My family has been using Earthworks landscaping for over 15 years. Whether you need a little…read moreassistance with mulching, planting or irrigation; or help with a larger project, like building a retaining wall out of stone, or providing a total makeover to your yard and landscape, the crew at Earthworks can't be beat. The husband-wife owner team have been doing great business for many years in the Eugene area, and have gained some fiercely loyal and long term customers. Joe, one of the owners, is so knowledgeable about plants and I have benefited greatly from his advice when planning my yard and landscape with hedges, year round ground covers and low maintenance shrubbery. Their stonework is really high quality and well constructed. I appreciate the company's sense of environmentalism; using sustainable methods, native plants, and no toxic chemicals. The crews and service provided aren't cheap but the quality of the work is top notch. Before you commence in planning a huge outdoor revamp, or perhaps you know what you want and just need help with the execution of your visions, Earthworks is great to work with. They are very efficient, hard working, and respectful when working around existing plants or gardens. Friendly and professional and brimming with energy, I HIGHLY recommend Earthworks for all your landscape needs!!

He and Cathy did a wonderful little design in our back yard last summer. Our back yard is south facing so the plants needed to be tolerant of quite a bit of heat during the summer months. There's no way I would've known what species of plant would do well or not. Only a couple of plants failed and they've even promised to replace them this Spring! If you're looking for folks who listen their customer and know their stuff, I couldn't recommend Joe and Cathy more!

BE CAREFUL AT THE START!…read more After an initial phone call Jamie suggested I hire him just for an initial consulting visit instead of the free estimate appointment. He came out, walked the yard for 20 minutes, took no measurements or pictures and requested the $150 fee before departing. He said he would be providing feedback via email in a few days so I paid the fee. The email he sent 2 weeks later (after much prodding) was simply an estimate of the cost to hire him to design and perform the work. The email had zero ideas listed nor any information on a plan for us to consider. As it turns out, he disguised a free appointment fee as a consulting fee. Our assumption is that he A. Never took the time to consider ideas during the 2 weeks we waited and B. assumed we were just moving forward with him so the initial consult was unnecessary. When challenged on it he simply said he doesn't give refunds nor could he justify the fee with evidence that any consulting took place.

I was so excited when I found this business online... it appears they can do it all…read more I suggested them to my 80 year old Mom who has a tiny backyard and was looking to have a small patio cover built along with a paver patio and possibly some landscaping ideas. Again, her backyard is very small @ 20 x 40'. LandArc charged $125 for an initial visit. I do see another review here on Yelp where they refer to a free estimate... So after meeting with the guy, my Mom was told that he would get her an estimate in about a week. She was looking forward to seeing some plan ideas as well as getting a cost estimate for work and materials. But when she got the "estimate", it was actually an estimate FOR a final estimate. It was a detailed write up of all the trips to her house he was going to need to make and all the planning he would need to do in order to CREATE the plans and estimate... and that alone was estimated at $5,000!!!!! That's right, this DID NOT include ANY of the cost for materials or work... the $5,000 was ONLY to work up the plan and the estimate for the project. Apparently the $125 was simply for him to stop by the house the first time. We were all stunned, and obviously will not be EVER using LandArc, as she can easily get a lot of what she was looking for from the $5,000 they needed just to come up with a plan. I'm not sure if he was trying to take advantage of the situation or if he didn't want this "small" job (so created a ridiculous proposal). If it was the latter, he should've determined this over the phone via yard size. Really REALLY lame!!!!!
