Please allow me to start out by saying that the instructors here are very friendly. The staff I've met and spoken to are great. However, the higher department has gotten me question this place. As we know as of current, the nation (and more) are affected by the public scare of the Coronavirus. With that being said- schools are closing until April 24th, as some parents are not able to work due to closures of facilities, etc. I was sent an email about them seeking for donations. I've sent an email back in-regards to the lack of support to the families affected and all they're worried about is money. I cannot express the stress enough about how many hardships families are facing right now, and to them to utilize this time to use it as basically to advise for their needs. Along with stating about their temporary closure, how to stay clean, it also stated the following: "We are deeply grateful for your dedication and commitment to the arts and ask for your continued support during this challenging time. We need your help more than ever! We kindly ask that you continue supporting our school through your tuition payments and to also consider making a tax-deductible donation to help sustain Evergreen City Ballet. We've been going here for almost a decade. It all started with Mommy and Me beginning dance with Ms. Andi. We were hooked right away with her enthusiasm and encouragement. It's a great place to get top notch instruction and have many chances to participate on the stage with their various high-production shows. There has been some changes of late, but it's better than ever now. The parent guild that created allows all parents to get information from the board and staff and a great way to discuss concerns or ways to improve the school. It has been an integral part of instilling trust and help it feel more like a family. read more

I love this studio! My daughter has been going to ECB since she was five and it was one of the best choices I've ever made for her. The staff and instructors are all warm, friendly and approachable. Even the other families are great. I have yet to run into an uptight "dance mom." We switched our daughter from another studio because she was ready for more challenge. I was amazed at the difference in quality of ballet instruction. ECB curriculum and teaching methods are far superior and it shows in their dancers and the opportunities they provide like the Nutcracker and Elevate. My daughter has grown and flourished at ECB. It should be made clear that Evergreen City Ballet is a non-profit 501(c)3 arts organization who relies entirely on tuition, donations, and sponsors to keep its doors open throughout the year. ECB serves a vital role in promoting the arts in South King County, and provides excellent, pre-professional ballet training to kids who may not have the same opportunities as those in more affluent areas of our region. The staff, Board of Directors, and Parent Guild are all dedicated to enabling ECB to fulfill its mission. ECB has chosen to close its doors for a week as a response to the Corona Virus outbreak. What this poster may not understand is that the very survival of arts organizations around the world rely upon the communities in which they serve, and that this crisis threatens the very existence of our school. Community leaders are recommending that we donate to the arts, if we can afford to. This letter was not a direct solicitation for money. It was to inform families that ECB takes the Corona Virus very seriously, and chose, at great financial risk to the organization, to close the school to ensure the safety of students. Our family has been a part of ECB for over 12 years. We have seen changes at ECB over the years, and have seen some staff and dancers come and go. Everyone has left an imprint on what ECB has been, is currently, and where it is going in the future. Because of the training at ECB, our youngest is a strong, confident young dancer. She is learning not only dance but how to manage her time (honors classes at school, along with music) and how to be a part of a team (friendships, teamwork, communication, delegating, knowing when to step back and listen, and when to step up and lead). All of this training is not "just dance" but so much more about what a well-rounded young person in the 21st century needs. This is such an awesome and nurturing ballet school! My five year old granddaughter started here a year and I got to see her perform in the nutcracker last December! I was so impressed with the staff and their professionalism. I have seen my share of Nutcracker performances but this one was one of my favorites. I highly recommend recommend this school! read more

Three stars for the quality instruction and quality of dance and shows however what a toxic environment this ended up being for our daughter. After three years we unfortunately had to find out there never was an anti bullying policy in place. There are much healthier environments locally to bring your children. read more

How the mighty have fallen. I saw Evergreen City Ballet's production of The Nutcracker in 2005. I was ASTOUNDED at the quality of the show and the performance! This was easily on par with Pacific Northwest Ballet's rendition of the The Nutcracker. The calibre of the performance was truly top notch. Pan forward to 2011... and it's a completely different landscape. Gone is the magnitude of the stage and performance, the cast size and the quality. I was truly disappointed at what I saw. This performance wasn't on par with Pacific at all. It wasn't even close!! It was more like a notch or two above a high school christmas play. Truly a let down. I won't be going back. read more

My daughter spent two summers in their summer intensive program. This fall she left another school in Bellevue and joined Evergreen City Ballet's performance division. The instruction is very good, and the performances are also very good. This year they performed the Nutcracker in Renton, Kirkland, and Auburn, and most of the shows sold out. The production value was very good, as was the opportunity for all the dancers to perform. The staff are top notch, dedicated, and are clearly doing everything they can to grow and improve the school. I'm just very impressed with the whole operation. read more

Tonight we saw the Evergreen City Ballet performance of "New Northwest Works". Their web page describes this performance as showcasing "fresh faces, fresh ideas, and refreshing pieces by some of the Northwest's most talented choreographers." This was the final show for their 2006-2007 season and it was presented at the Carco Theater in Renton near SR 169 (Maple Valley Highway) and Renton Community Center. This special performance featured choreography and performances by Bennyroyce Royon, ECB alumnus, graduate of the prestigious Juilliard school and dancer with New York's famed Metropolitan Opera -- he was excellent and shown like a bright light upon the stage. The performance also featured works by Joel Myers, ECB alumnus and dancer with Seattle's acclaimed Spectrum Dance Theatre and by ECB's own artistic director, Wade Walthall. It is nice to be able to go to a fine arts presentation that is on-par with that of a major city without big city traffic hassles and parking difficulties. The different dances were varied in style and mood. Some were subdued; some melded the mechanical and technical with the soft, feeling and human. In short, there were some elements executed very well and others that were less inspiring, but still nice to watch nevertheless. My favorite was what I guess could be described as a modern dance that had the stage full of dancers writhing and pitching themselves about to a world music soundtrack. The stand-out still had to be the guest performer, alumni "Benny" Royon. He oozed that "it" factor out of every pore and outdanced and outshone anyone else in the production. It would have been entertaining to see him in more than just two dances. Our family had an enjoyable time and we look forward to seeing what's on the schedule for the 2007-2008 season. I should note the Evergreen City Ballet studios are located in Downtown Renton in the former McLendon Hardware site on South 2nd Street about a block from the Renton Transit Center. They offer classes in various styles of dance and in the recent past they have a free open house for kids. I believe they have actually been in business a number of years, however, in the past 1-2 years they moved to Renton after losing their lease in Auburn. read more

With a strong background in the performing arts and history of dancing and working with professional ballet company's, this company leaves MUCH to be desired. The ability to talk to a person regarding performances and ticket sales was dismal and quite frustrating. There are many local dance companies in the area, allowing a LARGE ability for competition. Evergreen may have a great ballet school, I am unable to comment on that aspect. I won't find out, either. My children will be attending one of the other local schools for their dance and another school will be receiving my money. In addition, I will not be attending any performances by Evergreen City Ballet- rather I will find a business willing to earn the money they are charging for tickets and that provides at least acceptable customer service. I wouldn't recommend attempting to attend this sub-par company's shows or giving your money to a poor excuse for a company. In this economy, performing arts are struggling and one would think customer service would be an aspect they would focus on to obtain new and repeat business. However, Evergreen City Ballet has failed. Poor excuse for a business- thank goodness for the free market. read more

Great for Kids, if you want your kids to get into Julliard or become a professional dancer, I'd say this is one of the best dance schools to go to in the Pacific Northwest, imho. They offer classes in various styles of dance of which I had the pleasure to dabble with some top-notch instructors. Best part of Evergreen City Ballet, though, is Stacy the Administrator, who is not only a sweetie but very reliable, dedicated to the school, and makes sure everything is running smoothly. read more

Evergreen brought magic to the stage with Cinderella! I have no children in the performance but took my 6 year old granddaughter. She is rather fidgety and I did not know what to expect. She was absolutely absorbed in the story and applauded with zeal at the appropriate times. She also attended the children's ball after the matinee performance and knew no one. Staff relieved any anxiety and she quickly was consumed with art. Thank you Evergreen for bringing this beautiful art form to our area. We will be back! We saw Sondheim's A Little Night Music here earlier this year. I had been to the Dorothy Chandler years ago, but this was my first time in a while. We had cheap seats up top and, my goodness, they are steep! I felt like if I were not very careful I would fall out of the balcony and take out a couple of the fat cats below. Yikes! If you bring your camera, you'll have to check it downstairs. They have soft drinks and wine at a small stand on the side of the lobby. Otherwise, there is a lively scene outside before the show as people dine in the courtyard at the restaurant. It is not a good place to bring a picnic, so eat beforehand or make reservations. read more

I grew up dancing with the Evergreen City Ballet from 1999 until 2007 and later danced in the company for the 2008/2009 season. I was able to train with some of the best ballet teachers in Washington and was given so many great performing opportunities. I still go back and take class whenever I'm home from college and I still feel apart of the ECB family. Their young dancers are strong and it is fun to come back and see the students improve and gradually turn into beautiful dancers every few months when I come home. They are definitely receiving quality training in a great atmosphere. The studios are very nice and they even have a black box theater so they can have performances at the studio which creates more performing opportunities for their students. I look forward to seeing what happens to ECB in the future and hope they continue to grow :) read more
