She often reversed numbers and letters, transposed words or parts of words, and skipped words or phrases all together. As she got older, it became more and more evident because her school work was getting more difficult. Reading and writing were so difficult. It would take her such a long time and so much effort, that it often resulted in tears. As a homeschooler, I work so closely with her day in and day out, I could really see the struggle. I started researching reading disorders such as dyslexia, etc. I wasn't thrilled with what I had found. I talked to many reading/dyslexia specialists, and all they could offer me was a VERY expensive "bandaid" that would never actually fix the problem. A friend of mine told me about vision therapy, and how all 5 of her kids had gone to Excel. When Dr. Gietzen evaluated my daughter, he confirmed that she had some very severe deficits but was so optimistic and confident that they could be corrected. Some of her evaluations were so low that they couldn't even be tested. She has completed her course of VT with Stephanie and corrected EVERY single problem area. Stephanie was absolutely wonderful! My daughter was sad to end therapy because she wouldn't be seeing Stephanie every week. Now my daughter is at least in the range of normal or above for ALL of the areas she struggled with. It is amazing to me how much she has improved with her schoolwork and also athletics. It made sense why she was so clumsy and uncoordinated before. Every area of her life was being negatively affected by this, and now every area of her life has improved. I am so thankful that we found this solution for her. She just had her 3 month follow-up appointment, and her vision is completely stable - no regression. It's amazing what they've been able to do for her. Thank you so much to the staff at Excel.

It got so bad I was receiving 3-4 calls/emails almost every day- disrupting my work and my peace. IEP meetings were occurring but ultimately ineffective and nothing seemed to be improving. He was not getting an education and the school did not want him there or wanted to seclude him for disruptive behaviors. After Maria got involved, she came to me with a specific plan of what we needed to target for IEP changes. She was involved for several meetings and ultimately helped me get my son placed in a therapeutic school. Not an alternative school but an actual private therapy school and the school district paid. He is now in the 7th grade, almost a full year-in and thriving. She was truly a blessing for me and my son!

They ensure that their educational rights are being met including their right to FAPE (a Free and Public Education). If a child with a disability is not making meaningful educational progress, they can assist by collaborating with parents and the school district to better the situation for that child. While an advocate is not a lawyer and cannot provide legal advice, their expertise and knowledge surrounding the civil rights and educational rights of children guided by the state and federal laws can be invaluable to a parent that does not have that background. Navigating this complex process is very overwhelming and intimidating to most. The average person may not be skilled and knowledgeable enough to obtain the optimal outcomes best suited for their child. I have personally walked this road with my own child for years now. I learned the hard way trying to do this on my own. Looking back now I wish I had sought help with student advocacy early on. I advocate for all children needing accommodations or special educational services at school. All children deserve to learn and thrive to the best of their abilities regardless of their disability or learning differences. Parents should feel confident that the school district and staff collaborates productively with them in developing a 504 Plan or IEP specific to their child's needs and situation.

They offered a course that lasted for a couple of weeks and cost just a few hundred dollars. You get what you pay for! In this program, I had 10 weeks of hands on training, plenty of lab time, and a lot of quizzes. Why? Because Medright wants to make sure you are employable after graduation! The best part was the 2-week clinical rotation, in which I got to work alongside a professional phlebotomist at Beaumont Hospital. I got real world experience on over 150 patients during this time. It's not like the labs where you practice on volunteers. I dealt with squeamish people, toddlers, and people with fear of needles. This course trains you for the real world. There are cheaper courses out there, but this one is the best if you truly want a career in health care. Do yourself a favor and choose this one. Chances are very good you'll get a job offer after your rotation. I did! And when I moved to California a few years ago, I was more than prepared for the state certification.

There are a lot of hands on exercises they incorporate with the lectures. Ms. Howard and Mrs. Lucas are teachers you want when learning something new. They are not your monotoned teachers that don't care about what they are teaching. They are lively and passionate about phlebotomy. Their methods of teaching involved real life experiences that made the textbook easier to understand. Medright literally gives you EVERYTHING you need to pass the class. If you have a question, they have an answer or will find it, SO ASK. They are there to help you attain a new skill or make it better. It's great to walk out of there and say that I learned something and that I'm excited to apply it in the real world. There are/were a few people complaining about the extra money they had to spend on tutoring, but being one of those people I can safely say that it was the best money I've spent. That one on one tutoring was incredible. My confidence and skills were changed after that session. During the tutoring session is the time you question anything and everything, if you need to. My clinical rotation was amazing as well. I met some great people and drew over 100 on my 7th day. I'm in the hiring process at my clinical site. What you learn at Medright, Mrs. Lucas and Ms. Howard is almost EXACTLY how you do it in a real hospital or clinical setting. There are a few differences and that's going to happen because hospitals change the way they do things at times. You will find your way of doing things that fit your comfort. I am grateful for everything Medright, Mrs. Lucas and Ms. Howard have done for me. Thank you!
