The main dance floor is roomy, which is good because it's a popular place on Friday nights! We've noticed a number of regulars with serious skills, which is evidence of the good business model, friendly atmosphere, and quality teaching. Friday night - Open dance starts with an hour-long mini-class at 7:00, then a variety of music and dancing until 11. I'm disappointed it will cost $15/person starting in December because it was already a splurge at $12/each (for us). Beginner tip: If you're trying to learn one of the MANY line dances, jump into the middle of the pack quickly so you have people to watch no matter what direction you turn. Dave- the owner and instructor is knowledgeable and calm. My husband and I are beginners, but Dave constantly scans for the things we need corrected and repeated. It's a good thing he's so kind and patient! Terry- We took a class from him in the smaller area, and while he knew the dance very well (both leader and follower's parts), we felt he spent too much time describing things and explaining his analogies. That said, we would take another class from him. We appreciated how at the end of every class, asked us to get out our phones and record him as he demonstrated the new steps. That made it easy to practice at home. His female assistant was fantastic-- patient and great at demonstrating the follower's part. She showed more and talked less; more efficient practice means better muscle memory. read more

Went here for a friend's wedding reception last night - not sure what I really expected from the title of the venue but I'm pretty sure it lived up to it's name. Yes, there is a big wooden rocking horse flanking the dance floor, complete with two moose heads on the other floors. Disco balls and lights abound to set off the impressively sized, 50'x80' dance floor. The barn looks like a barn from the outside but looks like a big square dance hall on the inside. If you're looking for a real barn, look next door; by the smells of it, I would assume horses.... pleasant. It was a pretty casual reception, potluck style in the kitchen adjacent to the dining area. No complaints here, but obviously not your place if you're looking for a classier or catered reception. Tables reminded us of camp with benches but the wedding party dressed it up nicely with candles and tablecloths. I saw the prices online and looked fair considering the size of the venue. Overall, what you see is what you get. I'm not exactly a square dancin', rockin' horse, line dancer but if you're looking for a good sized venue and a big dance floor with a barn atmosphere, this is your place. My husband and I decided long before we got engaged, that we would take dance lessons. Neither of us could dance; he has two left feet and I have no rhythm. Yikes! As an intro, I purchased a groupon from a local studio which provided a basic overview of most dances so we could get our feet wet, so to speak, and judge what we had to work with. At the end of our groupon, we were pulled into a side room and pushed into the upsell game. While the staff there was friendly, there was a lot of side chit chat which took away from the time we would end up spending dancing overall...when you pay money for dance lessons, I didn't want to just stand there. I searched reviews online, and ended up booking a single lesson at Rockin Horse Dance Barn to see how their teaching style differed from what we had previously experienced. It was a night and day difference and we haven't looked back. We worked with Dave, the owner, and explained our situation and he worked with us to choreograph our first dance. The initial song that we had chosen ended up being too fast; he and his wife demonstrated how we could dance to it, and we decided sprinting through our first dance was sub optimal. We ended up choosing a different song, which worked out to be a much better fit. Dave was patient with my husband's two left feet, and helped me find my rhythm. If we didn't like a particular step he showed us, it was no big deal to let him know and we used something else. The dance came together and it was amazing. The day of the wedding was a blur, but watching the video was the most incredible feeling. The dance began as they all do, side conversations here and there...but by a third of the way into the dance, all eyes were on us. We were focused on each other, we didn't miss a step and everyone cheered after each turn, and at the end of the dance. When we were walking off the dance floor, the MC stated that that was what two people in love look like. It was amazing and so emotional. We will definitely be back to continue taking lessons together. It was great to have quality time with my husband while we do an activity together. It isn't quite a barn dance since there is a professional polished hardwood floor, sound system and lights. The facility is themed like a country barn though. I started salsa lessons and was pleased with the friendly, skilled instructor. The room and floor space was large and inviting. It was cold when we started but 5 minutes into dancing I was glad the heat wasn't on any higher. Our first hour we were doing basic steps and 4 different holds. The instructor kept the mood light and more importantly, fun. I look forward to my next lesson and attending some extra practice sessions. They host lots of practice dances and even catered events. Ample parking once you find the studio tucked back in residential neighborhoods. read more

Husband and I took Waltz and Fox Trot lessons for a family wedding from Katie Marie. Fantastic! She is knowledgeable, fun, and best of all, patient. We never - ever felt clumsy or awkward. If one technique instruction wasn't working she quickly found another way to explain a move. We adore her! Couldn't give the location the 5th star because I felt it was a little run down. I know they are working hard with minimum staff, but a good sweep to spiff up the dance floor would do wonders. read more

terrible terrible service from this older lady with short hair at the front desk. if i could give this interaction 0 stars i would, no hesitation. came here with my grandma who wanted to dance and had a complication because my brothers who were also with us did not care to dance. took time to translate to my grandma whose english is not the best that even if the boys sat to watch, they'd still have to pay. when my grandma went to ask a question she received attitude from this woman. my grandma was nothing but kind during this interaction but was met with nothing but disrespect. it takes little to no time to recognize a language barrier and to act accordingly, yet, it felt like the second this woman recognized that she acted upon her annoyance and ignorance. she had no business speaking to me like i don't speak english when i had been there translating for my grandma in front of her the whole time. so, no thank you! never coming here again and so glad we didn't spend money today! good to know business is so bad you have to charge people for sitting on their phones. read more

One of the largest dance areas in the Seattle area. Dave is a great guy and if you like mostly country this is the place for you. Ron Bolin does DJ music and for me the popularity of his events have gone down in part because of his music selections which I don't care for; I mean for $12 you get DJ music and for $15 you get live music all over town from Sons of Norway every second Sat night to Sons of Norway and other places... I will take live music every time. It is a long drive from Lynnwood to this place so I tend to go to places closer to that area and will go to downtown Seattle like the Century Ballroom. If you live close to this place it is great..but to far for me based on other better live music choices.. read more

I went to this place with my husband to learn line dance for a school activity...within weeks we had signed up for three other classes because the instructors are so awesome and we started having so much FUN. We had never danced before but are having a blast learning so much. It is quite reasonable, the people are friendly and welcoming, and it is open to all ages. We feel like we have found a neighborhood treasure. I highly recommend this to anyone who would like to lose a little weight, make a few friends, and learn something new. We love it. read more

I absolutely adore this place. The people that work here are so amazing. My husband and I always have THE BEST time here even though we are novice dancers at best. Dave, Jimmy and the receptionist are just the nicest people you will ever meet and will bend over backwards to make sure everyone has a great time. Over the years my husband and I have had the pleasure to taking part in dance lessons (group and private), weekend dances, and socials at the Rockin"Horse Dance Barn. Dave, Jimmie, other instructors and guests DJ's are all very skilled and personable. They have a great variety of music and dances. The sound system is terrific. Best of all it is just the best dance floor in the area. Not only is well taken care of but it is just really BIG! There is room for many dancers without undo crowding. They have also recently added air-conditioning making the warm evenings more comfortable. read more
