This studio was definitely not for me. I've been doing Yoga for the past 10 years off and on but the last 3 years on a weekly if not bi-weekly basis. In that time I've been to numerous studios so I've seen my fair share of differences. I just moved to the area and was seeking a new studio. I had high hopes for this one but it was a serious disappointment. The class size is unacceptable for one instructor. Having 60-75 people under one instructor doesn't work for something like Yoga (in my opinion). There's no way for the instructor to check on people in the class and make sure the positioning is correct. Having the correct posture/positioning is essential to yoga. Vinyasa (their "signature" class) is supposed to be appropriate for all levels. Theirs is not. I went with my sister in law and she is a beginner. The instructor didn't demonstrate the positions as she was going through them so my sister in law was left to look around and follow what other people were doing. I was ok but only because I'm not a beginner. I noticed that she did several moves incorrectly which annoyed me. Yoga is an amazing work out and there she was getting no benefit from the class and there's no way the instructor could see her to issue a correction. The instructor was knowledgeable but lackluster. If she was passionate about yoga it didn't come across. This blew my mind. Typically the instructors I'm under are so clearly passionate and inspiring. I strongly believe in yoga and all the benefits you receive from it but I believe it gets a bad reputation because so many people go to a class and do it incorrectly getting either no benefit at all or worst case hurting themselves. This studio perpetuates that reputation. There are no doubt people who go and never go back because they didn't receive the proper care and attention in the class. To me, this is the worst kind of yoga studio and I'm left to believe they're in it purely for the dollars and not for the enrichment of the students. read more

We were in town visiting from Florida and wanted to take a yoga class to get our day started. The yoga studio was clean and nicely decorated. The instructor was welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed and knew where everything was located. I mainly do vinyasa flow and I thought this class was a bit fast paced the first 30-40 minutes in comparison to what I am used to. It slowed down for the last 30 minutes which was a relief. I really enjoyed the cold towel that they provided at the end of class. Best Om in town for sure! read more

I had tried yoga a couple times in college and didn't consider it "my thing". I like to get the best bang for my buck in my exercise routine so what was for me an hour of awkward stretching seemed to be a waste of time. I struggled to focus and relax - I was so much more centered running or lifting in the gym. My friend urged me to give EPY a shot. I did some research and realized this "Vinyasa" style was a totally different type of yoga and figured it might be a good way to shake up my winter workout routine. There are all types of students.... Men and women, young and old, beginner and teacher.... Each instructor has their own unique style (my personal favorite so far is Meagin - she is very tough but reassuring!) I got a lot out of trying different ones though - some spend a lot of time breaking down moves and others are definitely more advanced. There are basics and community classes, as well. I tried a basics class once and learned a lot but found it to be a bit too slow for my taste. All in all, there's a great energy here and everyone is very approachable. It really is a great workout and I always feel extremely relaxed and peaceful at the end of class. I never felt awkward or intimidated (even when I lost my balance or watched some experienced yogi doing crazy inversions) and I am amazed at the progress I've made with EPY. It seems expensive after you do the new student trial, but from what I can see, this is the most cost effective option in Lancaster (or elsewhere) for Vinyasa. I think it is well worth it. Tips: The room is pretty toasty so I like to bring water and a towel (you will sweat.. a lot!). If you buy a new mat for class, you might want to bring a towel for slippage.. it goes away after the first few uses/wipe downs. I also recommend trying to get there early - it can get really full during prime hours. read more

I love evolution, it is definitely my favorite yoga studio in the area. With all of that being said, I travel weekly for work and have been to a lot of power yoga studios. Evolution is the first studio that does not cool down the class towards the end. The other reason why I gave this 3 stars is because Jeff Hood is an extremely terrible teacher. Never have I met such an unmotivated and boring yoga instructor. I was counting down the minutes until class was over... something I have never done in yoga ever. My arms are still sore from doing Body Pump at Universal ... so a good long stretch is just what I needed and I got it at Evolution Power Yoga this morning ! The studio is very large and well lit by the many large windows which let lots of sunlight in during the day. It's very clean and there are cubbies in the room to put your personal belongings in while you take class. The large room is heated, so remember to bring water with you and a towel, especially if you sweat a lot. So far I have taken classes taught by Jonina and one class taught by the owner, Lisa Taylor. I have always enjoyed classes here and I am always surprised how fast the hour and half classes go by ... I enjoyed Jonina's class today, and I appreciated her taking the time after class to show and explain in more detail a yoga technique that I was having trouble with. Everyone here is pretty friendly and I will be sure to return soon. read more

I've been to numerous group yoga settings and this was a very peaceful one. The instructor was thorough but not overbearing. The singing towards the end was very relaxing. The cool towel at the end was nice. Overall great experience and my wife and I will be back. read more

I took a class with a friend. She has done yoga before but I have not. I do not know how to do poses or what the names are. I thought the beginner class would be a great place to start. I was incorrect. The studio is very clean and everyone was very nice but I spent 80-90% of the class looking around to see what everyone else was doing because there was little to no instruction or example. I was hoping to really like yoga and become a regular but I felt like I didn't learn anything. I don't think I would go back to this particular studio, just because I feel like I wasn't up to par with the rest of the group. If you know what you're doing, this place is probably awesome, just not very friendly for newbies. read more

The teachers are first rate, knowledgeable and encouraging. Each one is truly invested in supporting people in their practice & personal development. The heated classes really help to warm up the muscles & get a good work out. The studio is a Baptiste affiliate studio, which means vinyasa classes are taught in the Baptiste Power Yoga style. Power yoga tends to have a faster led pace so it would probably be a good idea for beginners to let the teacher know you are learning (or clueless - which is ok!!) before class starts. They're there to guide. It's always nice when there's an extra teacher in class to help assist, especially during the busy early morning or after work classes. The space is beautifully kept, clean, and open. The Evolution community as a whole, from the teachers to the Karmi support staff to the folks who come in to practice, all are welcoming, supportive, & friendly. I love this studio. I have been a member for 2 years now and I am so happy I made the decision to go! I'm a hairstylist and have a lot of back and neck pain. Yoga has really helped my body in so many aspects .. Really love how it clears my head and reduces my anxiety. I truly think yoga has made me a better person! When I first joined evolution I really enjoyed the classes but it is getting extremely crowded. I am aware that most yoga rooms are on the smaller side, but I do not want to be rubbing elbows with someone that is sweating and hasn't applied deodorant since 1996. While the classes are a bit pricey, the studio is clean and inviting & and the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. I was completely new to yoga and began taking the basics classes, which were great. The pace was perfect, and the instructors were great at breaking down each pose and movement to show you proper form and alignment. While it was a basics class, I always left feeling like I had a good workout. After a few weeks of basics, I started taking the Saturday community class to try something more advanced. Those classes were great as well & although I couldn't always do all the more advanced poses, I never felt out of place or intimidated because the instructors always suggested alternative, more basic poses. I would highly recommend taking classes here - the one-month new membership price is a really great deal to try out all their classes and instructors to see what/who you like. read more
