Before heading to Guanajuato a relative very familiar with the area advise that I "skip the mummy museum" describing it as a tourist trap, not worth my time. It's a bit outside of town, requiring a cab ride, so following his recommendation was easy.
When I came upon Ex Convento Dieguno right beside Jardin de la Union (center of town), I had no expectation of viewing mummies but if I hadn't there wasn't much of anything more to see here.
The storied history of this building is written on a placard outside. Pay a modest entrance fee of $50MX (about $2.50US) to come inside and view the space and what I believe was a temporary exhibition of about 6 mummies, almost all children.
If you had any intention of going to the Mummy Museum, a visit here should either pique your interest in seeing more or cause realization that you've seen enough. For me, it was the latter.
I've no complaints about a mini-museum in a historic building with a tiny entrance fee. Neither do I have much to enthuse over. If you're here, you may as well see it and the whole experience will likely be complete within about 15 minutes. read more
