The boy and I had a brief stop in Eugene on our way to Portland, and our host insisted that we should check out the market. I am so glad that we did. The berries were fresh, delicious and so sweet. I have never had berries like those in Los Angeles. I've never tried marionberry or boysenberry before. The boy and I devoured them as if they were candies. We bought so many goodies from the market that we could not wait to start eating right away. We love the mushroom guy and wished we could have taken home the mushrooms. We wish there was one just like him in our favorite farmer's market in LA. I would love to come back just to eat the french pastries. read more

Got Hippies? Man, there were a ton of people here, even in the rain. My wife is the big shopper in the house and she thinks this is the best produce market she has ever seen. Unbelievable quality and selection. Some very funky art and jewelry booths with your prototypical hippies with beards, dreadlocks, tie died clothes, gatzby hats and the works. Super cool atmosphere with kids and grandparents (all the grandparents were stoned...just kidding). Their food stalls were awesome, as well. Long lines for the tamales, fabulous Indian food (try the combination...its huge and delicious) and every booth had vegan and vegetarian options (happy daughter). read more

Farmers Market, Art Show, Festival Dining, Live Music and more. This was overwhelming. 3 blocks worth of vendors, food, veggies, music all there for my enjoyment. From hand dyed tie dies, to hand thrown pottery, pizza, indian food and mexican food, fresh berries, handmade chocolates, and local beer. This is a great place to go as a tourist, to take a tourist or to play tourist. Since they are all individual vendors the market changes from week to week, meaning that the experience is a little different each time. read more

I treat the Saturday Market a little like a relative in a nursing home. I don't go visit every week (alright, not even every year) but I do check in on it occasionally and would miss it if it were gone. Nostalgic for some and obnoxious to others it is probably the only truly successful thing left downtown. A lot of the booths are relics left over from the last hippie ice age circa 1970-something but there are some newcomers too. Saturday Market must be doing something right because it is always packed and everybody knows about it. The people watching is great and the booths usually have something to catch the eye. Saturday Market is one of those weekly events that makes Eugene, Eugene. The vibrant people, laughing children, exciting art, delicious food and fun performances that go on at this market make you want to keep coming back every Saturday. If you're a local then this is a great spot to do some of your weekly shopping since there is a farmers market across the street at the same time. If you are just cruisin' through town and want a real Lane County community experience then I highly recommend checking it out. There are food trucks, art and handmade craft vendors, music and dancing. You can usually find street parking surrounding the event and walk right in. It can be pretty crowded but not too bad. Dogs are not allowed which helps keep the traffic down a bit. There is pretty much something there for everyone and a wonderful place to buy gifts! read more

I believe the best pad thai and burritos are at Market, not at any resteraunt. Wonderful farmer's market, where you get organic, local fares. I really loved the Saturday Market in Eugene. There's a wide variety of crafts for sale, an excellent farmer's market and some very good food stalls to boot. One can easily spend a couple hours weaving through the various booths selling quality pottery, screen-printed shirts, woven goods, art, etc. My friend and I each got crepes from one of the food stands, which were very good and the whole vibe was very genial and easygoing. read more

For all the accolades and reputation that precedes it, the Saturday Market is underwhelming. Not in the lack of selections but quality. The committee should "vett" the crafters a bit more to offer unique items that are of good quality. Do a walk around some time and notice vendors who have no crowd. Rotate them out. It doesn't have to be permanent but try to recruit new vendors into that space on a trial basis. Found much of the items "junky." Similarly with the food/lunch booths. There's variety but not really. Fresh food selection is stellar though. read more

The Eugene Saturday Market is huge and crowded. They have free high rise type parking, but we weren't sure if our truck would meet the 7 foot limit. So we opted to pay for parking at around $1. an hour. It was worth it. Some booths were difficult to get to because they were so popular and people were crowding the table and waiting in line. We had a boiling hot cup of delicious, strong, but smooth coffee. This was a very popular vendor. They line up all these coffee filters, put a huge scoop of fresh ground coffee in each filter and pour boiling water onto the coffee grinds. Let the water naturally seep through into the cup. I always thought that method was because you couldn't afford a coffee maker. So many vegetables, so little refrigerator space! We picked up tri-colored string beans, kale, lettuce, mixed greens, golden raspberries, goat cheese, a roast, and pastries. There was so much to see, taste, and buy. The Blazing Chef vendor has delicious fresh cut french fries. I bought an itty bitty basket made out of pine needles and walnuts from OR Pine Needle Baskets. At New Day Bakery stand we picked up some delicious pastries, Carrot cake sandwich cookies are yum! Cousin Jack's Pasty Co. has wonderful flaky pasties. Lamb, steak, leek, broccoli, etc. all enclosed in a wonderful flaky crust.. Great produce, great food, great crafts. read more

The produce section is great. Around the sides are vendors selling awesome pastries and awesome Mexican food, meat pies, etc. The organic produce is +++. The mushroom guy always has whatever is available, and also sells plugs (to grow your own). The flower bouquets cannot be beat and are much less expensive and more beautiful than what is for sale in stores. The foodcart section has good eats and live music. It is a big party. If you are into hippies, and or if you heart tie-dye, well my friend you have found heaven! Avoid the corner next to city hall, if at all possible. This seems to be the area allocated to 'free speech'. Between the street people, the overly tattooed, the loud/proud, and the religious zealots, you'll be left alone and have a nicer experience on the other side of the street. All in, this is one of the highlights of Eugene. read more

I take out-of-town friends here when they come to visit, because really, if you haven't been to Saturday Market, you haven't been to Eugene. The food selection is kind of limited, so I prefer the fresh pastries side. The last time I went I got the berry smoothie from Lulu's and it was oh so delicious. Eugene market is a good size, not too big and not too small, and plenty of strange "quirky" people. I have never actually bought anything from the vendors (maybe once) so I mainly go to just walk around and eat the food. It is definitely less overwhelming than the Portland Saturday market. It's definitely something fun to do on a Saturday if it's not raining. read more

Other cities tout their farmers markets as the perfect weekend activity. I do enjoy them. Eugene can claim the best market experience though. However, it's fun to have the music playing while you're walking around and they have awesome food. This market is really big. You can find pretty much anything you want here. However, I do think when markets get this big, they can be overwhelming. Especially when the booths are crammed together too tightly. This causes me to hurry through to avoid being stuck in the narrow walkways between booths. There was a didgeridoo player and other performers, as well as many art & craft vendors. I had a tasty iced chai, but it was served to me with less than enthusiastic attention. Oh well, one can't ask for too much from a temporary stand. Overall, this is a worthwhile way to spend an afternoon in Eugene. read more

The market is filled with a variety of vendors; you can find anything from palm reading to custom made jewelry. The vendors in the produce section actually put time into arranging their goods in an attractive display. The best food in town, period. The food stands are only here on Saturdays, but boy is it worth it. Their is a Thai food stand that serves AMAZING pad thai, with the worlds best peanut sauce, but the line is so long, my goodness. They also have amazing global cuisines, everything from Afghani to Mexican to Asian to the Tofu Palace. Yes, really!! They also have an amazing cheesecake stand. I only come here for the food, because it is fresh, all local, and incredibly delicous. read more

Eugene Saturday Market is great. It's the perfect place to take visitors because it shows them a slice of Eugene. Creative, unique, odd, and delicious. We just visited again this weekend with my mom who loves to go whenever she is in town.
