I previously left a 5-star review after my initial visit because I was impressed with the provider…read moreand felt optimistic about my treatment plan. Unfortunately, my experience after becoming an established patient has led me to change that rating. On June 30, I was prescribed clindamycin gel, tretinoin, and spironolactone for hormonal acne. After about a month of treatment, I began developing a significant breakout along my jawline, neck, and chest. The flare-up continued to worsen over the following weeks and became concerning because it was unlike anything I had previously experienced. On July 31, I called the office to explain my concerns and ask if the medications were simply not working yet or if I might be having a reaction. I was told someone would contact me, but no one ever did. After waiting nearly a week without a response while my condition continued to worsen, I called again on August 6 and asked to speak with a nurse or provider. The only response I received was a portal message advising me to use the clindamycin gel up to twice daily and to continue waiting for the spironolactone to take effect. As my symptoms became increasingly severe, I called again on August 6 and multiple times on August 7. I explained that the breakout was spreading, becoming itchy, and that I was concerned the gel itself might be making things worse. Each time, I was told someone would get back to me. No one did. I also asked whether I could come in to be evaluated and was told there were no appointments available. Ultimately, I became concerned enough that I started reaching out to other dermatologists and even considered going to urgent care. Thankfully, another dermatologist was able to fit me into their schedule on short notice. After being evaluated, I learned that I had an infection that required a month of antibiotics, prescription creams, medicated washes, and blood work. What frustrates me most is not that I experienced a complication. Sometimes treatments don't work as expected, and unexpected issues can happen. My disappointment comes from the lack of communication and follow-up despite multiple calls over the course of a week while my condition was actively worsening. The only guidance I received was essentially to continue using more of the medication, without anyone taking the time to speak with me and fully understand what was happening. As of today, I still have not received any additional follow-up regarding the concerns I reported. Patients deserve timely communication when a condition is rapidly worsening, and unfortunately that was not my experience with this office. I would have much preferred someone simply speak with me, assess the situation, and determine whether I needed to be seen. The lack of response ultimately forced me to seek care elsewhere, where it was quickly determined that I had an infection requiring treatment. That experience has significantly changed my view of this practice and is the reason I can no longer recommend the Crystal Lake location.

Complete Family Wellness has changed my life! After seeing 9 doctors and specialists within 12…read moremonths, I was ready to give up on the idea that there were any medical professionals left who would care to help me, let alone just listen to me before making medical decisions. Prior to my first appointment, I made the decision that Complete Family Wellness would be my last attempt at finding a medical professional to help me. The owner, and my provider Helen Muchow FNP-BC, FPA, APRN, MSN, changed my quality of life from 5% to 80% in my FIRST visit. We are currently working on the other 20% (mostly due to medical insurance roadblocks). Helen was not only professional, but actually LISTENED to every word I was saying, then took that information and developed a care plan WITH me, instead of just telling me what to do and sending me on my way with a prescription. I've been seeing Helen for over a year now, and her quality of care has not changed, even as she has taken over her staff's caseload as she is on maternity leave. I was a medical provider myself, so I understand the back-end (billing, insurance, etc). She does not rush through my appointment, like every other doctor/specialist I've seen, just to be able to see more patients in a day= more $$= $$ above "doing no harm." Most insurance companies will pay a higher rate for the first 15 minutes of an appointment, and a lower rate is paid for any time over 15 minutes. Helen takes the time to get her job done- above and beyond! Complete Family Wellness also has an on-site lab, so most standard blood work, and other labs can be done right away, during your appointment. Did I mention? Complete Family Wellness also has MOBILE services! They will come to you, in the comfort of your own home. Additionally, Helen is a veteran and accepts military insurance (Tricare West), which many providers do not accept due to Tricare's very low rates- yet another way she demonstrates how dedicated she is in helping people, and not treating us like cogs. On top of all this, Complete Family Wellness's staff are professional, very prompt in responding to any problems that come up between appointments, and make you feel like you matter!

Office manager Anne W. is a piece of work. She lied to and about me, called police to my house…read more(huh???) and blocked me on the patient portal for many hours. Even my insurance company says they've never dealt with anyone like her. Sadly, I fear my FPN Jamie Basten also did not have my wellbeing in mind judging from her unresponsiveness to my medication needs. Helen is a no go, too. I would strongly urge you to look elsewhere for a committed provider.
