Somerton Center has been taking care of my friend with state IV cancer. One morning before I came…read morein she had trouble getting a cough out, got lots of saliva couldn't talk or eat. She was put on a machine before I came in. By the time the hospice nurse came in an hour or two later, she started to talk. By dinner, she was able to eat and drink. On another occasion, my friend was breathing funny. The nurse put her on oxygen for a day or two. She got better. As it is, my friend is up and down. Although she's being cared for, the politics and the spin (half truths, distortions) and the politics are a problem. Yesterday I got upset when I was feeding my friend, who usually eats in drips and drabs. Her roommate, who takes forever to get by, keeps going in and out, and I had to move the Jerry Chair in the middle of feeding. More than one staff member brusquely told me "she can go in as many times as she wants." T.hey didn't seem to want to hear my side of it. When I complained about the roommate incessantly calling for people as they were her personal servants, she said "that's your opinion." Although earlier she said she'd talk to the roommate about it, which I believe is just lip service. The supervisor kicked me out and almost exploded when I mentioned there's a problem integrating people with mental problems with the rest who are relatively normal. Just before I left, she rattled off something about patients with serious problems, but she cannot divulge it. So she seemed to admit my charge but blew it off. Also, as the supervisor walked me out, a gang of staff members started following me. I asked what that was all about - that it was like Nazi's ushering me out. She curtly said that that was inappropriate, but then gave me some story I doubt about everyone going to the Red Room. Another problem is the lack of facilities. There is one, one-at-a-time public bathroom for visitors. The bathroom in the room is shared with another room. It's used not just by patients but by aides, etc., to go in and out for water, etc.

Joe the manager and his staffed would call me numerous times when they needed information. Upon my brother's death you would think they cared enough to reach out and give their condolences. Nope haven't heard from them at all. I wouldn't refer anyone to this facility because it starts from the top if the top don't care the staff won't.

Rehab was roughly 15 minute a day and was in a makeshift gym while the actual gym was being rehabbed. Food was usually bad (see photo). I feel I did not receive the attention necessary to recover and have pretty much been forced to handle rehabilitation on my own. Everyone was very nice but the service was subpar. I rang the nurses bell for my roommate as he was in worse shape than I and it took 40 minutes for the nurse to arrive. 40 minutes! Thank God he didn't flatline! Try to avoid this place if you can. I didn't have a choice and so I was sent here.

When we ask questions an example was when my aunt went at the front desk Who was my mothers nurse they all stood around looking like I don't know not me. Finally when my aunt pressed it more, the lady standing there said oh I am her nurse. She didn't say she was her nurse. Needless to say my aunt gave her a piece of her mind. The adjoining bathroom that the people there shared was disgusting the base of the toilet when I went in for my mom to go. The actual toilet seat was corroded. I had to wipe it down. They certainly don't care about your family member so use caution if you need to use this place I do not recommend it.

There were 2 instances when I had to speak to the nurse manager on duty because my mother in law was having an asthma attack. There wasn't a nebulizer on the unit and it took over 30 minutes to get an oxygen tank. Meanwhile one nurse berated me saying my mother-in-law just coughs a lot. Another time my mother in law asked for water and they refused because she was on an order for thickened water and they had none on the unit. They instead gave her thickened juice which she did not want. If you have orders for a patient to be on a particular product, it seems that you should have those items stocked. The nurse manager on duty seemed genuinely concerned that the staff did not care about her request. There also seems to be a lack of engagement, lack of daily activities for their patients. Additionally, we haven't been able to have skype calls since they locked down shortly after March 8th. They said they tried calling but we never had a missed call from them and phone records can verify this. Also, we were notified that she caught Covid because her roommate had it. Luckily, she survived but communication was very poor to the family members during this ordeal and we're still not able to see her. She has dementia and it hurts my heart that she probably does not understand why we can't see her. Its shameful that this organization cares more about profits than patients. Elderly and rehabilitative clients deserve trusted, quality care and sadly, I no longer have confidence in this organization to deliver on their mission. I wish we were in a place to care for her because she as well as the others, deserve more.

They need to fire Rasheeda and Galina. have trauma to get over from being in their care…read more I was recovering from being paralyzed and not really mobile. I required a hoyer to get out of bed and was suffering from incontinence. Rasheeda would neglect me day after day. She'd leave me needing a diaper change for hours and would often make me late for therapy. She would complain about my needs for help and the fact that I couldn't get myself out of bed. She'd shame me for being incontinent and tell me I created too much work for her. My therapists would beg her for hours to get me out of bed in the morning. But I often didn't get help from her until after lunch. I was in tears at least once a day from the stress of her negligence. She also kept insisting on putting my hoyer sling on backwards. I'd tell her repeatedly that was dangerous and I could fall. She'd get an attitude with me. Finally another aid saw what she was doing and set her straight. Galina would not properly monitor my pain medication. This often resulted in her not ordering enough. I spent quite a few nights in excruciating pain because of this. When I tried to talk to her about it, she would laugh at me. I had a horrible experience at accelerate because of them. Don't put anyone you care about there.

In September 2025, I suffered a stroke, brain bleed, paralysis and so on. Being only 55 years old, my mother and father stepped in to handle my care and decisions. I was unconscious for nearly two weeks, when I woke up I could not move my limbs or talk. Over the past 5 months, my journey took me to a few wonderful care facilities, ALL have played an invaluable role in helping me regain nearly all of my faculties and physicality. This post will hopefully inspire folks going on a similar journey. My true motivation for this post. Is to share my story of hope and heap praise on mostly unnamed faces that do God's work. Huntingdon Valley Skilled Nursing and Rehab...is AMAZING. I simply cannot share how hard these folks work TO MAKE MY LIFE easier. I wish I could share all of their names, but it wouldn't be fair to make such a list in case I left even one person off of it by accident The food is terrific, the camaraderie is even better. THANK YOU TO THE STAFF AND RESIDENTS for the past several months of friendship. As my stay here is not yet over, I may post again with updates to my story. PS - Over the past 5 months I have learned to walk, talk, eat, cut food, blow my nose, roll in a wheel chair, read, write, and yes......TYPE.
