1/- Course material: This new implementation year of Common Core Math assigns an 8th grader to repeat the same pre-algebra with a little bit of the new "common core" material. It means that students have to retake the course again from last year 7th grade pre-algebra (they do gain new knowledge of the common core but the the course is still pre-algebra). a higher Geometry course is offered but the students have to pass an Algebra I test with high score(85%). No Algebra I course for the student that already had pre-algebra. 2/- Homework: If you make a simple mistake in your homework you will get 60%(D). Usually Final Grade = 25%homework+ 25%participation+ 25%test+ 25%project. 3/- Participation: "it is like no child left behind and no child left ahead". Everyone has to do the same basic stuff until the last person gets it. And in a group , it is the duty of the other group members to teach everyone until all get the concept, other wise they will loose points. If the group got a F which account for 25%, students will get a C overall score (100% in everywhere which is very tough -therefore D is more likely). i loved chaboya, all the good memories. of course middle school was the time where everyones hormones was JUST about kicking in and going crazy. it was a nice school that was circled in that made you kinda feel safe secured and well, could act however you really wanted to act. notable teachers there is the shops teacher mr. gardei, probably the most badass shops teacher there is. i'm not sure if budget cuts cut the shops class, but i was fortunate enough to take both wood and metal shop. and let me tell you, it really did open my eyes up to industrial arts and satisfied my hunger of "hands on" learning. a friend and i had to see for ourselves when the "pool on the chaboya roofs" was the hype. we climbed up, and to our surprise....no pool anywhere. it was quite amazing to chill up there, really my friend circled the school twice while i just sat there and watched him. being class of 2005, chaboya was fortunate to have one of the best upcomming basketball players to date, one attends Oak Hill Academy (40-1 losing the championship) and the other is at St. Francis, whose number 1 in the state. there were others too that deserve merits but quite frankly i don't know where the hell they go. the food here was delicious, and mr. trent (if hes still there) was one spontaneous science teacher. i've never colored more in my life than that class. ms marshall, a wonderful english teacher who opened my eyes up to poetry from edgar allen poe and quite a few other things. i had a wonderful time learning in that class mr. claspill, the only thing i remembered really is the rumour of how he kept porno in his microwave and learning about Maachu Pichu. at the end of the year he was selling candy and drinks for about 25 cents a pop. that was cool life skills was a fun class, ms meacham was my teacher. i wasn't quite on good terms with her, but i cannot complain. the cooking was pretty fun. i'll never forget Mr. Lu, T-A-ing for that math class where everyone messed around and pissed him off. Wow, if you ever wanted to know when your tax payer money was wasted it was definitely this class. Hilarious Mr. Ferguson was also a great science teacher, quite a humble man and really answered some of my questions well. Mr. Mitchell was an awesome history teacher. I guess I was either too young or too restless to really pay attention in his class, but the things he provided for us was exciting and hands on. I like that. the only thing i remember getting from that class was manifest destiny and how messed up the americans were to the native americans. oh well... also hes an actor and showed us a couple of productions he was in via VHS. The only teacher i really didn't like was ms. peterson. no offense, but i guess when you deal with middle school-ers on a daily basis, you can get sick of it and sometimes its just like baby-sitting. i, however got caught up in the wrong mix and she wrongfully accused me of "acting a fool" when i clearly wasn't (and if you wanna know, i was passing papers back in my TA class and she saw me running across the class because my teacher told me to hurry up and she got me for that). whatever, i got detention, stayed in for 15 mins, shutted up, just said yes m'am whenever, then got out. but if anything she was the one who was "acting a fool," and if you believe in karma she probably got what she deserved by now. i ain't trippin let's see, when i was in session our bball court had crappy ass tiles, and our basketball games instantly turned from a baskeball game to slippin on ice disney on ice shows. i'm serious, trade in your nikes for some jacksons! so yeah, middle school. a good time in my life, i don't know what it is now for what it's worth, but in my time, it was wonderful. read more

They say highschool is the time of your life.... I think sometimes maybe they might be wrong. Those two years at Chaboya were pretty damn fun, especially my eighth grade year there. Made so many friends there, created many memories and moments. Where can I start? jeez. I loved having the library open in the morning and during break and lunch to do some last minute homework and studying. And actually homework club afterschool was a pretty efficient place to get my homework done so I wont have to worry about doing it when I get home. My teachers were all great, minus one *cough* Ms. Chapa *cough* Mr. Atkins science class was entertaining, and Mr. Mcferran's U.S. History class was my favorite class out of my schedule, with everyone goofing off everyday. Out of all my teachers though, Mrs. Luo was the nicest. :D Still the best math teacher up to this moment. I had 4th period lifeskills, which meant food for lunch. Great class too, I highly recommend you take lifeskills as an elective. Being on the cross country team was a blast, and I remember the long busrides home along with going to In n out after the meets. For track, it was the same thing too, as I made more friends, and had a total blast running at the meets. And again, you can't beat the busrides home from track. Hilarious moments, I tell you. Lunches were never boring, as I played basketball everyday with my friends, with the occasional 10 on 10 games. I haven't been able to visit Chaboya lately, but I still miss going there, that's for sure. Colt for life. Shout out to Mr. Marshall! As a graduate from this middle school, I believe this is a great school for its growing students & their experiences. There is amazing teachers and it's help here can take you to become an outstanding student ready for high school. I have fond memories of my time here. The school by itself is beautiful surrounded by the hills and nature in all its glory. As a seventh grader, school here may seem scary at first. Especially since it's not an easy time, becoming a teenager is big deal. What I would like to see is more friendly students and smiles towards others. Because I feel a lot of students here may go through a lot alone and need a strong foundation. read more

Omg I love how all the rumors (the pool, Mr.Claspill, etc.) are going strong! I seriously loved Chaboya! The teachers were great - I feel like my vocabulary has not grown since the intense vocab lessons that I had from Mrs.Bailey's honors English class. I loved my teachers and the environment. I don't remember much though just I should have tried harder but I remember spirit week and how I got my class a free trip to raging waters ^^ good times... I also remember getting on the wrong bus and somehow I got home after riding lots of different buses in the district. I also someone how won a raffle out of the whole school and I only read one book while my best friend probably read every book and tested for it well she won to cause she read so many XD but she couldn't believe I won by chance with that one book LOL.... well i miss this place I always said I would visit again but in the end I never did cause its on top of a mountain... and you can't just visit whenever ... well a great place preteens CHABOYA FOREVER !!!! read more

Yay! More of my schools! Ok so i liked this school alot. I think it is mostly for rich or privialedged kids because its located near the hills of East San Jose. It takes along time to get here by any means. The school is sepereated into 4-5 main building aranged in a circle with a main quad area in the center. I really loved the teachers here. There was never one i hated. Thing is it has been forever sense i have been back but looks about the same. Students are diverse with asians as the largest minority group. There is this one funny biology teacher, i forgot his name but he would always go all out for halloween and dress up as a werewolf or witch doctor and parade through classes at class time and disrupt everyone. It was fun. I also really enjoyed my metal shop teahcer, Mr. Gardi...i think thats how you spell it. It was funny, at the time i was going to the school a couple kids overdosed on Extasy and had to be hauled away in ambulenses. Why is this funny you ask. Because i always thought this area was to good for that kinda stuff, oh well. read more
