2022 Pokémon World Championships Arena inside hall of ExCeL London.
    Ting A.

An enormous venue that seemed to be endless from one end to the other. We had finally made our way here for the 2022 Pokémon World Championships after it was postponed the past two years. The space easily accommodates a few thousand people without making one feel suffocated. Inside has ample dining options, albeit unsurprisingly overpriced for the quality, and sufficient seating. Restrooms are regularly spaced across hallways, many requiring a trip down the stairs to access. Space outside of the convention center is also utilized for outdoor events. Free Wi-Fi is accessible. The location is conveniently connected to the Custom House station. We rode the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) directly from our hotel, which was a relief as it was not impacted by the planned rail strikes. It is at the outskirts of the city so there is not much to do in the surrounding area. Many people rode the nearby cable cars from the Emirates Royal Docks to go to the O2 for post-event entertainment.

Great view of the warships and military equipment at DSEI

Great convention hall with prime location. There are lots of choices to eat and security/staff is very helpful. Because of the sheer size of the show I got lost a couple of times and redirected in wrong directions when trying to find the appropriate show services. For DSEI they had a lot of security. The West Gate is close to the pier and lots of quiet restaurants which are pretty good. The Custom House DLR was closed when I went so I had to stop at Prince Regent towards the East Gate

A great size place with many exhibitions to be held and eateries Went along to the cruise show and was very well spaced out the stalls

Amazing location by the water. Easy access from the DLR and home to 2012 Olympics Taekwondo Events! I remember there being only 3 coffee shops so when it's rush hour or before certain events it's just too crazy. Get your coffee fix before. I was here on 2 different occasions and didn't eat inside Excel but opted for really good Chinese across the street at China Palace Excel http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/china-palace-excel-london. Horrible name but good dim sum. The Excel is huge and it's up to the Show's producers to make something of the space so each event will be different but if they're big enough to make it to the Excel it must be something good!

A great facility I have been doing hair shows here over the last few days and have been very impressed with the facilities and the genuine kindness of 90% of the staff. Two things that could be improved to make it 5 star; £15 for car Parkin is quite high & the taps in the bathrooms do not go far enough into the sinks (small detail I am getting picky now) Great facility & great staff = happy Daniel

My first London Comic Con, wow what an experience! Stormtroopers, Dead pool, Superman & Batman were some of the guests that joined me & my friend David at Comic Con this weekend (27-29 May 2016) 60,000 people showed up today a fantastic atmosphere bringing out the Geek in me. Across the weekend 120,000 people showed up. Over 500 stalls with private collectors selling memorabilia, posters and collectors items. The best bit about this event was seeing the people dressed up. I met a guy that had paid £2,000 for this Iron Man outfit (have a peek at my photos) Guest celebrities were interviewed in front of a live panel and also signed autographs for dedicated fans. I had the opportunity to interview the main cast members of Agents of Shields & Poppy Drayton from Shannara Chronicles all very pleasant in a relaxed environment. You must go to one of the Comic Cons once in your life, its such fun with a really electric atmosphere. Next year I am not interviewing so I can dress up as a minion ha ha!

This is the prettiest convention center I have ever seen! I was expecting a coffee bar and a bunch of rooms but this place had a full food court and other retail businesses heading toward our events . A great place to host feature or promo a brand with the high volume of foot traffic . I came for a hair show and I was not disappointed

ExCel London during the World Travel Market

I've been here twice now. Once for the relatively small Destination Star Trek Convention and a second time for the massive World Travel Market. This place is pretty good as far as convention centres go. It's modern with nice facilities. There is a main concourse with loads of cafes that splits the north and south halls. The layout is simple and getting here is a breeze - take the DLR to Custom House or Prince Regent and follow the covered walkway. In the warmer months it can get pretty gosh darn hot inside, so remember to dress accordingly. Also, the food lines can get pretty atrocious during a large event. My advice would be to eat before 11am or after 2pm. If you do that, you'll be fine.

I remember the first time I visited The Excel Centre, it was actually just as it was opening. I met a friend of mine nearby and we ended up there quite randomly. We walked around completely bemused; what the hell was this empty place for?. Eventually of course, we found it - this is something that London has been missing; a centre for major exhibitions that is modern, practical and spacious. Well it is modern, and it is spacious - so much so that the Car Show and other major shows have left Earls Court and come here. However, I wouldn't say it's the most practical. I mean, try getting to Royal Victoria Dock on a Sunday. Every time I have been to a show/exhibition here; there have been weekend works on the DLR, which tends to be an ongoing thing. It's frustrating as the Excel would be perfect if only attached to an Underground Station. Other than that; it's good. It is a bit too modern and bland compared to Earls Court or Olympia; but it does the job and if you're an events organizer then this is probably your best bet. Also, as someone visiting, it's in a really lovely area next to expensive housing and a nice, former working dock.

    Bett conference

ExCel is by all means like most large, generic conference centers... with the added bonus of being just far enough from the the heart of London to be a bit of a pain to get to. Depending on who is running the event, the place is generally pretty cold.. I'm relatively convinced it's to keep people awake.. It's worth bringing a jumper. The food selection is not terrible - although if you spend more than a few days at a conference, you might find yourself yearning for slightly more variety in food.

Visited this venue for Star wars celebration, from victoria its a bit of a journey on tube and drl but well worth it. Very spacious with allot of restaurants inside. But i would recommend a pack lunch if ur attending a big function here. Staff and attendants really helpful, the only drawback is the free WiFi isn't great if u suffer from bad signal

    Helen M.

Excel is basically a warehouse for exhibitions. It's a huge aircraft hanger style hall. The exhibition halls, each of which could house a small moon, line a central walkway. There's plenty of food outlets along there, but they are all chains. Yes you can find something nice to eat, but don't expect it to be original or a bargain. Most of the loos are squirreled away downstairs, as are the cash points. On one side there's also cafes overlooking the river beyond the halls. It's not somewhere you'd go unless it was to attend an event. But I guess it does pretty well at housing them! The area around Excel is also well catered with hotels, generally relatively new and cheaper than average for London, making this not a bad place to stay in London. You can get there via the Docklands Light Railway, which is an experience in itself! If you want to see what's on you can check this website: http://www.excel-london.co.uk they host a mixture of private/trade shows and shows open to the public.

Attended World Travel Market here in November 2010 in the new ICC halls. Opened in July, they up the capacity of for Exhibitions and events by another 30,000 square feet. A new entrance on the Eastern side of the complex from Prince Regent DLR stop opens into a central concourse with glass roof. In the concourse there are many food retailers selling everything from pie and mash to sandwiches and sushi. The new halls are on either side of the main concourse and link through into the existing facilities and Platinum business suites. The design is very modern with white floors and red and yellow accents in the media suites etc. Great modern centre, the only thing that help it to lose a star is the price of the food - pretty exorbitant for the captive markets at trade shows. To be fair that is the case at most centres at Birmingham and Manchester too.

Yes it's the most amazing stadium ever and etc. They have fire and smoke and guitars and bass during the intros. So obviously. And apparently that happens when they score (not that I would know since it's an ever-elusive occurrence during my visits). It's just me, because I had to get used to an event that's more like a 2-act musical with Intermission. Good luck using the toilet in that 15 minutes, especially if you're trying to grab a drink and a bite while you're out there. I thought "surely I'm in the women's line" but no, we're all out here in line because nobody could live with themselves if they missed the only score of the night while in the loo. Enough of that. The staff are "helpful" as they help you not sit in the wrong seat. This is good because so many people think they're the only smart ones trying to sit down close in *not their seat. This is Britain, people, have some decorum and queue for your proper seat. The match was spectacular. I love nill-zed events. The pitch was immaculate. Don't you think of putting one toe on that perfect turf. The hometown boys were raucous. There can't be too much singing. The away fans were spunky. They also love not seeing their team score. But a fun time will be had by all. Secret tip: leave 2 mins before stoppage time and beat the maddening crowds back to the tube for a happy night back home. Or stay out till all hours celebrating. One day you'll win it all (maybe even this year).

I hopped on the tube and made my way up the line. Once off I b-lined it over this way with the little remaining light the day had. To say that it is massive is an understatement. I was in awe of the size of the footprint overall and the stadium itself. To think that so many countries gathered here just a few short years ago is amazing. To me, it was beautiful. I strolled the area without any agenda. I just wanted to walk around the massive area, I honestly have no idea if I walked where I was allowed or not, I wasn't paying attention much as I was staring upwards almost the whole time. I went just about everywhere that I could. Up and down stairs, over bridges, around buildings until I think I covered it all. I would have loved to go down the slide at The ArcelorMittal, but I had gotten there too late in the day and they were already closed. It looks massive and definitely a one of a kind thing to do while here. Another thing I did while here was find the Since 9/11 WTC artwork (thanks Google Maps). I was unaware that there was a memorial of sorts to the victims of 9/11 in London. Being close to the anniversary of that day I felt as if I should visit here. It is a reminder of what happened that day and an educational tool. Tastefully done.

Yep living near the Park is paying off nicely at the moment - my new local council swimming pool is none other than the Aquatics Centre! It's been open to the public for the last few weeks and I have to say it's a pretty special venue - I still get tingles every time I walk in. It's £4.50 per swim session for an adult and there's an easy peasy online system to book in advance. There are 2 full size pools inside - the Competition Pool for the hardcore swimmers and the Training Pool where they separate the lengths into two 25m sections. Personally I found a 50m pool to be ridiculously long in real life (my superwoman stamina is a err work in progress) so I tend to do laps in the 25m lanes. You choose a pool and a start time online but it's pretty lax once you're in, and you can stay as long as you like. The water is a nice slightly warm temperature and it's usually a uniform 1.2m depth all the way along (though somehow they can change the depth of different sections - the mind boggles!). It's not all lanes - there are also sections of the pool roped off for 'fun' as well as swimming lessons. Also saw signs for a total wipeout stylee 'Splash Time' for kiddies at weekends that sounded like great fun if anyone wants to lend me a child?! The reason it misses a 5th star is that the changing rooms and shower facilities are just not that great. It's spacious yes and there are plenty of cubicles, hairdryers and lockers, but the layout is a little confusing (quite a wander from the lockers to the female showers), they seem to have too many staff/cleaners milling around not doing much, and the showers themselves seem temperamental and need you to wave a hand past every 3 seconds. Is this how Michael Phelps showered?! (*pauses to enjoy the mental picture*) Ahem. Yeah I expected better. So remember to bring your own towel+toiletries, a plastic bag for your wet cozzie (I haven't spotted a drying machine yet) and a £1 coin for the lockers. And please only tell your special friends - the nicest thing at the moment is that it isn't too busy on weeknights! See you there :)

I'd heard about the rabid, evil Millwall fans, and seen them so many times away from home, and once in their old stadium as a younger lad. Not the case on the day I was here, but then the opponent was a lowly and unexciting adversary. It's a good stadium though, not as expensive as some of the others in London, by a long shot. I enjoyed my day, I was covered from the rain by the stands, I didn't get stabbed (people used to say that's what happened at Millwall games), and altogether I found it a lot more pleasant and also underwhelming than expected. I'll try it again for a much bigger game, one of these days... to see what the fuss is really about. The rich owners have jazzed it up and made it like a posh little box. The crowd is absolutely intense and right on top of the field and I always feel like part of the action when I'm in here. Definitely one of the better stadiums, but the prices and the small size are the reason it's a 4. Also, when back in the UK I plan to take more pix, and add more stadia! So watch this space! *** return to regular review *** It's a little rich club with a little rabid stadium in West London. I can't give this stadium less than a 4 because it's so loud and intense and the crowd are right on top of the players, but there's no way such a tiny stadium can get a 5 for a club that should really have a bigger and grander stadium. It looks like they won't be in the Prem much longer anyway (they never usually are), but if the club won't be missed (too many London clubs, esp West London), then the stadium will and its atmosphere too. Compared to Arsenal's new Emirates Stadium (review here: http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-emirates-stadium-london#hrid:nvZxRYSY_mKiQndnHx2iQw), Loftus Road is like a backyard shed. One of the great things about the smaller clubs is how accessible the players are as well. If you get to Loftus Road early you can catch many of the players walking from the player parking lot into the stadium, and most of them are happy to stop to sign an autograph or snap a quick photo with you. Try doing that at Manchester United or Chelsea! QPR is a fantastic little club with an incredible history. Hopefully they'll be in the top flight for years to come. Which means I better start saving up now for what I hope can be an annual pilgrimage.

The concessions are overpriced/expensive but there are a lot of options. Getting out was insanely crowded; they stopped us for awhile to help the tubes from being flooded with people and we eventually had to fight our way onto a bus to get out of the mass of people. But it was all worth it, highly recommend an event here!

Entry was easy, as based on your ticket, you entered through the specific color zone and the security process. You had easy direction to the right level and where the section your seats were located. There are a few drink vendors offering a variety of options such as beer, Pimm's cups, and spritzes. Food options were a little more limited, especially in the gluten free area. They also have bar and restaurant options which are nice as well as a champagne lounge. Bathrooms are plentiful and has no issues accessing with little queue wait. Exiting following the show, it was a little frustrating because they weren't letting people use the escalators and directing people down the stairs that were a little claustrophobic and made you feel someone was going to take a tumble. But once you were out, there are plenty of routes to ensure you get to your destination... unless you are taking the Tube, which in that case, you may need to have patience. But watching shows there are great.

Once upon a time, 75k could squeeze in here and it was Europe's biggest league stadium, but Charlton underachieved so it fell into disrepair. Charlton even had to share Selhurst Park for ages while the Valley was renovated. Luckily three sides of it are complete now and it's an absolutely magnificent venue in the heart of SE London. It just needs one more stand to be "done up" and then it'll be finished, and one of the best grounds in London and the country. But it's already pretty fantastic. First-Hand Experience: Yelp asked me to include more information about my personal experience at this stadium, so here it is. I've been to the Valley twice (I think), once on my 2014 stadium tour of England (and I took pix), and once to watch a game when I was younger (Oxford United away). Lovely stadium indeed. I've been to virtually every significant stadium in the UK & US, due to a lifelong obsession with travel, sport & especially footy (soccer to Americans). Born and raised in England, I followed Oxford United (my hometown team) to many stadiums all over the country at away games, and later followed Liverpool (my fave team) around. Every stadium review - like all my reviews - are from personal experience at these stadiums from multiple visits. In 2011, I was on music tour in the UK, and visited these stadiums then, also. As recently as Fall 2014, when I was "stuck" in the UK for 3 months, I visited all of the stadiums as I travelled around the country. I have pictures of many of them which I will post in future. Also, when I'm back in the UK I plan to take more pictures, and add more stadiums too! So watch this space! *** return to regular review *** There is a very romantic story about how the stadium was built: The club found an abandoned sand and chalk pit in Charlton, but did not have sufficient funds to fully develop the site. An army of volunteer Charlton supporters dug out a massive pit for the pitch, and used the soil from the excavation to build up the sides. The ground's name most likely comes from its original valley-like appearance. The club played its first game at the ground before any seats, or even terraces, were installed; there was simply a roped-off pitch with the crowd standing or sitting on the adjoining earthworks. The unique circumstances of the ground's initial construction led to an unusually intense bond between the club's supporters and the site that exists to this day. How romantic is that?
