Y'aaaaaall. Holy moly. OK, so my boyfriend and I were super-duper green first time homebuyers. We realized how much we'd spent in rent over the course of ten years and after the shock subsided, we decided it made NO sense to renew our lease, which was ending in three months. (I know. As it turned out three months wasn't a lot of time to buy a house. Who knew?) We started obsessively looking for homes on HAR with little thought about finding a realtor. (Mistake #1) And, we applied for a home loan through our big ol' bank, CHASE. (Mistake #2) So of course we found a gorgeous home in our budget and started relentlessly hounding the listing agent. Zero. No response. This happened multiple times. When we did get a response from the listing agent, the first question was almost always were we working with a realtor. So, we figured, OK, we might need to google this 'realtor' and figure out what's going on. Boy were we right. I went to YELP to find someone who had successfully worked with first time homebuyers, and man, am I glad I did. Evan's reviews were so flattering, they were almost comical. Duh. Of course I emailed him. We heard back from him the very next day and from then on he was our champion. He was not afraid of our utter ignorance, was patient and calm, and most importantly- incredibly responsive. When we did find a house that we wanted to offer on, Evan was super quick to put together our bid. And when we were offered the 'back-up' position on the house, Evan encouraged us to take it...which we did. While we were initially really disappointed at being the back-up offer, it ultimately led to purchasing our home at under the asking price. Evan walked us through every step. He didn't just help us buy a house, he helped us get a better rate on a loan by suggesting a quick and helpful mortgage company (shout out to Heather Thomas and Lisa Billings at Fearon Financial! Thanks for hustling on our behalf.), helped us find affordable home insurance, put together a bid that helped us get our dream home for under the asking price, negotiated tirelessly, responded immediately to our panics. It was amazing to work with him. Without his help and advice, we would have given up on our dream of buying an historic home. I am writing this review on the back patio of my beautiful historic house that costs us (with taxes, insurance, and everything!) $50 a month less than we were paying in rent. So, thanks, Evan! Sincerely, you are the best and I encourage anyone undertaking the big scary of buying their first house in Houston to immediately contact you. Well, where can I start with Evan? He's a Godsend and made the home buying process painless. I had heard several horror stories from friends about their realtors and their horrible experiences with agents! We all know real estate agents get a bad rap and are known as door to door salesmen/women. So imagine what I was feeling when it was time to put my house on the market. At times, I was hesitant to even sell, just to avoid the hassle. My dad told me to avoid selling because of the hassles. Well, I got on trusty Yelp to find someone. Where do I begin? We are not new to home buying and selling experience. We have owned sold homes in the past and dealt with Realtors that until now seem sub-par compared to Evan. Evan is a top-notch agent that really, really puts his best foot forward and makes sure his clients are 100% about the choices made from selling price to buying price and home selection. We started our selling and buying journey in April of this year and closed on a home until September. We were not the easiest clients but Evan was always positive and professional. Evan Compean is hands down an amazing realtor. He was our third try at a realtor. After being unsatisfied with two realtors that were referred to us I found Evan through Yelp. I was a little nervous going with someone we didn't know from anyone, but after being very disappointed with the previous two realtors I decided to trust the reviews on Evan. Boy and I'm glad I did!!! I truly hope my review can do Evan justice because he was that great! Not only is Evan smart and knowledgeable but I never felt once he was in it for himself. He always made me feel like he was our number one advocate (which he was) and he cared we got the best deal possible. He truly wanted us to find the best house possible for the best deal available. I'm a first time home buyer so I was very cautious in picking a realtor. It's a relationship basically and both side has to get along & work well together. Evan can get along with any type of personality. He is very genuine & he REALLY is on your side from start to finish & not just trying to sell you any house. He wants you to be happy with your purchase & will advocate for you! I had problems with the seller/contractor (who was a real pain), evan was the one who took care of it all for me---going back & forth with emails with the seller. I would tell him my concerns & within hours he had already email the seller & came back with an answer for me. He's good at communicating with his clients professionally and answers emails/text promptly. I never had to wait for long periods of time for him to answer back. Since the contractors gave me problems, (totally different story & you can PM me about it) Me & my husband would have been stressed out with the buying process, however bc of evan, we couldn't have gotten through it without him. He has great knowledge of home construction and know what to look for structurally in a house. It took us a long time to find a home & not once did evan made us feel rushed or I was taking up too much of his time. My husband and I started house hunting in Houston from out of town in April of this year, and after being frustrated meeting with a couple of other realtors from big companies, went with Evan as our realtor. He was a big difference from the other realtors we had met--while other realtors would talk up anything and everything about a crappy property (no central A/C = saves electricity!!), the minute we walked into a house, Evan would start evaluating its foundation, roof, and HVAC system to see how much work we would need to do to fix it up. He responded to emails and phone calls very quickly, and very patiently took us to see probably close to 30 houses before we finally decided to make an offer on one. Once we found a house we liked, Evan was in his element. He was knowledgeable enough to know what the lowest price to offer was, while still being likely to get the house. Once our offer was accepted, Evan was again indispensable when it came to recommendations for inspectors and lenders.
