They simply do not care about the individual people, they only care about transactions. After our offer on a property was accepted and the details of a buy-sell agreement were completed, we were told the information was being sent to the bank. The banker was in direct communication with the their representative who was working as a "dual agent" supposedly. Then out of the blue we were sent an email four days later (including a weekend) they did another showing and another offer was accepted. Our buy-sell had not been sent to the bank. The "dual agent" did not represent our interests. The company did not have any remorse and acted as if it was normal and perhaps our fault. The worst customer service I've ever experienced in my life in any aspect.

This year they sent me a gift card for one of the local fancy grocery stores for Christmas along with a holiday card which was an unexpected pleasure. Don't be offended if they don't respond right away to maintenance inquiries that are not of an emergency nature. They will ask for the list of concerns during inspection and do handle the repairs in accordance with the budgets they have to work with. Great company to work with as a renter in my opinion.

For the last two years I rented from Rent Smart. I felt like I should post because it is so…read morechallenging to find a house from a private landlord in Missoula and so many property managers have terrible reputations, so it is hard to know who to rent from. At the end of the day, I am fairly surprised to say that the experience with Rent Smart was quite good. As a rule, I expect to be swindled by property managers every chance they get, but that was never the case with Ren tSmart. We only had one problem at our place, a pipe burst at 2 AM on a Sunday morning and John came and dealt with it at that time. Other than that the place was great. I will say that the move out process was a bit stressful. They definitely expect the place to be VERY VERY VERY clean, but we put in a ton of work (Two of us spent about 10-15 hours each) and were able to get the entire deposit back. We did have to spend $145 on a carpet cleaning and some more on cleaning supplies and odds and ends stuff, but we got the whole deposit when it was all said and done. I was actually shocked when we got the whole deposit back. The other reviews on here made it seem like no matter how hard we tried we would lose half our deposit, but we got ours back. My advice to you if your goal is to get the whole deposit back: be prepared to scrub the stove for 3 hours, but it can be done! At the end of the day, most of us would probably prefer to rent from a private landlord with whom we get along, but in Missoula it is hard to find a private landlord. I would say that you are unlikely to find property managers much better than Rent Smart.

We tried to fight it, but they said it was because of misuse of the sink, and that there was no way to prove it was not us. We even tried to call the plumber to prove that something like that would take years to build up, yet they would not make a statement because of their partnership.
