Upon arrival, Joe and Connor got us fitted with our safety vests and our kayaks and then gave us lessons on how to use the paddle, get in/out of the kayak and provided general navigation and waterway guidance; from there we were off and loving life! We kayaked in Cold Spring Harbor just behind the lab and had an awesome time. It was so relaxing and quiet as we glided across the water. Joe led us in the front and Connor picked up the rear so we always felt safe and in good hands. Since this was our first time, we opted for a 1hour lesson/tour and Joe told us that most of his customers, at the end of the tour, say they wanted more time. This place has tours groups you can go on an expedition with, or if you want just rent the kayaks and make your own adventure. I went renting the kayaks. I would say wear something comfortable, but good for the conditions as you will be out on the river for an hour or two. And don't forget your sunscreen! TEP deserves more than 5 stars for the amazing start to finish service we experienced on our 7 day…read moreadventure to Peru to hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. From the time we signed up, to the time we boarded the plane to return home, TEP took care of every detail. We commented amongst ourselves that we felt like kids on vacation with our parents, as we didn't have to worry about any of the details - just show up and follow Neptali (our guide). From airport pickup in Cusco in luxury Mercedes vans where we were promptly served Coca tea to help with the altitude acclimation, to group dinners at amazing Peruvian restaurants, to historical tours and education on the history of the Inca - everything was covered and taken care of for us. And that was all before the amazing trek along the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu! Of course the trek itself was the highlight of the trip, and although it was extremely challenging for us, TEP's unbelievable attention to detail did not fail us on the trail. With nearly a 2:1 porter to trekker ration, our every need was met on the trail. We dined like kings every meal, and were consistently amazed with the quality (and nutritional appropriateness) of the food our chef and sous chef were able to put out with minimal kitchen conveniences. The thing I felt was most special about TEP's approach to this trip was the focus on gaining a cultural and historical appreciation for what we were experiencing. Every step along the way, we learned about the native people of Peru, the Inca civilization, the many ruins we came across, the vegetation we saw and how it was and is used, and the history of modern Peru. It was the trip of a lifetime, and have the help of The Explorer's Passage made it so much more enjoyable, and so much more memorable. The value of what they provide is amazing for the cost....rather, for the investment. I highly recommend them!

They gave great information upon booking the reservation on the phone. Parking was very easy but depending what time you go I'd go sooner for parking! The women who checked us in was very sweet. She explained everything to us. She told us where to go and how to stay safe. The man who got us on the boards was equally as nice. He gave us a quick course on how to use the boards. The boards were much easy than I thought. I felt secure and got the hang of it pretty quickly. We paddled to an amazing area with a waterfall and past some beautiful houses and shoreline. I loved that you could kneel , lay , stand and just float in the water. It was definitely a fun day and I can't wait to do it again.

The owner, Craig, gave us tips on things to do in the area. He also gave us a group discount since we had 7 people on our group. I also appreciated that he suggested we do 1 hour (rather than 2 hours) - from his experience 1 hour is enough for kids....and he was totally right! Instead of pushing us for an option to spend more money, he provided great advice that was right for our group. We had a great time, and it was beautiful, but 1 hour was definitely enough. The pricing is set per person. One suggestion would be to price differently for single versus double kayaks, which many places do (with a discount for double kayaks).

Again, very accommodatable, wagons to move your bundles from parking lot to your boat. We rented 21foot Grady white, great hull, 4foot nose into waves, not a splash over the gunnel, no wind, flat day on the Sound, bow riders stayed dry and no pounding! We had four people but just as good for six. 200HP Yamaha POWER PLANT. THIS PUPPY DINT MISS A HEATBEAT! Took us a couple of times to figure out the power of this engine as with my skier getting up. Lot of torque just as your coming out of the water and then power up pulls the reigns out of your hands. Gotta go slow at that point on the throttle.
