My niece had a great time. The park is well spaced out and plenty of things for kids to do. The only draw back is not at fault of the park,it is in fault of the parents of the children at the park. I had to tell one little boy twice it to throw a big stick over the slide. All in all this is a cute park tucked inside of Bellaire.

This is the main park of the city of Bellaire and is home to a swimming facility (Bellaire Family…read moreAquatics Center), tennis courts, baseball field (Bellaire Little League), an open air stage, a large pavilion and recreation center. It is immediately next to Loftin Park which has a large playground - essentially the two parks are one large park, and you won't notice the difference. It is a great place to walk your dog, meet friends for a socially-distanced picnic, take your kids to swim (for a fee), and catch Pokemon (the park is full of Pokestops). Our friends who are parents pointed out that the playground has a section for big kids, as well as little kids. Free parking is available on all sides of the park; this includes official park lots, the city hall lot, and street parking. What it is not: no BBQ pits, has walking paths but they are too short to be running trails. No food or beverage places, although a short 1-minute drive (or 5-min walk) north there are nice restaurants on Bellaire Boulevard. Before coronavirus there used to be small concerts at the main stage in the summer, as well as storytime at Loftin Park.

The Nature Discovery Center was a favorite when my kids were small. Loved the bunnies, the Wiggles and Squirms classes and summer camps. From being summer campers to junior counselors, they really learned a lot about science and nature. They even hosted a booth about eating healthy for their Girl Scout Silver Award during Pumpkin Patch one sunny October weekend. Love birding? Check out the list of bird sightings. Saw a juvenile yellow crowned night heron recently. In some cultures, this is a symbol of good luck and prosperity. Check out the turtles swimming in the small pond along the boardwalk. The park is free to visit. Parking is available both off Evergreen and Newcastle. Enjoy a walk in the woods in Bellaire.

Their hours during the school year (late August - late May) are Tuesday through Thursday, 10am-noon and 4pm-6pm. The surrounding park is open 7 days a week, 5am-930pm. The park is small but lovely. There are lots of little trails that help isolate you from the road/other visitors. I was impressed at how many benches & picnic tables there were throughout the park. Lots of places to stop and rest. A charming fountain. A few signs to let you know about local flora/fauna. A playground for kids. Even if you visit when the nature center is closed, they do have some outdoor cages with animals. There was a bunny cage although I think he was hiding. Also saw a possum -- Blossom was a cutie. There was also a turtle cage but they weren't there (gone for hibernation, apparently). There was also a large cage with doves. So there are some animals to see whenever you visit. Another major plus -- they have outdoor bathrooms! They are separate from the nature center. I always have to pee so this is a big draw for me. There are two parking lots -- one at the north area (by the nature center) and the other at the south area (by the playground). The parking lots are small but if you come early, it shouldn't be an issue. I'm not sure what the street parking situation is in the area.

I was with my son (3 years old) so I didn't feel like I was unwanted or in an area I shouldn't be. The houses around the park are massive and beautiful! Just sitting in that park watching your kid play and checking out the houses around me kind of gave me some motivation to maybe do better for myself. Weird thought lol, but I recommend just taking your kids there to play.

My other friend was told off because her dog had a loose stool. There is a poisonous group of dog owners who think they own the park.

Helen's Park is located near a neighborhood library and YMCA center. We always park our car at the YMCA next door and walk over. It's very peaceful here when there's not a crowd of people (which there usually is - everyone taking professional photos). The running water flowing through the middle of the park makes the environment very tranquil. The pictures below are from a cold winter day and don't do the park justice, but in the springtime when the greenery and flowers are in full bloom, I guarantee it is beautiful!

I have an 11 month old and it was pretty perfect for him. Artificial grass areas for him to play on with a small hill. Swings for little ones too. He had a ball. Lots of play structures, spinners, climbing, swings, most of the area is wood chipped. Nice coveted area to have a gathering - birthday, etc. The area is completely gated for safety. Parking on opposite sides of the street, don't park directly on park side. Don't block driveways.
