Dr. Fred Ettner has been our family doctor for over 40 years! This guy is a consummate professional, a virtuoso of the family medical practice. Fred delivered both our children and he has always been there for us. He's one of those docs that actually calls you back 24/7. He knows if I'm calling at some un-godly hour that it has to be an emergency. I could write about all the good things Fred has done over the years but in this age of Twitter it would require too many characters. Dr. Ettner is great. He's very pro-breastfeeding and he seems really well-informed. I had a home water birth, and when I mentioned it he didn't bat an eye. We love that he's a family practice physician, so our whole family can see him whenever we need medical attention. Been going to Dr. Fred for 3.5 yrs for our daughter and we love him. We picked him because we had heard he was open to not doing vaccines and alternative approaches. He has proven himself to be that. I discussed vaccines at length with him. He did suggest 1 or 2 but when he saw we were not interested he stopped recommending those. He was never pushy, always supportive of our rationale but willing to give a different perspective. He's almost ALWAYS available after hours and picks up the phone. He's really good, based on his years of experience, in discerning when something is critical and when it is not. He always responds with alternative approaches before going to meds. We like that. Waits can be long or very short. He spends as much time as is needed with you and loves to share his years of experience. This means he can easily spend 30mins-1 hr with you. This means others wait which also means you wait sometimes when he's doing that for others. The way we look at it though is that all the good support will come back around when it is your turn and you need it. One of his receptionists is a bit gruff but nice when you get through that and actually talk with her. She can then be really friendly. read more

I agree with most reviewers: Dr Ettner listens, he actually invites you over to interview him before choosing him as your family doctor and he is very open about delayed vaccines which we chose to do. He is also very patient with first time parents that may call quite often when our kiddos are not doing well. He will ALWAYS suggest a conservative, natural solution first. If he feels you want things escalated he will support your concerns. The cons are exactly what you see in other reviews: wait times can be kind of long but not always, better to avoid afternoons. His staff is very efficient and I believe is a bit stretched thin and I assume thats why they are not strong on the people skills, one of them has a bit of a 'rough around the edges' style but IMHO its just her personality and if you take it with a grain of salt and are firm in your requests/questions you'll be fine. We don't like most doctors, but we LOVE Dr. Ettner. He's patient, thoughtful, and his approach is wonderful. We trust him and will refer all of our friends to him. I like that he gives us real, practical information and let us make decisions. I don't feel push into anything, or that he has anything but our best interests in mind. He doesn't push products or drugs - he has a great whole-person approach that we really love. Our daughter had a fever for a few days in a row, over a weekend and I took a chance and called the office number. Dr Ettner not only answered the phone, but gave us great advice that put things into perspective. He also asked us to call him back and let him know how things shook out, which we did. read more

I'm a first time mom and very happy with Dr. Ettner. He has an individual approach to my baby. He patiently answers all my questions, he explains everything in details. The other doctor I took my baby to told me to start elimination diet because they suspected that my baby boy had food allergies through my milk. I eliminated food containing soy and milk protein , which is almost everything. I was left with very little choices to eat and my milk started to dry out. When I came to Dr. Ettner he said to start eating like I usually would. He was right, symptoms that my baby had weren't allergic reaction to food. Thanks to him I don't have to suffer being on such strict diet. read more

We have been seeing Dr. Ettner for 15 years and our entire family has benefited so much! He is the most dedicated and empathetic doctor I've ever encountered and I've been a medical advocate for many people in my life. When your turn comes, he is completely there with you and gives you all of his attention, and he is so in the moment that you don't feel like anything else is on his mind except the matter at hand. I think Dr. Ettner is brilliant and kind-hearted and extremely caring--a rare combination! In his approach to the practice of medicine, he draws from a broad pallette and has a delightful way of teaching children the importance of eating their vegetables. And he sets the very example that he urges on his patients as he is very fit and every time I've run into him outside of his office has been in the produce aisle at the grocery store! And even beyond all that, over these past 15 years he has been so responsive every time we've had a serious health concern that I am eternally grateful to him. I feel so lucky that he is in such great health and continues to practice medicine even as it has become increasingly difficult for family practitioners. read more

Dr. Ettner deserves 5 stars, but the receptionist ( his daughter) gets the 1 star. In general she is curt and rude with everyone who calls or comes into the office. It's embarrassing how much she lacks in customer service, especially since she is your first experience when calling or coming in to the office. Even when leaving the office I have seen her ignore and not respond to people saying "thank you" and "goodbye." I get that she is Dr.Ettner's daughter, but there is no reason or excuse for her poor and disrespectful behavior. I hope Dr. Ettner will read this review and do something about his daughter/receptionist. read more

I am 31 years old now and I have known Fred for my entire life, literally. He delivered me when I was born and has taken care of everyone in my family with the utmost care and love. He is one of the few doctors out there that really cares about each and every one of his patients. He has always been there for me. I really can't say enough good things about Fred. For starters Dr. Ettner is hands down the best doctor out there, I could write a novel on how great he is but I think everyone already knows that. What I will say is that I was shocked to see poor reviews on his staff. His staff is some of the hardest working and friendly people i've come encounter with. His office manager and his daughter go above and beyond for the patients and always make things happen regardless of the circumstances, whether its a last minute appointment, squeezing us in or getting paper work expedited so on and so forth. I think people need to realize they are not the only patients in the practice and to show some respect. I do think Dr. Ettner is fantastic. He is caring, patient and thorough. He is also very knowledgeable even beyond the typical medical model. However, the office staff is so poor, I'm not sure if I can go back. They refuse to even look in charts for lab results and act as though basic requests are an enormous inconvenience. It's really disappointing to be treated so very poorly by office staff. read more

We have been going to Dr. Ettner for 4+ years. We are so pleased with him that we would never consider going elsewhere. He truly shows an interest and cares for his patients. Dr. Ettner is really good. My two sons go to him (ages 3 years old and 6 months). He is experienced, caring, relaxed, and spot-on with diagnosis. He returns calls promptly, listens, and explains illness in a way that is easy to understand. I can only give three stars because the woman that works in the office (Sara) is a nightmare. She is rude, snappy, condescending, and unhelpful. Just dealing with her over the phone has sometimes stopped me from calling. I learned to have a thick skin with her because I don't feel like switching doctors. I'm not sure why such a kind intelligent person would make this person the face of their business. Oh, I also wish he had a website. Their practice is a litte date technology-wise. read more

Dr. Ettner is my 3 year old daughter's doctor, my doctor, and my husband's doctor. (Incidentally, he also delivered 3 of my husband's siblings, and I believe is my mother-in-law and father-in-law's doctor as well!) He has an incredibly wonderful bedside manner and is extremely easy to talk to. He is very thorough, and will spend time really talking to you, answering all questions, explaining everything without a hint of condescension, and making sure that you feel listened to and taken care of. I have always been the type to slack off going to the doctor for yearly physicals or when sick, but I'm now in my mid-30's and decided to be an adult already and have some actual medical accountability with my health, and Dr. Fred is a doctor that I know that I will feel encouraged to keep up with. I already knew that I would like him for my own care based on his interactions with my extended family and most importantly, my daughter, and I wasn't disappointed. Every time I have been there for myself or my daughter there has been a medical assistant working with him and I have always been impressed with them as well. I have heard that sometimes you might have to wait a long time in the reception area even when you have a scheduled appointment, but I have always made morning appointments and haven't waited more than 15-20 minutes tops. He does book up fast, but will take walk-ins if you are ill. read more
