This is a very hard review for me to write because I'm so conflicted on this. I even put off writing the review for a year just to let things settle. Evan tried really, really hard to make things work, and I appreciate all his effort. But ultimately, the photos he produced were mostly failures. Our favorite photo we got from this event was actually not from his photography session but from our OWN SMARTPHONE when we were taking candid shots in his changing room on one of the consultation days. In fact, many of our smartphone photos look a lot better than any of the ones produced during the photography session. Breakdown: Effort: 5/5 Photography skills with relation to subject: 1/5 Photography skills with relation to scenery/background: 5/5 Makeup Artist: 2/5 Evan somehow made a 9/10 without makeup look like a 7/10 with makeup. He knew during the session that many of the photos would not turn out good, but he continued trying to push a failing strategy instead of adopting a new one to work with his subject. This was due to multiple factors (not all of which were his fault): - This was our first professional photography session, and I had little experience. I wrongfully assumed that because the photographer and makeup artist were professionals, they would know exactly what to do in every situation and how to pose. Thus, I failed to step in when things went wrong. - Evan wanted giant smiles in every photo. I can do giant smiles, but my wife looks best with smaller Mona Lisa smiles. When she does a giant smile, it looks so fake. We ended up redoing photos 10 times trying to get her to smile Evan's way. I still don't understand why he insisted on making it harder for all of us by forcing her to make giant smiles. This is the main cause that ruined the majority of the photos, and it tired out Evan, the makeup artist, and us. - The makeup on my wife was too heavy. She's pretty enough that she really doesn't need any makeup. Adding more just makes her look gaudy. We totally did not need an hour-long makeup session that just tired her out. - We were forced to get up too early. 5 am session will give you panda eyes and lethargy that's shows up very easily in photos. - One of the parks we were supposed to visit was closed on that day. While it's not his fault, he could've looked it up instead of having us show up fully-dressed in front of closed gates. On the positive side, he does spend a lot of time on each photo and on editing (though we thought most of the editing was unnatural, and I ended up un-filtering them). In the end, this $2700 photo book is just going to collect dust in some closet in our house. An A for effort but C for results. read more

Evan is a great guy! His personality is one that is hyper, fast, and totally a people-pleaser. He had my groomsmen (sometimes) begrudgingly take pictures they didn't want citing "Its for the bride! My husband and I got married at SF City hall on July 9, which was also my Bday. Evan was there, prompt and ready to shoot. We were actually running late and he was curteous and really sweet about having to wait for me to get dressed. He caught a lot of moments I didn't even know he saw. He made sure he took a photo 2 or 3 times if possible to make sure the picture was perfect.
