I made an online reservation on Europcar.com this morning two hours before the intended pickup time. The website offered three smaller cars available: a Fiat, a Lancia (I think), and a Peugeot. I prepaid for the Peugeot with my AMEX. When we arrived, the guy said "sorry, no cars available." He then said "however, I do have a larger car for more money." Bait and switch. Hard for me to believe that he went from having plenty of small cars and two hours later, nothing, given that it is off-season. We just took the train instead. For us, we thought we'd try driving in Italy for a day but for those who are planning a vacation and need a car, I'd be leery of this place. Keep in mind that there are few car rental agencies in the area so it would be best to get a car in a larger town, such as Genoa. read more
