Disclosure: I DONT GO TO THIS SCHOOL. I'm only rating this on their TENNIS COURT, BASKETBALL COURT, FOOTBALL FIELD. Tennis court is amazing and clean. All the line are new and get repainting regularly. There are two level and 8 courts which is amazing! Net are straight and solid, brand new too. Basketball court get used often. Net are sometime ripped but it get replace so no complaint. Lot of courts and dual level as well. Rim are not bent or crooked. Always people here playing for pickup game. I play often on weekdays and weekend and there is always enough court for everyone. Football field ... it is locked up during weekend. Just up the fence .. everyone does it. The reason it is lock up is because their field are AMAZING ... so AMAZING. I play flag football and it so easy running on the field. Getting tackle and slam to the ground does even hurt much ... love this field. Evergreen Valley High School has serious accountability issues. Administration often brushes aside student concerns, especially regarding safety. Some teachers grade subjectively without clear rubrics, making expectations unclear and inconsistent. With ongoing budget deficits, the school should focus on retaining teachers who genuinely care about student growth, learning, and success, while addressing poor teaching practices. I gave this school 5-star because my kids go here and it's a good school overall Dear the Dance Organizers for tonight event (01/13/24) To kindly and professionally put: YOU SUCK! We bought tickets (4) and came at 5:45pm, only to see the gates were locked with no signs. There were a lot of other kids standing outside with tickets like us and we were all confused as how to get it. 1. If you decided NOT to let people in for whatever reason ... basic common sense: PUT UP A NOTICE TO ADVISE THE SITUATION! Seeing a lady busy counting ticket money behind locked doors and ignoring us standing on the other side of the glasses are classless and rude. 2. If you sell X amount of tickets, you should have X amount of seats to accommodate the buyers. We knocked on the door and finally a lady came out telling us there is no more seats/spaces. I asked "Why?" and the answer was "Well, blame it to the kids who do not have tickets and came in with their friends" Well, I do not blame them. I blame YOU: the adults who do not know the basic rule of ticketing at gate and allowed this situation happened. Not accepting accountability and blamed it on the kids are not good image. Do not expect my empathy with this answer! 3. "Don't worry! You will be refunded for the tickets you bought"...How little did you know this is not about the $ or tickets. It's about missing the opportunity to see and support my kids' performance, which happened once in a lifetime. It was ruined and taken away by your poor organizing skills and lack of transparency/honesty and communication. 4. "We didn't expect it to be crowded this year. Last year only 70 showed up"... How in the world you can organize a big event with this mentality? In the end, you still messed up by not doing crowd control and ticketing correctly. We drove 45 mins to come and support my kids' dance and were sent away because of this BS. "Disappointed" is an understatement. Don't expect this to get to the school's office but if it does, I sincerely ask you to review this event so future event(s) won't suffer the same horrible result. What the heck... 3 and a half stars...? Okay.... Let me just first get this out in the open - I have high standards when it comes to an education, and I'll say that EVHS may boast having the highest API score in the dstrict, but I'd like to tell parents that the API score should be much higher. Yes, that's right - higher. If you've ever been to the east side of San Jose, you'll notice that the area is fairly wealthy. People usually have about a six figure salary and the fact that EVHS is WAY behind Palo Alto's API score does not make me exactly ..proud or prideful to have been an alumni. In fact, EVHS's API score is rather low. It sat at 838 when I graduated, but Palo Alto's is at least 900. I know this upcoming review/comment may offend some, but I think it reveals a lot of truth: the ESUHD is a joke. I personally thought EV was bad, but to think that there are worse high schools boggles my mind completely. I know for a fact that there are valedictorians at other ESUHD high schools who go to middle tier UCs and are praised for being "smart" in their respective high school. But when they come to college, their level of preparedness is quite sad and pathetic. Especially those who have so-called high GPAs in some ESUHD high school struggle with classes such as general chemistry when they hit their very first year of college. To be honest, my childhood friend that I grew up had parents who chose to move her to Palo Alto High School, and she is excelling in UC Irvine. So much so, she actually wants to transfer to a more challenging university. I mean, the average for Palo Alto High School's SAT Score is over a 1900, where EVHS's average SAT score sits at a 1500-1600. Honestly, I think colleges should weigh the SAT a lot more than GPAs. It's obvious that everyone gets the same test, but everyone gets different teaching, and different everything else. You would expect a person with a 3.8 GPA or above to at least survive with a B or A in college, but what happens to them is that they end up falling way behind many others in college. This is quite tragic - albeit embarrassing. It's as if you come from a school known to be intelligent, where at a UC, you're just a regular. I guess this opens a lot of eyes for some kids out there. Personally, I did not feel that ready for college either, and because of this, I had to spend extra time learning how to take notes by myself on the side and practically live at the library. Man, I just want to sock myself in the face for letting me come to EVHS just so that I could be with my friends from middle school. If only I could speak to myself back then and actually be obedient to my parents! Notre Dame and Archbishop Mitty were good schools, yet I stupidly argued with my parents to let me go to EVHS. It's so true that at private schools, they care about students' success and they have reputations to uphold because of that as well. Although EVHS isn't exactly the best high school, I'm extremely proud of my childhood friend that I went to school with for the past 13 years who was valedictorian and is at MIT. It was not a wonder why my parents wanted me to be around her so much - she was a really positive influence. Oh, and the two stars are for the few good teachers that I had at EVHS. If it weren't for them, I'd give this place .. probably a 0.5 star .. for the school security and closed campus (although a lot of people can evade this through loopholes). Lastly, don't even get me started on the overcrowding issue, the counselors, and the student to teacher ratio. read more

Wish I could give this school a 0/5 tbh. I graduated from this high school not long ago and I 100% think that majority of the teachers need to be replaced. Many of them are there for the money. I'd say 10% of the teachers actually want to be there to TEACH! AKA Cheadle and Devo!! I am not trying to be blunt but counselors and staff were absolutely USELESS. They were almost NEVER available when a student is in need. The staff does a poor job of advocating for ALL students. They handle things very poorly when it comes to choosing a particular student's side in things. The students as well don't respect anyone. The worst experience with student councilors ! Mrs. Graves. Even after explaining my kid's medical condition, the councilor had no f'ing clue on how to deal with the situation and kept following stupid protocol. For that amount of education, they really don't have the brains to be a councilor. I would have lost my kid that day. For the stupid rankings they have at this school and no proper councilor for kids with medical condition. I wouldn't rely too much on what these morons have to say about kids health. Cause they follow protocols blindly and are not interested in saving the kids. More interested in saving their asses when things go south! This is a fantastic public high school in the Evergreen neighborhood of San Jose. From my perspective as a parent, I'd gladly say that the teachers and administration care about students, provide great opportunities for learning, and work to offer all the students need inside and outside the classroom. This is a place where neighbors of all backgrounds learn side by side and achieve as they see fit. Students here come across as good, kind people who are working hard to be the best students they can be. I haven't had any negative interactions with students or teachers or staff. Academics wise, Evergreen did not prepare me for college AT ALL. A lot of classes were useless and I seriously don't remember ever stressing about homework. That being said, I graduated with a ridiculous weighted GPA (over 4.0) and got into a great school. However, I had a lot of trouble keeping up in college and had to work my ass off to get to the level that I was supposed to be at. The administration did their best to kill everyone's spirits (both students and teachers) and the growing pains never went away. But, there were a handful of really amazing teachers who stuck by us. The admin did a good job of chasing a lot of those teachers away as many left after my class graduated (2005) or a few years after. On the other hand, we weren't learning anything and we had a damn good time doing it. I remember hanging out, doing extra curricular activities a lot, and basically doing whatever I felt like - including raking up over 200 tardies/absences that were dismissed because I was a "good kid" haha. For parents - don't send your kids here! Other schools in the area might seem "ghetto" but they have more experienced teachers and programs (like the stellar math program at Mt. Pleasant). Don't be fooled by the AP scores, either. Those are a result of individual students wanted to do well rather than a reflection of teaching quality. Case in point: I passed my exams with flying colors but either didn't take the classes (like most of my peers because classes weren't available) or didn't do the work . I will always have a place for Evergreen Valley High School in my heart. I was in leadership for about 2.5 years and an ASB officer for 2 years, and I can honestly say that the memories that I've made here will stick with me forever. EVHS was my second home, and as cheesy as it sounds, i will always have cougar pride in me. EVHS has so much to be proud about. The students here are amazing, from being crazy talent to being insanely smart, and it's not rare for them to be both. There are teachers here who have made a huge impact in my life, and I can speak for others as well. There are those teachers that students complain about, but that's unavoidable. There is new administration, and they are so involved with the student life on campus. They are always available, especially during break and lunch as they are open to conversation and help, and make sure that students are safe and happy. They constantly support sports, leadership, the clubs, and just everyone. I think a lot of people don't give EVHS a chance. High school is really what you make it-- join clubs, play sports, be a part of plays and musicals, join leadership, run for class/ASB officer, or whatever your heart desires. The campus is beautiful and new, as we are only about 12 years old. The one thing that I really like about the campus is that there is one central location, The Valley (aka the quad), where most of all the lunch rallies and activities take place, and it really helps with school unity and spirit. It also makes navigation easier. Our turf and track was just renewed last year, and it's absolutely wonderful! Our fields and courts are very spacious, and many people go there after school to run and do other recreational activities. The walkways and building entrances have been expanded, and it is so convenient. Getting to class is no problem. There are many clubs located on campus that appeal to all interests. There's the Acapella Club, International Thespian Society, Interact, Key Club, American Medical Student Association, Chess Club, Vietnamese Student Union, Internation Desi Connection, and plenty more. Many of the clubs hold huge events for the whole school and it gets really exciting! My favorite thing about EVHS was the spirit. I could go on forever talking about how spirited each class, person, and the school is, but it really is phenomenal. The most spirited night has to be Battle of the Classes. The energy is just out of this world... You leave the gym with your ears ringing with a whole new level of school and class pride. There are so many events that take place: Homecoming, the tailgate for the homecoming football game, Multicultural Winterfest, Battle of the Classes, sports games, the list goes on forever meaning that there are so many opportunities to get involved. Leadership is amazing as well! You meet a wide variety of people and get to change the school in the way you believe is best. You acquire new skills and get to work on yourself too! It is definitely a great experience. The staff always talks about how EVHS is one of the best public schools in the East Side Union High School District. The students who did complain about high school come back saying that they truly do miss EVHS and the people. I honestly don't know how to explain it -- the feeling you get when you hear the school roar during games and rallies, or the excitement you feel when you walk onto campus. Senior here at EVHS and I love it so much I wish I could be a super senior and stay longer!!!! There are SO many ways to get yourself involved at this school. For me, it was mainly sports and student body. I ran cross country for 4 years and I don't think I would want it any other way. The system was awesome. I had mad respect for my coaches and teammates and I learned a lot of valuable things from just participating in a sport. From team work to hard work to accomplishment, I have only gained from my experiences running. We actually got a new track and turf for this season! It's awesome. The resilience of the newly paved track was great for workouts, cool downs, you name it. The new turf is also really nice AND GREEN!!! Yay for saving water in this California drought. ;-) With that, there's also the upper field that always is good for star gazing at night... But other than the beautifully modern looking buildings and the blossoming trees every spring, EVHS had so much more to offer. There are TONS of different clubs to join that will readily welcome you with open arms. Clubs here are awesome. They range from big to small and they always help you meet new people and get connected. Other than that, there are always so many things to do here. Most of my Saturdays are booked because I want to go watch some student ran plays in theater, or some cultural show, or a fashion show, or a basketball game.. There's so many things to do!!! Also I really like a lot of the teachers I had in my previous years at EVHS. Even though I'm not going to be a history major, I learned that my most favorite subject is US History and I'm so glad that EVHS had an AP class for it, because it was awesome and I'm happy that I got to learn about it for a year! With that, this school offers a wide range of classes that are Advanced Placement, letting students challenge themselves and prepare for college. But there's so many ways to try different things, whether it be joining a different club or signing up for an interesting class, the opportunities are endless here at EVHS. Not to mention prom... Ok so there any many misconceptions that i am gonna clear here. this is my first year at evhs and it is probably the best school in our district by a landslide for many reasonds. Now heres why people. first off, the campus and staff are great, the campus has been extremely clean and safe, and our staff has been amazing this year. previous years i heard it was terrible but look, we have a new principal and a new principal. Ms. Kelly and Mr. Kleckner are probably the greatest people ever, they have cleaned up and made all the teachers better, they have stopped all drug use and violence whatsoever, and have made evhs a golden school. second, our counselors are amazing and we have our own online counseling database called naviance, where students can get all the help they can possibly imagine and are very involved and will help you with anything necessary. It is the best school in the district NOW, not before, but NOW, campus = amazing, staff = amazing, students = amazing, api score = highest in district, and finally, a loving and caring community == always there for you read more

I am so proud to have this my home for the past 4 years. Being here has taught me a lot about being independent. Everybody here is friendly and social, so it makes the environment feel more comfortable. The campus has just added in new lunch tables AND our track/ football field has been renovated. Plus, our new administration is super nice! I'm so glad Mr. Kleckner and Ms. Kelly are now a part Evergreen because I've never seen any administration nicer than them that actually communicate and get along with the students. EVHS is insanely spirited, and out of all 4 years, I have gotten pretty good teachers! Mr. Redialls, Ms. Rubio, Mrs. Devo, Mrs. Panes... etc. have challenged me to go above and beyond my own expectations, but it pays off because you actually understand the concepts of each subject they're teaching. There are amazing school events, like dances, battle, homecoming... etc. And if you're not into that, there's a variety of sports and clubs that you can join! You can and never will be disappointed with Evergreen Valley High School. I hope that everyone is able to make amazing memories here because it does go by really quick. Evergreen is located in a great neighborhood. I've been attending Evergreen for 4 years now and there's no other place I'd rather be than here. It's not just that our API scores are higher than the average, it's that the people here can brighten up your day. We have such great and supportive students. Sure there are some things that we can improve on such as staff, bathrooms, and we may have some less than supportive students but every school has its flaws. We have a large variety of clubs and sports. Your children will find great lifelong friends here. There's only one thing you need to attend to judge whether your student should attend EVHS. Battle of the classes, BOTC, is one of the most heart-warming and spirited events of the school year. This event is where our students can put so many life skills that aren't learned in classes. They're able to construct, design, and perform. The time and effort our students put on for a 3 hour event is impeccable. They spend nights until 11 rehearsing and all-nighters to finish decorating. All our parents see is a 3 hours show but what the students see is a 3 month-long preparation being put into action. It warms my heart to see everyone smiling and enjoying their time. Honestly, I would attend Evergreen just for this event let alone the other miraculous things this school offers. read more

Evergreen Valley High School is like any other high school. i have a lot of people come to me and tell me that high school was a big bore.. but at evergreen valley high it was a very good experience. The teachers there were all fairly new, some were old teachers, but overall they did a good job. The Faculty and Staff were awesome! The best thing about evergreen valley high would be there activities! Some of the best programs are located on this campus! Main concern is to just stay active in school and work hard. Evergreen Valley High School- the place that I'm proud to have been able to call my home for the past three years. The school is still relatively new, and it's absolutely beautiful. There is a new track, turf, improved walkways, and there will soon be a new mural as well! Those aren't the only wonderful things that EVHS offers though. Our school has amazing spirit, and walking through campus during one of the spirit weeks will make you wish you went here. There are so many clubs to join, including Vietnamese Student Union, Key Club, Interact, Black Student Union, Acapella and so much more! There are also events such as the annual Multicultural Winterfest that bring the community together for a night of fantastic performances and club-run booths. One of the biggest events of the year is Battle of the Classes, and I'd have to say that is one of my personal favorite events at EV. Students create the decorations. Students write the scripts. Students choreograph the dances and teach to over fifty participants. They hardly get the recognition they deserve, meaning it's solely done on class pride and the love that each and every one of them has for the school. The energy of the crowd as well as the participants during the show will leave you speechless, should you be one of the lucky few that manage to snatch a ticket before they all sell out. Overall, Evergreen Valley High School is a wonderful school that I am so glad I have the privilege of attending. School is school. I haven't met one person who was completely and utterly in love with everything their school had to offer. That being said, Evergreen really has made a lasting impression the last four years. The student population is diverse as possible, after-school activities are plentiful, and the campus is beautiful. Keep in mind this is a public school, where education is FREE. People can't expect the same intimacy as a top private school where tuition runs in the tens of thousands. However, we have rigorous educational courses with a multitude of APs to choose from. Our drama department is always preparing for their next show to perform in our new theater. And with 2700+ other students, you're bound to find at least a solid group of friends that share whatever your interests may be. Evergreen isn't here to hold your hand every step of the way. But if you're truly serious about it, we're never going to shut you out. Be proactive and our doors will always be open. read more

Yay, I get to unload about the worst part of my high school career! I graduated in 2005, which would make me part of the first graduating class. Deciding to switch to EVHS from Silver Creek was probably the worst scholastic decision of my life. I got fed into the small school for Humanities. I only went for the laptop, as did probably 95% of the others who transferred that first year. Giving the students their own laptops to use in class was probably the worst decision they made seeing as they didn't put blocks on any websites. We pretty much spent our days on AIM, homestarrunner.com, and playing video games during class. Yeah, we didn't have our own laptops the next year. Oh, classes. What a joke! The first year EVHS was open, the Humanities small school had a full-time science teacher for all of 2 months. He was a very nice guy and a good teacher. The horrible little miscreants I graduated with scared him off. From then on we had a string of substitutes who either got fed up or scared away. The last sub we had flat out told us that he gave up on us a long time ago and that we could ride out the rest of the year playing games. You can probably imagine how the other classes were. By the time I left for Independent Studies halfway through my junior year, most of the teachers we started out with had left. I can only think of one teacher I actually learned something from. The campus is absolutely beautiful, albeit far too small for what their student body has grown into. I believe they had to build portables after the first or second year of new freshmen. The whole small schools concept, while good, didn't work because of a lack of any real leadership and communication. There was also a huge lack of funds due to it all being spent on the lovely campus. Thus, the small schools collapsed onto themselves and Evergreen Valley High School, the greatest concept that never actually happened, became formatted just like every other high school. If I learned anything from my time at at EVHS, it was that the Independent Studies program is possibly the greatest thing ever. Oh, and also, I will never send my kids to a school as young and unestablished as EV was when I went there. Schools need a lot of time to work out the kinks, and I wouldn't be shocked to hear that they still aren't ironed out. read more

I never made the most of highschool, but I have to say, EVHS is now a great place. My senior year is when I took an active role in the student body, and I had the best time out of any of my four years here. Students are spirited, smart, and friendly. In addition, we have the most diversity out of any other highschools I have seen. EVHS offered me a so-so four years in highschool, but ever since the new administration joined, I know things will be brighter for future students. Mrs. Kelly brought a new vibe to this school that was never seen before, and I am sure she and the new administration will only make things better and safer for students. read more

This is a great school! I am personally graduating from the year of 2014 and I have made some great memories in my 4 years if high school. The school is open to many different activities including theatre, academics, sports, clubs, and much more. Although this school is a public school, we truly makes the best of what we have. If you attend one of the biggest events, Battle of the Classes, you can see what students at EVHS are capable of. Coming into this school i was overwhelmed at all the spirit everyone had and could not stop myself from also joining in on the action!. i went from someone who never participated in any school stuff to becoming an active member at all school events and doing every spirit day. Even though this school is packed with an enormous amount of people, events like battle, homecoming, and just everyday school life just brings everyone together! the new administration has also done a fantastic job in trying to make the school as best of an environment for students to learn in and enjoy. If a student truly wants to be educated and wants to learn, he or she will see to it that he or she acquires the best education. The clubs are wonderful and really diverse, it really helps everyone feel welcomed and understood. Even though practically everyone is asian or indian, the diversity is really great! Also, there are many bad influences at EVHS but who doesn't have that? Regardless, the competition at EVHS is extremely high and will definitely push you to be a maverick. Evergreen Valley High School is the embodiment of an exceptional school. I have gone here for the past 3 years, and I would not want to go anywhere else. To start off, the campus is beautiful. With a lot of new renovations this year, Evergreen is prettier and cleaner than ever. We also have murals and beautification projects which students participate in, so they have a say in how our school looks. Furthermore, Evergreen hosts great events which held unify the student body. Our largest event, Battle of the Classes, brought students together to enjoy school and class pride. It was an overall fun, spirited and rewarding experience. Academically, Evergreen also boasts great test scores and curriculum. We have a highly competitive student body, in which students aim to get into top UC's and private universities. As for AP classes, the limit of how many AP's a student can take has been lifted, giving students a chance to take on challenging classes and show off their true potential. Also, the environment at Evergreen Valley High School is welcoming and spirited! Students look out for each other and we all come together to participate on spirit days. In a way, EVHS is the living embodiment of "High School Musical". The combination of a clean campus, great events, friendly students and an exceptional academic program makes Evergreen Valley High School a top-notch school. read more

This school doesn't even deserve one star. This is by far the WORST high school I have been to. This is my third high school and I couldn't be more unhappy. I learn absolutely nothing every single day. The teachers don't teach, they just assign work and expect us to teach ourselves or read their mind and know what to do. The teachers are absolutely horrible and the students here are so not welcoming. I'm considering home schooling because I just am not learning what I need to learn. I'm not being prepared for college whatsoever and they can't even get us a permanent English 3 teacher. We are on our 4th sub this year. Thanks Evergreen for the worst high school experience yet! Nobody should ever consider this crappy school. I'm so dis to say I'm going to be graduating next year from this garbage school. read more
