I booked flights and car rental for my recent trip to Florida. There were many choices for the car rental companies so, being Canadian, I chose a company (RIGHT CAR) that quoted in Canadian dollars. The price was good but I believed it was due to the fact that you had to take a shuttle to their location. Big mistake! After being shuttled to RIGHT CAR and completing paperwork, the proprietors asked for Insurance confirmation which I provided. I was then told that RIGHT CAR does not accept Canadian insurance. Ultimately I was told I would have to pay a daily insurance fee on top of the rental fee. Needless to say, I did not use their services but was not reimbursed by them. So I was out my money. I contacted Expedia and, although they tried, they could not obtain a full or partial reimbursement. My complaint about EXPEDIA is that they should not deal with a company that does not accept Canadian Insurance. If they do, they should have full disclosure advising that RIGHT CAR does NOT accept Canadian Insurance. read more

I tried to book a flight on the Expedia website and it wasn't able to process my payment due to their error/glitch. Instead it put a hold on my credit card for the value of the flight for over a week, with no booking confirmation. I booked with Flight Hub and ended up paying $125 less for the same flight. The Expedia credit card hold for a contract that was never completed made my vacation difficult. After over 15 years of using Expedia, I will not use their service ever again. Customer service is automated with no way of getting a refund if you don't have an itinerary number. Expedia only emailed--and after over 5 business days, no reply. Meanwhile, ticket prices increased, and I was left stranded with unusable tickets. One Expedia agent outright refused to call Emirates, claiming no contact number existed--contradicting what Emirates told me. A chat agent later promised to escalate and follow up but never did. I booked a flight through Expedia and PAID EXTRA for baggage and seat selection. When I went to the airline's website (Air Transat), I found out none of it was registered -- I was being asked to pay AGAIN for the same things I already paid Expedia for. So I reached out to support thinking this would be a quick fix. Nope. What followed was a complete runaround. I was first connected to someone who claimed they couldn't help me because they only handle Expedia US bookings, and I had to call another number for Expedia Canada. When I asked them to simply forward my information or connect me -- they said they couldn't even do that. No help. No solution. Just dumped the problem back on me. I wasted hours on chat, was bounced between agents, and not one person took responsibility. No refund. No resolution. No confirmation that my seat or baggage fees were carried over to the airline. Just empty apologies and scripted nonsense. Expedia took my money, didn't deliver the services I paid for, and left me completely on my own. Don't book through Expedia! I booked through them for an SUV from Routes Car Rental at Calgary airport. When I arrived, they gave me an SUV that was about 10" shorter than the one I had booked so it was a bit tricky to fit our skis, snowboard and two large suitcases in it. However, since our flight had been delayed and the Routes staff were friendly and actually stayed past closing time to set me up, I just took the SUV they gave me. I had pre-paid Expedia $177.40. Routes claimed the SUV they gave me was "similar" but the receipt they printed came to a total of $140.79. I don't know if it was cheaper because it was smaller, or less fancy or their rates fluctuate but I figured I would get a credit on my VISA because according to their paperwork, the SUV I got would have been $140.79 if I had not pre-paid for it. I contacted Expedia and they got back to me, saying that they had contacted Routes who said no refund would be coming. I contacted Expedia back and explained that they had an obligation to tell Routes to provide the refund or that they should provide it to me directly. They told me to contact Routes directly. So apparently I work in the rental car business now because I am doing their job and wondering why I bothered dealing with Expedia at all. I contacted Routes who said I need to contact Expedia since they were my primary point of contact. So for the third time, I contact Expedia who replied back that there is nothing they can do. It seems obvious that a customer should not have to pay more than the going rate simply because Expedia got the money in advance. It is pretty standard that when you buy something and the price drops before you pick it up, you get the lower price. This tells me that Expedia is a joke because they don't have the stones to tell their providers to send a refund and/or think it's okay when their providers switch a reservation and provide a lower priced vehicle but keep the extra money I pre-paid for the vehicle I didn't get. The only other thing I can come up with to explain this is that maybe Expedia routinely charges 26% commission to book a car rental. Next time I will just go directly to a car rental site and save the $36. I have no idea whether Expedia or Routes pocketed the extra $36.61 but I will not be using either company again in the future if I can help it. I'm astounded that Expedia would not just resolve the issue directly. Then to have both companies tell me to talk to the other one? I feel that at least one of them is lying to me and/or at least one of them is incompetent. Non refundable for a room that needed to be changed and tried to charge an addition $389 to extend the stay for 1 night, when the room is $150 a night! And to try and almost triple charge for an Extended day is ridiculous. also when I asked to speak to a supervisor they hung up and blocked my number. Booked 2 trips on Expedia.com in the last 3 months. The domestic flight went well. My international flight (to India), which I had booked 1.5 month prior to the trip, got cancelled the night before the flight day! My initial flight was via Delta/KLM, and within an hour of cancellation I got an email from Virgin Atlantic, with a comparable timing of the trip. So, while not thrilled about the change and the stress, I thought I was all set. Wrong. In the morning got an email notification -- my first flight was delayed by an hour, which meant that I would miss my connecting flight by 15 min (the email didn't say that, just noted that they would rebook me if the delay caused any missed connections). I waited for a couple of hours. Nothing -- neither airline sent any updates, and Expedia was all quiet too. I called Virgin Atlantic, they said Expedia agents were messing in the system, they couldn't rebook. Called Expedia -- they said they were doing nothing. Called backed Virgin Atlantic -- "oops, we can't book you on another flight" and gave me awful options. Back to Expedia -- "try reaching Delta." Finally, a Delta customer rep was able to connect with KLM, who then rebooked me with British Airways. All of these took 4.5 hours, during which I still wasn't sure whether I'd be flying that day and which airline. Expedia offered $50 in some "one key" feature credit. Really? Do yourself a favor, stay away from Expedia.com. They spoke to me like I was the crazy one for asking for a refund for the trip that was cancelled (not by me!) less than 24 hours -- an international trip at that. I paid extra for a specific airline and schedule. All those hours on the phone rebooking (doing Expedia's job) cost me in work time, not to mention enormous stress and trip disruption. I've used Expedia for over 10 years and was quite happy with their service. Their website was user-friendly and flexible. However, this year (2024), I've booked five trips on Expedia and encountered issues with all of them. The most recent problem involved an all-inclusive package to Cozumel, which was booked in May. When double-checking the details today (July 4th), I noticed that our resort was actually on the mainland, not on the island of Cozumel. When I finally reached a customer service representative, he blamed me for not checking the hotel's address. I pointed out that it was offered as a package offered deal by Expedia, but he insisted that Expedia is a self-service travel agency and that it was my responsibility to verify these details. To fix the problem, they wanted to charge an extra $9,000 to stay at a resort on the island. My receipt indicated that I could cancel until July 11, but when I said I wanted to cancel, he said I wouldn't get a full refund. He claimed he could only refund Expedia's portion of the trip. Then, he proposed a convoluted solution where if I paid $1,000 upfront, I could get $3,000 back plus a $1,000 airline credit. This sounded like a scam to me - and so did my credit card company took one dollar from my credit card to "test" it????? I spent almost two hours on the phone with Michael and Hector, dealing with this, but no real solution was offered I would advise everyone to avoid using Expedia. When things go well, there's no problem, but if issues arise, they refuse to take responsibility. Let me tell you what Expedia did to us today. Swoop canceled the flight that was a part of the package we bought on Expedia. Swoop refused to find us another flight on the same day and so we had to adjust the dates of our trip. Expedia told us they'd contact the hotel for us, but then they found the phone line they had for the hotel in their system was either offline or outdated. So they told us we had to just cancel the entire package and rebook for $1,7000 more. When we asked why they couldn't track down another way to contact the hotel, they stated: "we don't do that, we're not researchers." **BEWARE** Expedia represents this company and supports the abusive treatment given to customers. We rented and prepaid for a car through Expedia.ca Upon reading the rules and restrictions and having to email the company with mileage inquiries, we were led to believe nothing else was due upon arrival. When we arrived, the rental office was closed and a hotel employee had to direct us to the pick up area in back of the hotel. Two customers were returning cars and were told the vehicles were damaged and their credit card would be charged. Both customers denied damages but had no proof that the damage pre-existed. Typically, rental vehicles are inspected before and after use. Apparently this was not done. Upon further research, I discovered many articles similar to the Guardian. Upon pick up we were told the following - Insurance must be taken through the rental agency. We told them we do not need it as we carry it with our reputable and trustworthy credit card company. We explained that we had insurance and the their policy clearly stated - 'Your rental may have mandatory, local insurance requirements that result in additional charges at the time of rental.' Therefore; MAY does not imply 'must' and we did not require the service. When that did not work, they took a 'Bullying' approach. We were told if we get as much as a scratch on the vehicle, our credit card will be charged up to £5000.00. They then told us we could choose to pay £26.00 per day for insurance to avoid further charges to our credit card. If we chose not to pay the daily rate, our credit card would be charged £1200.00 as a deposit. The deposit would be returned 28 days after the car was returned. We became very hesitant to proceed with the rental. We told the employee that we would cancel our reservation as we were not comfortable with the way this company operates. He told us we could not be refunded as we would have to cancel 6 hours prior to pick up. Unfortunately, we did not anticipate these business practices. As a last resort, the employee told us to tell Green Motion and Expedia that we had COVID 19 and they may refund our money. We told him we were going to report them to Expedia and Green Motion as lying for financial gain is fraud and refused to partake in criminal activity. read more

Booked a family Vegas Flight with cancellation extra cost coverage. But when I had to cancel three weeks in advance, Expedia refused to credit my credit card $1,900. They are thieves. They lie. They mis-represent cancellation coverage and charge you for it. They refuse to refund your money. They require me to call to them to use the credit at some future time or lose it. The credit is only valid for one year. If you don't have the original iterinary number you won't be able to get or use the credit. I paid for trip insurance and they still won't refund me. They made an error on a gift ticket I had bought for my daughter and they merged my first name with my daughter's so it became something akin to "BarryBarbara" and they would not fix it. I called multiple times - they tried to pass me to the airline but the airline told me, you must deal with Expedia. Their own mistake and today your name has to be exact to get through the airports and onto a flight. We had a flight booked for April and it ended up being canceled due to COVID travel restrictions. Not their fault. We rebooked a flight for October and then my wife contracted COVID so we had to reschedule. Though we originally had 24 months to rebook, they told us we only had 12. When we rebooked it we were severely limited on what we could do, how we could use them, and they jacked up the prices. I would never recommend booking through Expedia. I booked a direct ticket to Phoenix from Toronto with West Jet. It was changed to a stop over ticket in partnership with Delta. Expedia sent me confirmations. When I arrived at the airport to check in, my name was not on the manifest. Expedia had not issued my ticket properly with a Delta flight on it; it only had WestJet. Each company was pointing the finger at the other; I missed my flight and after hours of being on the phone with Expedia they managed to get me on a flight five hours later than I was originally scheduled to leave. I have reached out for compensation and so far received nothing. Funny how easily they took my money but how reluctant they are to help. Expedia flagrantly violates privacy laws in Canada, the US and other countries by sending marketing emails that have no obvious and complete 'unsubscribe' option. And even when you login to your Expedia account, there is still no intuitive option to delete the account! So I contacted Expedia several months ago and the Expedia customer service adviser, together with his supervisor, could not find any way that a customer account could be terminated!! The best they could do was send a request to Expedia's IT department!!! Yet, I still receive Expedia's numerous marketing emails with impunity for all privacy legislation; it's like a bad movie that has no ending. Expedia's reckless marketing practices are illustrative of an impersonal company with deceptive business practices. And when I have used Expedia, I subsequently found out I would have saved a LOT of money by just making reservations directly with the hotel. I strongly recommend that savvy consumers do NOT use Expedia. My brother and my family booked 4 rooms for 10 days in San Francisco for a wedding. When we made the reservation, the Expedia website indicated that it was "free cancellation" and "no pre-payment until when we stay in the hotel". After we confirmed all the bookings, we realized the terms and conditions were changed on our confirmation email from Expedia. They have pre-charged us for all the room reservation and they are non-refundable for cancellation. Unfortunately, one family member cannot make it and has to cancel one booking which was only a 2 nights stay. That's only $300 out of the few thousands booking. My brother contacted Expedia, he was told it was up to the Hotel for the refund, but when he contacted the hotel, the hotel said Expedia was the one charged the pre-payment and hold the fund. Expedia denied any booking is free to cancel. "Free cancellation" means Expedia doesn't charge a "cancellation fee" BUT the hotel fee is non-refundable. I bought return tickets for me and my wife to Mumbai from Vancouver on Jet Airways. The travel dates were April 26 to May 9, 2019. The ticket price was CAD $3163.10. Unfortunately Jet Airways suspended all their domestic and international flights from April 17, 2019. Expedia.ca (Expedia Canada Corp) did not help me with any kind of rescheduling or providing tickets with other airlines, on the contrary I had to buy very expensive tickets to India in April on short notice, with another airlines. Same while coming back to Vancouver in May. When I requested a refund for my unused tickets on Jet Airways, Expedia asked me to go to jet airways for the refund, which I did. The reply I got from Jet Airways was, "We have updated necessary remarks for your agent (which was Expedia.ca) to honor a full refund. We request you to kindly get in touch with your travel portal team or travel agent for a refund". I again contacted Expedia.CA, and this time they denied again the refund, and were rude to ask me to go to my credit card, bank and ask for my refund. I mean which bank on earth would pay for my unused ticket, bought on some unprofessional travel ticketing site. Today it is June 22 and I have called expedia.ca numerous times and they have not yet given me any refund. I have talked to many travel agents here in Vancouver area, who have a physical location in malls and around, all of them have confirmed that, they have given a refund to all their Jet Airways passengers, who bought Jet Airways tickets. I have given both Expedia.com and Expedia.ca a good business for last 10 years. This is how they treat their loyal customers. Please, to all air travelers I request you all, to buy flight tickets from an agent who has some sort of physical office where you can talk to someone face to face.
