They run a day care but there is a learning curriculum also so your kids dont just play with blocks all day. You dont have to go everyday as long as you schedule in advance, like every M W F or something. They really are teachers not babysitters, they teach manners, social skills and some school stuff like letters and they read in a group to the kids. Great place to take your kids.

For $150/person we got over 2+ hours of instruction plus creating our ornament. Our experience began with learning about the basics of glass blowing. We watched him perform each skill and then we each got a chance to do it ourselves. Next, we picked out which Christmas ornament we would like to create. There is so much customization possible! He had great suggestions to help our visions come to life. Lastly, we created our ornaments one by one. We had to leave our ornaments in the kiln for about an hour, so Jason recommended Paddle Stick pub for us to grab lunch. When we came back, they were beautifully wrapped. It was a wonderful holiday activity, and we have handmade ornaments to treasure forever.

Hours: 6:45am to 5pm (actually it may be 5:30) Staff: Currently run by Crissy Floe and a fairly stable group of teachers. Ages: Starts at age 1 Overall this is a GREAT option for child care in Anacortes. They have a good toddler to teacher ratio and are always doing some sort of different enrichment activity. The other awesome thing is they provide meals, so no more making a ton of food to take in if you have had to do that in the past.. You do need to provide diapers, wipes, a blanket, and a change of clothes. Activities include taking walks, going to the library, playing outside, reading, etc etc etc. There are also at least monthly evening activities including a Parent's night where they will watch the children in the evening so the parents can go on a "date night" if they desire. Overall if you are looking for daycare this is THE PLACE to go in my opinion if your hours follow theirs. They do have part time options as well. The spots can be filled so get on the wait list before your child turns one if you want them to go here.

A couple of nice volunteers greeted us and told us about the gardens. They're maintained by "master gardeners" all volunteers. There are 20+ immaculate gardens of all types to enjoy. We wandered through the gardens and thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely a hidden gem in Mt Vernon.

Defensive Driving is a chain throughout the Skagit area, and it has some pros/cons…read more A positive is that the instructors are engaging, especially online, which is very helpful for a digital class. However, a con is that they often cut observed drives short, and ask the students if they want to end early. I wish they wouldn't ask a teenager if he/she wants to end early - because the teenager invariably wants to go home and do nothing. Defensive Driving needs to provide the hour of observation/instruction that I'm paying for. A pro is that the instructors provide good feedback and lend confidence to the learners. However, a HUGE con is that they never have drive times available afterschool or on the weekend. They only put one month up at a time on the schedule agent, so if you don't get any dates that month, you can't even go forward to the next month to schedule. I refuse to let my son to skip school to do observed drives. Perhaps they need to hire more trained observers. Another positive is how easy it is to take both the written and practical driving tests with Defensive Driving. It really is seemless. But, another negative is that the instructor has the students use his own personal car for the exam (maybe he gets a tax write-off), instead of the cars they have been practicing in and are used to. Unfortunately, there is odd rubber-band placed on the brake pedal, which really distracted my son who has sensory issues. He failed his first driving exam because the rubberband on the brake pedal was a huge distraction.

I stopped by and the owner/manager was so helpful, so positive, such a great guy. Works well with kids with learning disabilities he mentioned also. Who teaches my son how to drive legally is so important to me. My son (all kids) are my world and teaching styles can be so different. I immediately knew not only the first time but the second time I was able to talk to him that this hands-down was the place to go. It's worth the extra 40 or $50 trust me. And there flexible so many different options like weekend versus weekdays. Also currently still doing online classes also however I am choosing in person as it will fit my son better. and it's next-door to the YMCA in which he's always at. When it comes to your kids safety it's priceless not to mention the experience, even the memories that he will gain are important. I feel this will be more tailored to his needs but most of all MY BIGGEST PET PEVE is when adults/teachers don't treat kids with the same respect as they do parents for instance that they will be treated I'm sure with the same respect as the parents are. I would highly recommend this location in Stanwood. My daughter went through the high school drivers Ed 10 years ago they did a good job but usually it's teachers teaching at the HS and you don't know what one probably where is I know my son Maddox will be able to succeed and have a better learning experience under this facility and educator. Our family has participated in several Camp Fire programs around the Pacific Northwest, and we…read moreattended the Camp Kirby day camp in July 2025. While my daughter seemed to enjoy herself and spoke positively about the experience, the overall setup left me uneasy as a parent. Camp Kirby is located on a small island about 35 minutes from Bellingham. The setting is rustic and remote, and you have to drive very slowly down a long road to reach it. It's an unusual place, quiet and tucked away, but also far removed from anything else. The biggest issue for me was the lack of transparency and connection with the camp itself. Drop-off and pickup were tightly controlled: you wait in a long car line, staff approach your window, and then you're expected to drive off. There was no opportunity to meet the counselors, interact with other parents, or even glimpse the facilities. I asked nicely twice during the week if I could just see where my daughter was spending her day, and was told both times to email the director due to camper privacy. I understand wanting to protect kids, but other Camp Fire locations I've attended have found ways to balance privacy with openness. Here, I left every day with no idea what the camp looked like or what was going on inside. Communication was also minimal. Other camps send daily updates with photos and summaries. At Kirby we received one brief email and a photo album with a single blurry side photo of my daughter. I strongly recommend that Camp Kirby improve transparency by posting photos or videos of the grounds and facilities online. Even a virtual tour would go a long way toward helping parents understand where their kids will be all week. As it stands, I still have no idea what the space looks like. They offer one open house in the spring, but unless you live nearby, that's not realistic. The counselors seemed kind, though a little overwhelmed. And while my daughter's experience may have been positive, I genuinely don't know, because parents are kept completely at arm's length. I wouldn't recommend this camp unless you live nearby or already know someone with firsthand experience. They need to build more trust with parents and provide a clearer window into what's actually happening during the week.
