Hopefully you pay close attention to where your loved ones are laid to rest if you want to revisit them. There is no map provided on property or online, can not spot a worker anywhere, and the is no visible markers dividing sections. Ground's could be maintained better as well. Place is way too big and been around too long for this to be an issue. read more

My 1st experience with this place came last year when my friend passed and was laid to rest here. I have recently come back to visit her and found this place to be pretty huge ..a lot of acreage.. a lot of history. If you get time and look up the place online you can find the history of a lot of famous people that are here for their final resting place which to me is very interesting. I love history and I plan on coming back to just to take time to walk through and absorb what I see of our towns past and current residents. read more

We have only had a chance to explore a small section of this cemetery, but look forward to seeing the rest. In the beginning of the cemetery (entering from Main Street), you are in the newer section, but if you keep driving, you will enter the older section which is very picturesque with gigantic oaks dripping spanish moss and palmetto bushes scattered around. Even on a rainy, cold morning Evergreen is a beautiful setting. A true Jacksonville historical landmark. I was here once before checking out the extremely old gravesites, getting some sunset pictures amongst the stately oaks in the cemetery. Today was very different. We were here for the annual St Paddy's 5k. Last time I walked a great distance, but running through the cemetery gave me a whole new perspective. This place is massive. Beautifully manicured and immaculately clean, even as 1200 runners trudged through the property. I will be back this summer to get some more photos, and maybe have a ghostly encounter in one of Jacksonville's supposedly haunted locales. read more

Because Evergreen is more than a repository of RIP, it hosts a pumpkin run and a Pilot Club event, Tales of Our City, that recreates the stories of Evergreen's most interesting occupants. It's a park where one can find peace not terror. We often glide through Evergreen on our bicycles, safe from motorists, looking for monuments or old graves or nothing at all. Beyond the railroad tracks, deeper into the cemetery is a newer part where Heritage Trees are planted and a little pond with a fountain that jets water towards the heavens. Before the advent of the National Park Systems, cemeteries were the parks of distant yesteryears. A place to honor your ancestors while simultaneously enjoying the world of the living. Five stars is for preservation, maintenance, and the association's push to stay relevant to the community by hosting events within its hallowed grounds. Death and dying are a natural part of life. In most cases your local funeral directors are there to help ease your pain by providing comfort and care while planning the burial of your loved one. Unfortunately for our family that was not the case with Evergreen Cemetery on 4535 Main Street, Jacksonville FL. The funeral director Rick Swanson through negligence/fraud caused our family even more grief and suffering in our difficult time. During the contract we chose to have Flag placards placed on our Veteran's coffin, unfortunately due to poor planning on Mr Swansons part they were not here for our funeral. They did however arrive prior to the casket being buried but were not placed on the casket even though we paid for them prior to the funeral. Mistakes happen and as a family we understand that but the poor communication provided made it even worse. I wish this was the only negligence/fraud we suffered but it was merely the tip of the iceberg. Also during the contract process we discussed using a videographer because we have many family members unable to attend due to their age and the fact that we as a nation we are suffering a viral pandemic. This video would help with their closure as they were unable to attend and also provide a keepsake for his widow and daughter as the family pastor gave a wonderful remembrance ceremony on behalf of our loved ones memories. We were charged for this service and it was clearly labeled in our contract to have a videographer for $495.00. On the day of the funeral we noticed no cameras or video recording devices. When we asked Mr Swanson about it the next day he shrugged it off casually that "he just forgot". We also discussed the poor communication and the failure to meet the contract that he created and we were met with half apologies and stating again that he just simply forgot. We are reporting this situation to several agencies including the Better Business Bureau, and the Florida Cemetery Cremation and Funeral Association in hopes that another family does not have to suffer negligence/fraud from Mr. Rick Swanson. It should also be noted that we have used this cemetery, not this funeral director, for several generations of family members and have numerous loved ones there as a final resting place and never throughout all the years have we ever suffered this type of negligence/fraud. read more
