We waited for a bit to write this review as we were hoping they would make things right. Unfortunately we have had no response from them so wanted to share our experience. When we were given the quote it was for $145 an hour with no mention of any "additional fees". When the gentleman came to do the job he was a pleasure to work with and did a great job!! We have no complaints on that part. The problem came when the bill was received and it was hundreds more than what we had anticipated. When discussing with the owner this is what we were told. Plumber is $150 an hour not $145. There was an additional $45 and hour for a young man to pick up concrete and collect tools. We had to pay for drive time to and from the house. There was a jackhammer fee. And we had to pay for them to clean out the truck . Which consisted of half a barrel of concrete and about 10 feet of pipe. We feel that should have been shared when given the quote, not after the fact. I suggest you ask about these fees before confirming an appointment. read more

I have used Ewert plumbing for several home projects over several years. I have been very pleased with their service. I will no longer use their services ever again. The Plummer had to return days later to finish a basement shower and I asked to find out how much will I owe once the job was complete? The price quoted was less the half of my total invoice. Just as you told me, the racial disrespect I experienced from Ann was "not worth you talking about". No one at this company has taken accountability nor offered any form of apology for the racial insult I received. Skip (claimed owner) was extremely rude to my husband and refused to speak about him about the situation. The responds provided to my original review/complaint remains ingenuine and unsympathetic for the hurt your office counterpart caused. The responds we received was another way of pouring salt into an open womb. I find it very disrespectful of you to not even attempt to address the racial issue at hand. It is unacceptable of your business to take no accountability nor offer an apology for this encounter. Furthermore, the tone of your reply remains disrespectful. I recall quite well what you stated on the phone, therefore, starting your responds with "as stated on the phone" is it completely unnecessary. I also recollect what you "stated on the phone" the first time I called to inquire about the drive time charge. You then "stated on the phone" that the charge was included in the price quote you gave. I am also very well aware of "what you previously explained" concerning said price quote. However, this explanation was not given before my husband and I agreed to book your company's services. I called the office the business day after our service and inquired about travel fee the plumber mentioned and the office manager, Amy, stated the travel fee was included in the hourly rate (which turned out not to be true. It was in addition to the service fees) however she could not tell me what my total was because the plumber had not yet dropped off our ticket from the services. Weeks later, we receive a bill in the mail that was about $120 more than what we were expecting. I called the office to ask for clarity and Ann answered the phone. She asked me if my name was on the invoice, I answered "No. The bill is in my husband's name", she then replied "O, what's your husband's name, Tyron?" I said "excuse me, and why would assume that's my husband name?" she refused to answer and just kept asking "well, what's his name then?" My husband name is SKYLER! Where she pulled Tyrone from, I don't know but I felt all the discrimination and racism through this encounter. At this point she transferred me to Amy (the office manager) I explain to Amy what my frustrations were and the racial disrespect Ann displayed and Amy said to me "I'm not going to discuss that with you, it's not even worth me talking about". I tried to respond to her but could not complete a statement because she continued to over talk me by yelling "that's not worth me talking about! That's not worth me talking about!" I have never felt so disrespected by a company I was paying hundreds of dollars to for a service. My husband then called to speak with the owner about the situation, I believe his name was Skip. Mr. Skip was even worst then his office workers. He told my husband that he refused to speak with him about a conversation that he was not there for. He ended the conversation by threating my husband with the statement "We'll see you in court". Given our bill is paid in full, I'm not sure what court would be for. All of this is after the plumber showed up almost 2 hours late, which was fine, we understand that calls can be delayed. However, he was very visibly irritated and rude. So much so we almost denied the Service. He stepped out to his truck and came back in moments later and apologized for his behavior and explained his day had been rough and that the office was terrible to work with communication and misinformed him about the service we were getting. So, we moved on with the services. After the services, he was not comfortable taking payment because our quote that the office gave was not accurate because they did not include the travel fee. I was out of town and scheduled an estimate to remove a PVC pipe to make room for other work in my basement. They did the work without giving an estimate and then sent a $500 bill, 3 months later. Yes, $500 for a PVC pipe that's accessible. And yes, it took 3 MONTHS to send an invoice. I was told it was my fault because I didn't specifically ask for an estimator (even though I did ask for an estimate). Avoid at all costs if you don't like writing blank checks. read more

We had an outdoor spicket installed by Ewert a few years ago. When the service person was installing it, my husband inquired how much it was going to cost us. His answer was "the office will bill you". When we finally got the bill in November, (it was installed in early June) I read the "fine print" at the bottom of the page. 1.5% finance charge, equivalent to 18% annually, is added on balances over 30 days. Mastercard & Visa accepted. (4% service charge added). The first bill had a charge for $22.57 finance charge! Being on a fixed income I paid what I could at the time. One year of invoices consisted of only 4 being sent. Who the hell is doing their billing? I looked up my rights as to what could be done. They stated that always put the original amount due after that check was written. I also sent them a copy of the information. All I heard was crickets. So, when I got an invoice I always put the balance due on the memo of the check. Last month when I sent the final check, paying all of the balance off. And at the bottom of the check, I wrote in large red letters, I wrote "BALANCE PAID IN FULL" Now this in the end of May, the invoice was dated 04/01/2024. I get yet another bill for $312.46, which is all interest!. I know my rights. The final check that I sent them has been cashed and the matter is over. I know my rights. If i could have left less than a 1 star I would have. At least the work was done. read more

While closing on my first home, the previous owner hired Ewert to come jet the pipes clean of roots that were found in the pipes. This work was completed about a week before closing. No one was living in the home the year prior to closing. When i moved in, after about a week i noticed water in the basement, i initially had thought it was rain water but under further examination i realized it was shit water leaking from the sewage pipe which is just behind that little panel in picture one. Our outside spicket needed to be replaced. The replaced the pipe that was inside and the spicket outside. We closed up the wall and 3 months later our house flooded ruining our wood floors. The pipe on the inside they replaced was leaking from bad welds. Will never use this company again. We are out at least 4 thousand dollars in repairs from their shoddy work. read more

I decided to call a professional to install a new garbage disposal. I was referred to Ewert by a good friend, he was happy with his experiences. I decided to try them out even though I had never heard of the company. When I called to inquire about pricing, I was advised I would need to pay for the material (garbage disposal and any extra parts) or I could provide the garbage disposal but I would be charged if additional material was needed. Labor is $125 per hour and $10 gas fee to drive to my home since gasoline is expensive. I was told that I should get a call the day of my appointment between 8-10 am. The day of my appointment, I get a call from Justin at 9:39 am to confirm my address since he couldn't find it. It turned out the company had the wrong house number. He arrived to my home a few minutes later.  After 20 minutes of assessing the situation, before he could start the installation process, he had to get an extra part due to the older pipe connection under the sink. He had to drive to the warehouse to get the part since he normally doesn't carry that type of part in his truck.  He returned 50 minutes later to my home with the new part.  The installation took about 50 minutes, he left my home at 11:40 am.  I was keeping track of his arrival and departure times.  The workmanship is good and the disposal is working great.  Justin was friendly and explained the reason the new part was needed to fix the issue. 9:39 - arrived per my note/phone records 10:00 - drove to warehouse 10:50 - returned to install disposal 11:40 - left my home = 2 hours total (minus 50 min drive time) A week later, I receive the invoice in the mail and I was shocked to see the total. Here is a breakdown: $247.49 (material) $312.50 (labor) $21.88 (taxes) =$581.87 I thought there must have been a typo since I was charged $312.50 for labor when Justin was at my home for 1 hour and 15 minute tops. I called immediately (Friday) to get clarification on the labor fee. The lady that answered the phone could not give me an exact breakdown so I was transferred to the owner. He advised, I got charged when Justin had to drive to the warehouse, this is considered "labor". I was confused because no one explained "drive time" is considered "labor" nor is this explained in the website. I disagree with this thought process. Even if drive time is considered labor, according to my notes, it took Justin 2 hours to finish the job (including drive time), this means labor should be at $250 (2 hrs x $125 labor fee) not $312.50. This still does not make sense. The owner advised, he'd have Justin call the next business day to explain. When Justin returned my call (Monday), he advised the clock started running when he began his drive to my home, this is normal protocol unless it's long distance such as Iowa City (I live in Quad Cities).  In my case, he had to stop to get the garbage disposal before arriving to my home therefore I was charged labor for this time.   Plus, when he drove to get the part, it's considered "labor".  He had to stop at several different places before he found the needed part, this is the reason it took 50 minutes to get the part and return to my home. Apparently, drive time is considered "labor" the reason the labor fee is high. Drive time to my home and to get parts is NOT labor, it's "drive time" and should be listed as drive time on the invoice versus "labor". When I originally called to make the appointment, the receptionist was eager to mention the $10 gasoline charge but she failed to explain drive time is considered "labor" ($125 per hour). My definition of labor is hard physical work such as installing a garabage disposal only. The lack of transparency is dishonest and there is much needed room for improvement.  Justin was going to follw up with me. I will update the review once I have hear back. ****UPDATE**** 5/18--Skippy from EWERT plumbing called to advise they will decrease the bill by $100 only. She was able to answer questions and when she didn't know something she quickly got back to me with the answer. I was also able to get a very fast estimate over the phone after sending her pictures of our problem. Then Bryan was on time polite, efficient and even cleaned up afterwards! I would never recommend this company to anyone. They are terribly behind on their billing and won't send you a first bill for a few months, attach late fees, and say that they already sent bills prior when they did not. I tried to speak to the owner about what happened and they did not call me or my husband back. The lady at the front desk is rude, disrespectful, and was not understanding about the concerns we had. We explained we did not receive any bills for the work we had done and she blamed me for not reaching out for them to send our bills. Um, excuse me but that's not how a company works! Trying to blame a customer for a company's irresponsibility and laziness is just wrong and is never okay. My water heater went out on Thanksgiving Day. Knowing that Thanksgiving was a holiday and it would cost double...I waited until the next day to call. Brian came out, lit the heater , came upstairs and said " Well I lit the pilot but I cannot guarantee it will stay lit." He was there no longer than 20-25 mins.He told me Whirlpool parts are hard to get and if I needed a part it would take 4-6 weeks and maybe more!!He told me my best bet would be to get a new heater (possible cost $1600) I googled a few things and called another plumber to perhaps clean some parts of the heater. The other plumbing company came out the next day...spent a good deal of time showing me some things and what he was going to do. He was at my home maybe an hour....my bill was $115. I got the bill from Ewert Plumbing..$416.34!! I was SHOCKED!! I called Ewert and spoke with Amy. She went over the bill: Double time for a holiday..new flame sensor:$81.96..tax!! Apparently the day after Thanksgiving is a holiday for them...no where on their site do they have what days are holidays for them.I explained to Amy that there is no way a new part was put on. Why wouldn't the service man told me he was putting a new part on and for my approval and cost? He never went out to his truck to get a part..he said he had it on his truck. ODD he would have a Whirlpool part on his truck when he told me Whirlpool parts were hard to get! I told Amy that he was there about 20-25 min. and I saw him get no part. I said I wanted to see my old part and why wouldn't I have seen the old part. She said she spoke with Brian and Brian said he did put the part on and he had it on his truck. Amy said she has to take his word. I told Amy I will NEVER use this company again and I apologized to her personally for being so upset...it was not her fault. She was very patient and very professional. Advice to the company: Post your holiday days that prices on your website. Make sure your service people show the customer a part that they are taking off or putting on. Explain in detail what the work they are going to do. I won't recommend this company to anyone again. Long story short I was jerked around for a month and a half by lynch and the day came start they left and never came back after cutting holes in my bathroom and ceiling. Same day I went to ewert plumbing and had them out the same day for estimate. not only was it cheaper they were there by the next week and had it done in 2 days. Had to rework all the drainage and remover lead piping after my tub leaked into my first floor entryway. I would go back again defiantly. read more

UPDATE: 8/2/2021 going to upgrade another star because Ewert did modify the bill to what I feel was reasonable. ORIGINAL: The bill and it was 40% higher than quoted. When I asked why it was "because they had to use a larger piece of equipment". I watched the whole time and basically it was a hand held Snap On drill connected to a coiled snake a little bigger than one you could get at Harbor freight. I was more than willing to pay the $125 and hour (they quoted that to show up then every 15 minutes there would be a charge.) So the guy messes with trying to get it to go straight down my washer drain for 15-20 minutes and finally starts it in the pipe so the snake wouldn't coil up. 20 minutes later the clog is out (some material like a washrag) and flowing. Without asking he dumps in some "industrial strength crystals" and leaves. A month later the inflated bill for $200 shows up on the $125 quote. Bad business if you ask me. read more

I have used these guys for years always a loyal customer. I usually only use them when I'm to busy to do it myself. They have never over charged me. Well after the move that changed. I moved into a nice area and the prices skyrocketed. I was charged over $2000 to have a water softener put in and a gas line ran 7 feet. Just fyi I purchased the water softener before hand. They milked this job! The plumber added in a bypass when the house filter all ready had one. My wife paid the bill and just told me now 4 months or so later how much it was. Crazy! Excellent. Chris was the guy who came out, and determined quickly that in fact it was an issue with the grout seal and caulking so there was no immediate work to be done. But since I had paid $125 for the service call (a more than fair price for the first hour) he stayed around and gave us some suggestions about how he had seen similar scenarios handled in the past. He was very helpful and informative, and recommended that Cassini Tile & Marble come take a look at it. They'll be here Monday, so we'll see what they can do! read more

PLEASE do not work with this company. The work done was fine, and the tech was great. However, they SEVERELY over-billed us for installation, which was not part of our original quote. There was a tiny disclosure stating that it was not included, but we never received a quote on what the cost would be. Our mistake was not insisting on having this before installation, otherwise we would have done it ourselves. When we tried to settle the account, the owner was incredibly difficult to deal with. We called countless times over a 6 week period for an itemized receipt and explanation of the exhorbitant charges with no response. We put in a great deal of time reaching out to him, but he never responded or gave us any more information. Then, we moved. To be honest? We forgot about the issue in the midst of moving and job changes and then covid. This year we were contacted by a collection agency. We tried to work with them, but again Ewert was unresponsive and then unwilling to be reasonable with their fees. We finally received a judgement from small claims court, and by this point we are both so exhausted with the mess that we are going to pay what he wants and move on. Note: We sought out several quotes on our own after this process and were told multiple times that Ewert DOUBLE charged us. In the end though, we were not diligent in tracking phone communication and after a move, covid, and the fact that i am pregnant- we decided that this person and his dirty business practices are not worth our time. We will tell everyone we can NOT to use their service and have learned a valuable lesson for next time. Please, please do not look to Ewert for your plumbing needs. read more
