Not particularly a gourmet stop, but hey, what do you expect at the airport? Besides, Fiumicino is huge and full of coffee shops and food kiosks, one can easily find whatever their soul desires. In the morning, this place gets really crowded by locals who are coming for a quick espresso before going to work. I ordered a cafe americano (which is regular coffee) and a sandwich with prosciutto and cheese, which was pretty descent. They also make fresh squeezed orange juice which actually looked pretty good and have waters and other beverages to go.

These were fried yeast dough puffs covered in granulated sugar and with a squirt of filling in the top middle of the dough. It's not exactly a donut by American standards, but it's not far off. We tried the chocolate and the pistachio flavor filled ones, though they had a vanilla cream flavor and one or two others. The flavored fillings were almost like a wet pudding consistency and the sugar on the outside of the dough gave it it's sweetness. Bottom line: Glad I tried Krapfen! If for no other reason then it's fun to say.
