I bought a groupon back in February to try out Crossfit. I was very nervous at first, but Crossfit quickly became my new obsession! Coach Chris and Sebastian are wonderful. The workouts are HARD but you leave feeling amazing, plus they're super fun! The space is very clean and I love being able to track our progress on their computer! The best part about CF manta ray is the community! I have made so many amazing friends who are so motivating and encouraging. I am SO happy to workout everyday at this box. I've been an athlete my entire life yet I have never felt so in tuned with my body as I have being here at CMR. I started out with the 6 week challenge and I was a little nervous since I stopped being active for a few years and really gained a lot of weight. I've always played sports and done HIIT training but nothing compared to CF. I came in with an open mind and really took it all in. Sebastian and Tommy really took their time teaching us the foundations of CF throughout the 6 weeks and starting off our workouts with a PVC pipe. They make sure that you understand the movements fully before you move onto weights. I've finished my 6 weeks and have been in regular classes for a little over a month. This box is truly a family. Everyone welcomes you with open arms and genuinely cares about you. All the coaches are super knowledgeable and really take their time studying your movements and making corrections if needed or adjusting the workout to your needs. My favorite thing about this box is that they focus on fundamentals and teach all athletes to listen to their bodies. It's not about who can finish the WOD first or lift the most weight. Everyone is humble and there are all walks of life that come thru the doors. I'm getting stronger everyday with the help of the coaches teaching and pushing me and with the encouragement from the fellow athletes. There is something about Crossfit Manta Ray that makes it different from other boxes: because of the two owners' experience in physical therapy, they are uniquely able to work with people who have physical limitations, like the elderly or the obese. I know one of their clients who benefits from this extra assistance, and I've never seen her this excited or encouraged to work out - it's truly amazing. Visiting from a different state, I decided to drop in at Manta Ray. I'm a student, and they negotiated an extremely reasonable price with me for the week. Their format is one that I think more boxes ought to adopt: mobility (5m), strength (20m), metcon (20m), mobility (5m). There is simply no better way get more out of an hour of working out. If you've heard about crossfit but are afraid to try it for some reason, then give Manta Ray a try. Lastly, I don't want to give the impression that Manta Ray doesn't make sense for advanced athletes - their smart approach to crossfit should appeal to everyone. read more

I'm pretty skeptical of gym owners and Group-Ons, but this was really one of the best fitness decisions I've ever made other than playing high school sports. The two young and ambitious owners/coaches are very well educated, not only in the sport, but also in body science and nutrition. There are members here from all demographics: young, old, underweight, overweight, fit, and out of shape... But when in a class, everyone works at their own personal pace only competing with themselves. The classes are entertaining, energetic, and most of all, you walk out the front door feeling so accomplished. Bottom note is the sport is for everyone from elite athletes to people who feel overweight or completely unfit, and the trainers are friendly and educated professionals, who will know you on first name basis. The only way to fail here is by not having a strong will to succeed. read more

I've always been a bit skeptical about Crossfit in general let alone starting with a Groupon to try it out but I figured it was my best way of seeing what it was all about for a really great deal. You'll begin in the On Ramp classes at first to master the moves and understand what each move is supposed to be done like and with proper form using no weight. I was immediately impressed with this technique and have since actually corrected moves I had previously been doing wrong for many years in the gym and not known it. 3 weeks into my Groupon I already had noticed a difference in my strength, fitness and body and couldn't believe it. I've accomplished things I never thought possible thanks to the help and support all the coaches here showed me. I was hooked after 3 weeks, graduated to the main box shortly after and have never looked back. I've made great friends and I always look forward to my workouts, which are at 5:30am :) I've never been a morning person but I'm truly motivated to get up and workout, starts my day off right! You won't regret giving this gym a shot, it's the best decision I've ever made and I've never been in better shape. They even do fun events and outdoor WODs & competitions pretty often which I absolutely love. They even have Crossfit kids which I think is awesome! P.S - the negative reviews below appear to be from truly negative people, you'd really have to be a bad person to get kicked out of this gym. Show up ready to sweat and have a good time! read more

When I started at Manta Ray there were no On Ramp classes to learn proper form, etc. I was thrown in with everyone old and new to crossfit but I stuck with it! I don't agree with anyone who says that the coaches don't help or don't care! I was welcomed and encouraged and when I signed my 15 year old up for On Ramp all summer he, too, was welcomed, taught the proper way and used weight! My almost two years here have been great and I tell everyone about it. Best coaches and a great family! read more

Spent 1 year here learning CrossFit and getting in shape. While initial time spent here was great, focus on technique and coaching declined over the last few months. Tutorials and YouTube helped with new programs and techniques. While the programming here was fine, the coaching fell off. My mother in law was also here for a year and they paid very little attention to her... Saying she did a good job when her technique was off. The coaches here play favorites and pay attention to those they like most. In he end we were told to leave because we disrupted warm ups and talked bad about them. This is the first time I talked bad but it is warranted. The warm ups were short... Never more then 5 minutes. Programming was fine for most however I do prefer more lifting but that is why I bought my own equipment and supplemented my workout. Last thing would be they are unprofessional and young and do not know how to talk to people. read more

I knew a lifestyle change was needed but I had neglected myself for so long I didn't know where to start. Orientation was July 3, 2014 and life has changed quite a bit since then. I have gotten off of the couch, I have shown up and I have pushed myself like never before. I have lost 20 lbs and almost 4 inches off my waist in a little over a month but the scale doesn't tell half of the story. This awakening has made me a better me. I am a better husband, a better father and a better professional because I have more energy, more focus, more drive, more strength and more discipline than I have had in years. Jessica and I are so blessed to have joined such a great group of people, a community, that challenge themselves daily and make us want to be better versions of our selves and for that, thank you. Crossfit Manta Ray is a great box for men, women, and children of all ages from beginners to experts and competitors. The coaches are extremely knowledgeable and conscientious of preparation for the workouts. Stretching is a priority before and after every WOD. They met you where you were at with your abilities and guided you towards your goals. They were my home away from home and when I moved to Florida, I was looking for that same family type feel. I found a Groupon after checking reviews of local boxes and was pleased with the intro "On Ramp" progression that Crossfit Manta Ray provided. Coach Chris and Coach Sebastian made sure your form was correct and that you understood the basic movements. When they felt you were ready, they move you over to the main classes. This move can be intimidating at any box, but you get out of it what you put in. Don't be afraid to ask questions if you are unsure of the movements (everyone does!). Crossfit manta ray is definitely a quality box. They have excellent programming and top notch coaches. The owners make a genuine effort to ensure you receive a quality experience EVERY time you walk through their doors. The members are down to earth, love to wod together and often have social time outside of the box together. There is no nonsense, gossip or negativity at this box. It's a big family. Everyone of all skill levels are welcome. I've been a cross-fitter for 3 years and competitive for 2 at another place. Please do not try this facility if you haven't done crossfit before. The coaches, while they have good intentions, are horrible at teaching proper form and technique. Nobody gets corrected if they are doing movements wrong, and with the weight they use at crossfit injuries are bound to happen. There is no guidance or suggestion made by the coaches for modifications. It's sad that the newcomers are exposed to this box and don't know any better. They also don't have enough equipment to do a huge variety of workouts or allow for appropriate scaling of workouts. They've got newcomers doing wall balls with the same weight as experienced athletes. What that results in is poor form, which can't be helped by the person since there isn't a lighter ball to throw. They've got groupon deals going all the time but trust me, you get what you pay for. Before you commit to one place, I urge any of you to try a few other crossfit classes elsewhere to see that there really is a difference. read more
