This gym is great! Im relatively new to gymgoing, and as far as i can tell, this gym has it all. The staff are super friendly, and theyre not afraid to give pointers if needed. The mens locker room is clean and tidy, and the gym itself is clean as well. I have no conplaints about this place. Good pricing options depending on your needs. Well worth seeing for yourself. Im not sure where those negative reviews were coming from, but if they were true, the place has changed and adapted to make itself better for its clients, and i applaud that. read more

I have been a member of LA Fitness for years in Florida. A lot of the gyms have been remodeled and been a lot better. Lancaster PA's LA Fitness had pleasant staff at the front. I went during the busiest time and still had enough room and equipment to get through my workout. Everyone seemed to be cleaning their machines after each use. The atmosphere was great. They do have swimming pool and a basketball court as well as a huge racketball court. Overall I would recommend this gym. The prices are very affordable now. read more

Absolutely horrible gym. Cleanliness is NOT this gym's priority, and hasn't been for the last 2 years. My buddies and I go here because there's no other reasonably priced, quality gyms in the area. This LA Fitness is only focused on the bottom line and keeping members. If there's something you need... don't expect the staff to help. If you live in the Lancaster area... Terrible management! Brandon the new manager that has no idea what he was doing came and pulled me off the floor in the middle of my workout demanding I follow him because "there was something wrong with my account". I'm thinking you could let me finish my workout and come see you when I'm done but ok. I go to the front desk and he tells me that I don't have an active account...... After 5 months renewing my account (I renew for 3 years in advance and have been going to this gym in some form since it was called jack lalane 23 years ago). I say yes I renewed at the Pottstown location for three years under the eSporta membership and they can help him. He says he can see what they do (while not actually looking) and I don't have an account and do I have a financial record to prove I paid for it. I say . Yea let me see if it goes back that far. That was 5 or 6 months ago. So I pull it up on my credit card statement and hand it to him. And this idiot starts scrolling through my whole credit card history. I put my hand out and say you don't need to look through all of that. He gives the phone back. I say ok so we're good? He says no you don't have an account here. I say ok well, give them a call or if he messed up the membership can you fix it? He says there's no membership. I say yea you've said that. But you asked for a record and I showed you. He said well can I see your phone? I said no you can't look through my credit card information, tell me what you need and I can show you. He said that's a screen shot I can't use that. I said..... That's my monthly statement which you just looked through... Without permission. He said no that's a screen shot. Can I see your credit card? Uhhhhhh no in not giving you my credit card, not to mention it expired 3 months ago. He said well you have to go get a statement from your bank. At this point I lost my patience and started lighting him up. No! It's not a bank account it's a credit card. I just showed you a statement, the only statement they give me. And no I'm not leaving unless you refund my $560 that I just proved to you I paid. I paid 3 years up front to not be harassed. He said said well, you've been reached out to multiple times. I said no. No I haven't. I've been coming here for the last 5 months and the only person harassing me is YOU. now I've laid you for a service. I've proven I've paid it. So you sit there and figure out how to use a computer and either find the membership. Or find the record of payment from that day and add it in. At that point he got Dustin the area manager to "set me straight". I said I've been standing here serving with you for 35 minutes and he's been here the whole time????? Go get him. Now! Dustin comes over. I show him my statement. He pulls me over and find my account in 5 minutes by just searching for the record. Apologizes for Brandon's idiocy and incompetence and offers me a t-shirt. I thank him for taking care of it but what I'd really like it's for my 40 minutes back and to teach his manager how to use a computer and maybe learn some customer service. Don't deal with Brandon, don't work with him. He's an idiot and most of all and I mean seriously, never ever ever give him money. He'll tell you he doesn't believe you. Horrible experience there starting day 1! Went for training only to be never have one available then they hire a new trainer who was actually great. So I thought it was going to work. Met the training manager and he was belittling and degrading. Complained to corporate about him and couldn't get out of my contract. He sends me a text message and I respond with my feelings about our conversation so he proceeds to harass me by calling my phone and hanging up! The manager on duty around 6:30/7 pm tonight (1/14/20) was EXTREMLY rude and unprofessional! So much that I thought about canceling my standing membership with LA Fitness that I've had for over 3 years (and started in a different county). I could not believe the experience I had trying to bring a potential new member into this gym! This gym continuously displays free week trial passes in the locker room. I took one in the case I ever knew someone interested in checking out a yoga class as I am a huge yoga activist and attend yoga class at this gym at least once a week. (Thanks for your kindness Andrea! You're the only reason this review gets one star although you personally deserve 5). Anyway, I ended up forgeting the free trail pass at home, but was already at the gym with the guest when I noticed. Because they have these free passes just laying around the entire gym, I assumed itd be no problem at all! I guessed wrong and am so displeased with the way "the manager" as she called herself conducted herself! When questioning the free trail passes displayed all over the locker rooms she says "we should just put a sign that says 'LA fitness free' " and charged my guest $15! If she's the manager I'm wondering how she wssnt able to find another way for my guest to give the gym a try especially after getting home to google "free LA Fitness trail" to find a link to a free trial (found below). Hopefully the manager can review it and make better recommendations to those attempting to find a place to workout. That place is a complete robbery! It seems like everything they want to do is to take money from you. I signed up for personal training which costs a huge amount of money, and I've been talked into that program. I was told I can cancel easily and any time. I also warned manager that I will be moving out in two months. He told me that that's fine and the cancelation is nice and easy. Now they tell me complete opposite! They tell me I can't leave untill I provide munch of supporting documents. Also my coach doesn't even bother to schedule with me. They keep throwing me all over the place. Guys the way this folks do business is awful. They lie a lot, it's expensive, and they make sure to take as much money from you as possible. I joined this gym completely new to the Lancaster area and really regret it. The gym's outdated cardio machines creak with every movement and all of them seem to have rust and are constantly dirty. After belonging 4 months at this point I've only recently started to see employees start to clean the equipment. Additionally I signed up for a personal training program and was pressured into it. My trainer is consistently saying how he has no time and is so over worked. I feel bad booking him! I see all of the trainers doing the exact same workouts with their clients, no personalization based on your body and your goals. read more

The jacuzzi has not worked for a year. The staff appears to accept it with no intention of having the problem fixed. To quote their front desk person "well, people don't complain about it so I have no idea when it will be fixed". Most of the other equipment is functional and the place is always clean. One day at lunch we decided to take the tour of this place and we really werent all that impressed. The staff was not helpful or all that friendly, the equipment was not in practical positions and the people working out there seemed snotty. on the plus side, they have a pool, a couple of racquetball courts and they have a no kids policy. read more

it is really expensive for what they have and trying to cancel your membership is terrible. You have to show up on the manager's hours, which means 9-5 Monday-Friday. You can't go online, you can't call, it is either you go in person or have to mail in a form that you get off their website, somehow. No idea where it is on their website mind you. Went in to check the place out , the intent was to get a membership in a couple weeks but I wanted to make sure they had the equipment I needed . Seemed like a decent gym not reliant on smith machines like planet fitness and dumbbell weight was much higher than planet fitness as well. Spoke with the sales manager who really did try to give the hard sell but that's normal for most gyms of this nature. I explained that I just wanted to check it out and after talking to the staff I was planning (and I told them this) to join in a couple weeks to get initial finances in order because they have an initiation fee of $99.00 then you pay first and last month dues then 3 months in to the agreement you have another annual fee that is tacked on. Why an annual fee before a year is beyond me but it is what it is and I use my current gym membership daily. They tried to get me to split pay so to speak but that's not how I handle finances if I can afford to pay out of my expendable income I do, but money that's not allotted for that isn't touched. In other words can't afford to pay for it outright wait till you can. I get a follow up communication a few days later asking if I was still interested, I explained I was and it would be a couple weeks. Later that week I get a call from them and they say the rates are going up the following day and in order for me to get the current rates I would need to get in that day and sign up. Originally I thought well just do it then bite the bullet and put it on the card. It then dawned on me why would they all of a sudden raise the rates and how convenient that was as they were really pushing hard for this enrollment (which if they had left it alone they would have gotten ironically enough). And really how the hell would you be able to explain that rates didn't go up after you tried to tell me they would be going up the next day? I did a little research and then decided I wasn't going to go in and if the rates increased my bad I would have to pay. I also followed up with their corporate office regarding the rate increase the next day. Turns out now it's been 4 days since the supposed rate hike and the corporate office had no info and the Lancaster website pricing hasn't changed either. Bottom line this was a shady tactic to get me in sooner, That being said I decided I won't be joining now because if that's how they handle you as a potential new member then how ethical are they going to handle your payments and such. It also left me with a bad taste in my mouth and I couldn't go in there and look at that person without knowing they tried to trick me into signing up early. So now I'm left with one choice which is Universal athletic club as golds is now gone in the area and planet fitness just doesn't have the level of weight and equipment I now need to improve (I am currently a planet fitness member not a bad place just not allowing me to reach my full potential). Guess I'll be paying for Universal , it costs more but they didn't try to BS me and lie about rates going up in an effort to try to force me to sign up sooner than I was ready. (two weeks is all they needed to wait and while I get not everyone does come back to sign up I that was the plan hence the review). As of today rates are still the same read more

I tried to have a guest use the pass this week and the person at the front desk said that he had to go through a sale pitch and sign up for an trial offer. i have been a member for 3 years now, and am writing this the day i am finally cancelling my membership. if you are thinking of joining please red this long review of why you shouldnt. lets start with the first thing you notice walking in: the music. it is too loud even with people for headphones, and there is no way to tune it out. one of my best experiences at this gym was the day the system froze so it wasnt playing. it is the same 20 songs on repeat daily. stick around for more than an hour and youll hear the same songs twice. the only break you get from the music is every ten minutes when they run the same 30 second selena gomez-pantene ad. now onto the equipment. there are two squat racks, one power cage (which somehow breaks every other month), three flat benches, two incline benches, and one decline bench. so you would think there would be 9 power bars? nope, only 7, so two cant be used. also there are three smith machines, but its guarenteed one is broken. there is no space for people to deadlift, so it forces people to use a squat rack or the cage. while the machine selection is above average, goodluck finding equipment that isnt broken. and if it does break, it takes two months to fix it. guarenteed. the free weights are literally falling apart, as the rubber coating is so old its ripping off. cleanliness? none existant. the floor is mopped every couple days. around anything that touches the floor, there is a good inch of dirt and grime from all the years of not even attempting to clean near it. equipment is rusty (from i assume sweat). members regularly spit into the water fountins, so youll find someone mucus dried to the sides. something (i dont want to know what) also causes some to regularly clog and it is not adressed for another week or two. also, be ready to be bugged about getting other to join. the staff regularly walks around with one month free trials to give to your freinds to try to sucker them into the same experience. dont look to the locker room for any relief. the locker room is supposedly closes early at night for i assume cleaning, but whoever is doing it needs to be fired. i go in the morning before work, and there is no evidence it has been cleaned. the carpet is growing something and is stained. the showers? so gross i stopped using them and stop at home before work. you name it, youll find it im them: band aids, nasty paper towels, miscellaneous stains. you think someone would walk through and check and make an effort, but no. not to mention one shower head has been broken for a good couple months now. read more

The Gym is Ok. Not much classes. Regular machines and equipments. I was duped into signing a contract for personal training. I was told I can cancel it anytime and never told about a 1 year contract. They made me sign in an electronic device - saying it is for the payment. Turns out they used that electronic signature everywhere - for all contracts and other papers. I was not even able to cancel my regular membership. I had to mail cancellation requests to their LA office twice. Numerous calls and no response from rude people both in the local office and the main office. And since they charge first and last month (membership as well as training) lost $800!!! Unless you want to get ripped of your money for the useless crap. Avoid! There are other/more fun/truthful clubs nearby. read more

In high school I went to Universal Athletic with my parents. I love that place, but I thought for the summer, while home from college I would give someplace else a try. Over Easter break I thought I would use the "3 Day Pass" they offered and check out LA Fitness. The first day arrived I got a tour of the place and then was sat down and talked to about signing up. It caught me off guard since two people were with me being very pushy. I had to sign up that day or I couldn't receive the offer, which would go up and would no longer be worth it. My summer plans weren't even set in stone and I didn't want to commit, but I signed up anyway. I thought about it after and realized I needed to cancel immediately. Although I just wanted to workout when I returned the next day, they were back at me trying to sell the personal trainer program. While I admit it was my fault for not being standing my ground against the pushy, high-pressure sales tactics, I still think there was a line of respect that was crossed. If you decide to join LA Fitness because it is conveniently located for you or whatever, then go there knowing what you want. Otherwise don't join and forget about the "Free passes" they give out. It's not worth the hassle. I got a workout running away from the place. read more

This place has a good location, lots of space inside, and decent equipment. It could be a really good place to work out if they could fix one easily fixable problem: TURN! DOWN! THE! MUSIC! How can a place claim to take an interest in their members health and then CRANK THE MUSIC SO LOUD? Music this loud causes permanent hearing loss, high blood pressure, increased heart rate, etc. And if you think the music is loud you have heard nothing yet. After each song they play an LA Fitness commercial that is even louder than the music. If all you want to do is use cardio equipment, this place is o.k. because they only crank up the music so loud in the free weight area. Other areas of the gym are still loud but tolerable. I tried it for a few workouts on a trial pass but had to go back to Golds because I could not stand the volume. read more

I signed up for the gym and training sessions because they told me I would not exercise unless I had a trainer to motivate me and hold me accountable. I knew my commitment level was low. The manager gave me a huge sales pitch about their excellent motivational skills. They told me (promised me) that they would hold me accountable. "That is what we do", they told me. They wrote their cell phone numbers in my training book. (One problem: only the manager is still there.) The first trainer was terrible. When I could not lift a weight load he had placed on the machine (or even move it 1/4"), I asked him to take off 5 pounds, he told me to stop wining and just do the work. He repeated himself several times. The next trainer was a very nice guy and seemed to be more professional and knowledgeable, but he left to work at another local gym. The third trainer was much like the first, and very distracted when he was with me. No trainer EVER called me to schedule an appointment or hold me accountable. No one ever called me to see when I was coming back. The stupid and sad thing is, I signed up for THREE years. What a waste of money. My fault. read more

I've been going to my gym for a long time and decided to switch up my routine and check out other gyms. This is without a doubt my least favorite gym in Lancaster. This place is dirty. The weight rack looks like it hasn't been wiped down in months and there is rust on the most equipment in the back right quadrant. There was trash on the floor in various places (paper towels, Gatorade lid, and a plastic bag). The members did not seem to have a sense of ownership or community. As I gave myself a tour, the first thing I encountered were middle aged men standing outside the racquetball court swearing like sailors. So I felt uncomfortable right off the bat. As I started to work out, I had someone steal the bench I was using the moment I got up to rack the weights I used for that set. Members also would stand in front of weights (not just in front of the mirrors like most people do), blocking access to them. While there were only 3-4 other people in that area, I still had to wait for Dumbbells because ALL of the members there had 2 pairs of unused weights around them because who wants to walk all the way back to the rack to put weights away? The only redeeming qualities about this gym were that the staff was pleasant and there is a pool. read more

I have belonged to this gym since 2005 when it was built. I pay my money every month for a class called Latin Heat. This class is held 3 nights a week. This is the best class in town. This is the only reason I go to this gym. I can get training at a professional gym, and I do. I can get workout equipment at another gym, and pay less. I feel this class is worth every penny I pay for the month. However, during this holiday season they decided to cancel 3 of these classes for reasons that make no sense. People were showing up to take the class, and it was not happening. Since this class is what I pay for, I feel it is only fair we should be refunded for the classes we could not take, due to them cancelling them! The management at this gym does not care what the clients want. They make up whatever they decide is best. If it was not for Latin Heat, I would not belong to this gym! read more

I Love L.A. Fitness. I love the layout of the machines and the separate class space with mirrors, the sauna, and pool. I am happy that the whole place is clean, and I've been going there for years (except for intervals of two surgeries). People are polite but mind their own business; no one shows off; no one tries to impress anyone else, no one is loud or fools around. L.A. Fitness is a place of peace in which I can strive to improve my physical state. Oh -- and some of the trainers are really, really good, too. Staff members are friendly and helpful. L.A. It's an okay gym, if your looking to lift weights don't go in the afternoon there will be about thirty people around every piece of equipment, some just standing there talking and if you ask to use it they say I'm on it and then quickly not out a couple reps then go back to bull shitting. This happens all over, the only place that has empty spots is cardio equipment, although in the morning from 5 am - 7 am, and evening from 6- 10 everyone is usually home and you can get some real workouts in. I'm not interested in personal trainers from here, or any commercial gym because they real don't have the information I need. read more

The other night a friend of mine was working out with a friend of hers and was treated as if they were trying to steal "LA's" business by "training together and it was against their rules". Which by the looks of the other reviews they do not get business anyway. These unprofessional girls (I call them girls because they obviously acted like it) went and told a friend of theirs and that friend came to my friend and said "I'll teach you kick boxing in the parking lot" yeah well I say that's a threat. If you are deciding to check out la fitness in york PA, I would be very careful if you are going to join. I have recently joined because i was impressed about the equipment they have and the space. My impression slowly went down the drain when my wallet got stolen from my locker, which by my mistake i did not have a lock on it. I was very angry, so I have learned not to keep my wallet in my locker anymore. A few weeks went by and my whole gym bag got stolen as also!! That did it i canceled my membership!! read more

Convenient location and friendly staff. Would like for them to have an actual circuit setup for weight training. They have a lot of cardio equipment, however, many pieces could use upgrading. The pool and hot tub area are nice and well kept. I especially like the dry cedar sauna. Membership prices are okay. They should expand the kid's club hours to Sundays though. Other members keep to themselves for the most part, and I get to do my own thing without feeling uncomfortable during my workouts. Kids cannot use the pool area, which is nice for the adults, but there should be some family hours for use of the pool area. read more
