as other stores in Calgary). First time I went to look for my wedding dress, after 12 dresses the one I like it the most it had a good price and was good looking but any closer eye would ve seen the cheap quality of the beading and the skirt was to dull. So, it was the best I could find but not the enough good. Second time I went to look for a evening gown, honestly please do not go, it's a waste of time. There was not a dress I liked or fit in. So, big store, average selection, average to bad quality. read more

I would like to share my experience with this bridal center in order to warm future brides! Firstly my wedding was in a different city so I was hoping that whenever my dress arrives i will get a phone call...since I had only a month between when they told my dress is going to be there and my wedding date to do alteration if needed. Of course store never called me, and I needed to call them by my self, to find out that my dress was there for a past week and no one even bother to check it. Secondly my dress needed some small alteration with a strap....they still had 3 weeks to fix it. Person who was doing my alteration was Vicky, to all the ppl who need to have their alteration done please avoid her....she destroyed my wedding dress!!! When I was picking it up (this was 3rd time when I came there to try it!!!!) I didn't realize that entire dress is sticking out from my body! After trying it at home my mom realize that this dress doesn't fit my body at all..so she decided to go back to this place to ask for spare piece of fabric that have been cut out in the first place, to fix it so it would not sick out so much....Before we went there i gave them a call explaining the entire situation, and asking for those spare pieces of fabric.... When I arrived with my dress at this place store manager treated me and my mom without the respect, telling us that those parts of fabric will cost 25$ each.....at this point I couldn't even stay there any longer.....I paid 300$ to have my strap fixed, she destroyed it!!! Cut the entire strap out telling me that it couldn't be adjust adding a piece of string instead...I wasn't there to ask for any extra parts I just wanted the original strap back that has been cut out. Of course she didn't return me my original strap....she gave me some pieces that didn't even mach... I have never been disrespected like that in my entire life!!!!! I would never recommend the place to anyone, and for sure will share my experience with everyone that I know! The worst service ever! read more
