Really enjoyed our stay. The concierge was super helpful and the restaurant is Amazing! The staff is very professional and accommodating. The food exquisite! Try the salted fresh fish.

Infinity pools are my new favorite.

Staying at the Excelsior was definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Italy. The rooms were clean and the views were stunning. The lobby itself is beautifully adorned with baroque architecture and classical paintings. The breakfast in the mornings featured a wide array of cheeses, cold cuts, pastries, fruit, scrambled eggs and cooked meats. The infinity pool is worth checking out. I will say that the bar close to the infinity pool was a little overpriced. The location is fantastic. It was easy walking from the hotel to the center of Rapallo, which is close enough to do some day trips to Cinque Terre or Portofino. The train station is only about a 15 minute walk from the hotel or a 5 minute cab ride. Will definitely be back if I'm ever in the area!

We stayed here for 3 nights on our honeymoon, and had an incredible experience. The hotel is elegant and classic, and the view from our room was absolutely amazing. The hotel also has one of the most beautiful pools overlooking the ocean that I have ever seen. The only critique I have is the price of the food and drink. We paid about 25 Euro for a small meat and cheese plate at the casual bar (although I will say it was delicious). I thought the price of our room was very reasonable, given the incredible facilities and view. Rapallo is a bit sleepy and the main harbor is mostly touristy restaurants, but it is a close shot to Cinque Terre and Portafino, which are both incredible.

Outside bar was great. We didn't stay here but enjoyed the water views. Great service!

Hotel Cenobio dei Dogi - Caffè

We loved laying out by the pool, taking in the amazing scenery. The breakfast was outstanding. So many good things to choose from including local specialties. Their Foccacia is probably the best I've had and I lived 2 years of my life in Genoa proper and I know good Foccacia. It's the perfect place for a relaxing, charming, and romantic vacation.

We stayed at this hotel in 2019 and had a positive experience that we were excited to return. While…read morethe property was a little dated even then, the price was fair for a four- star hotel. Unfortunately, our recent stay was a very different experience. The location remains excellent and the buffet breakfast good. However, our room and surroundings, was a major disappointment, especially considering the price of €482 per night for a classic double. We were assigned a room on floor 2, in the rear of the main building, and both room and surrounding hallway felt very tired, and need of renovation. Upon walking to our room, the carpet on the stairs were badly stained and worn. A terrible impression. Along the hallway to our room, scattered old carpets in disrepair were a poor sight. Sightly old furniture and housekeeping carts left in the hallway. Inside our room, the old shower door seal was peeling off, and poorly maintained. The bathroom fixtures old. The 2 mattresses on each of our beds, were past their prime! Both had noticeable depressions that made them feel worn out and very unsupportive, affecting quality of sleep. Mattresses in this condition should be replaced long ago, especially at a hotel charging nearly 500€ per night! Very unacceptable. Small details added up--complimentary water only on the first day, and never replenished. At this price point, that felt stingy and below a four star hotel. We asked to change rooms, but were told there were none available for our first night, and then only, after asking again, did they show us another category for a following night. We were only staying 3 nights, and didn't want to pack up again and move to another room. When checking out I mentioned the above comments about the room and old stained carpet in hallway, and was told that our room was supposedly the next on the renovation phase. The receptionist said that renovations were being done in phases. Well, if that is the case, they should never charged €482 per night for an old room, they knew was in poor condition! We've stayed in many four-star hotels throughout Europe, that cost less and offered much higher quality accommodations. Based on the stay, the room did not justify the nightly rate. I would only recommend Cenobio Dei Dogi only for its nice location, not for the value.

    La Torretta - Manarola!

    La Torretta

CINQUE TERRE, ITALY LA TORRETTA LODGE - MANOROLA…read more UP FRONT: When you visit Cinque Terre in Italy, (literally "five lands"), you have five choices on where to stay out of the five fishing villages. If you're like most tourists, you're going to visit all of them, but one has to be your "home base". After visiting all of them, I think your best bet is either Manorola or Monterosso. The scenery in both places is astounding. Manorola is small and quiet and has some cliffs you can dive off at the bottom of the hill. Monterosso is a bit more sprawling and has a good stretch of beach. We stayed in Manorola two nights. Got the tip about La Torretta on Trip Advisor. This hotel is a dream. From start to finish, it felt too good to be true. Check in was a breeze - it was only us in the lobby - and we sipped Prosecco on the patio while the front desk copied our passports and finished up the paper work. Our room #7 was at the very top with the most breathtaking view (see photo). Bed was very comfortable, and the bathtub (we didn't use it) is literally the biggest I've ever seen - HUGE. No problems with the room - temperature control was good, mini-bar was complimentary. Be aware there is no phone in the room, and if you need something, you need to go down the steps to the office or call down from the window as you see the hotel staff moving about the property. lol. I did that once, we needed towels for the room, but no phone, so I just called out to the maid while I was standing on the balcony. It worked. The hotel sits on top of the hill. You walk down the hill to all the shops and restaurants. There's everything you need, ATM machine, train station, pharmacy, and more. At the bottom of the hill is the ocean, no beach, but there are places where you can lay out and many people do. There's also swimming allowed and the water is so cold and refreshing. You can dive in from many areas, and climb to the cliffs where you will be afraid to jump, but do it, it's so much fun. It took me 15 minutes to get enough courage to get off the cliff, but with the encouragement of fellow cliff divers, I was able to do it. Kept going back up to the top to do it again. There's breakfast in the mornings, all kinds of goodies - meats and cheeses, croissants, pastries and of course coffee. The hotel staff work hard to make sure you have everything you need. But keep in mind, they are not at the front desk 24/7. They close at 9:30 PM and they weren't clear about that when we checked in - neither did they say there was no phone in room. When we left, we were taking a train at the bottom of the hill, and they brought our luggage down with a golf cart. All the good things that have been said in the reviews are true - nothing hyped up about this place. Worth every dollar we spent on the room. Coming in on the offseason, we were still greated by a concierge who met us at the bottom of the mountain, and drove us up to the wonderful views that Manarolla had to offer. We checked in, but before that, we were given gifts of food and champagne to celebrate our arrival there. The view was outstanding, and the hosts were more than generous. They talked with us about where we had been, where we were coming from in the United States, and also about what else we had planned. To top off how great of a stay we had... they gave us an upgrade to the honeymoon suite for free! The room was absolutely gorgeous! A giant tub in the room, fiberoptic lights in the ceiling, and a gorgeous breakfast spread for nothing?!? It was amazing. To truly make it, what it was... as much as everyone always wants to be connected to the world... I was glad that I could not get any wifi at the hotel. It was nice to finally be away from everything, and not to be bothered by anything or anyone. We were left alone... to be alone. Waking up and taking in the view from our hotel room left us enjoying the beautiful views of the sea. Not to mention a nice little gift of bottle of champagne that was waiting for us once we got back from visiting the rest of Cinque Terra area.... as the concierge said... "Just because" I would recommend this place to ANYONE visiting the area... it is a little pricey, however I can tell you that the service is top notch, and well worth the euro's in my book.
