Please, please, please, for your own sake, pass these guys by. Of all reviews I do, this one is…read more*the 'caveat emptor' of the bunch. These guys painted our house. We got a paint grant from Emeryville, they did a bid, and we chose them. It was the worst mistake we could have made--30k later, a few thousand out of our pocket for "additional costs", and one thousand dollars worth of our *own* missing tools (belt sander, etc.) that we had been using inside our house, the house looked like crap. When I questioned choices he was making (like painting raw wood the day after it had been in the rain, for instance), Mike screamed at me. When they "scraped" the old paint off, they did a rotten job. I could reach up and flake the old paint off with my hand even after their 'scrape job" and that is what they painted over. When I brought-up that his guys had keys to our place (the only folks who did at the time) so they could paint the doors, and that all our tools were gone, he said, "Did you *see* them take them? Well, if you didn't, you can't prove anything, can you?", smirking all the while. A year in, the paint failed in a variety of places on the house. I have had to repaint the entire back of the house. He never checked back. My front stairs rotted in places where the paint failed, three months after their job was complete, and the wood had been replaced by him (for additional money from us) during the job. He claimed that we chose the wrong paint for it, despite his recommendations; yeah, because I was just dying to have a paint job fail on my home, of course. Last thing, the old paint had lead in it, and part of what he was doing was lead abatement. We had children in the downstairs unit. He was supposed to seal the windows so the children got no lead dust, and he was supposed to drape around the base of the house to catch the chips that were flaked off. He did neither until I pointed out to his foreman that he could lose his approval to do lead abatement. Of course, he then claimed to the contact at Emeryville City Hall that he had followed procedure. The kids mother and I were swabbing lead dust off of every surface in her place. When she asked him to seal the windows, he screamed (really, literally) at her, too. I was really burned by this guy and his company and it will cost me many times over to keep repairing what he did not do right the first time. He is a bully (talks trash, and leans in like he wants to fight with you--and I'm a woman) and lies like a dog. He hires guys who are real trainwrecks (and I can handle trainwrecks if they are at least somewhat nice). Avoid this guy and his company at all costs, seriously. There are lots of companies that will charge less, give you a better job, and be decent to you in the process.

Stint number one included dry rot repair around the house. We received estimates from several contractors, and Brian's was 60 percent below the next less expensive estimate. He and his crew of two did a superb job of replacing, priming and painting all of the dry rot areas Stint number two was unexpected. We had a small truck crash into our house.Brian came out immediately to survey the damage and was ready to begin work as soon as we got the go-ahead from our claims adjuster. He repaired our garage door and side of garage, constructed a new railing that had been demolished, installed a new mail post and box. All work was done completely to our satisfaction and his invoice was within the claim adjuster's estimate of damages. Brian is now our go-to contractor. Their pricing was extremely competitive and he worked with me to stay within my budget. His flexibility allowed us to move quickly which was very important as we were under a time crunch to move out of our old place and into the new place. We had a really big job, pretty much painting every wall and ceiling in the house including kitchen and bathroom cabinets and all the doors to the house. The walls and ceiling in the house were knotty pine and we wanted to open up the space with a more modern look. Painting wood takes experience and skill with coat after coat of primer and multiple coats of paint to ensure the wood didn't show. After all that work, we asked Reid and team if they could caulk between the wood to make a smoother look but still show the wood. His team killed it! With the extra requests I was concerned that we may be way over budget and not meet timelines, but Reid managed both ensuring we got in on time AND slightly under budget! Our home was perfectly painted 10 years ago by Gary Migale Painting…read morein Novato. Gary has since retired, but a number of the Migale painters then went to work for Bob Kunst Painting. When we hired Kunst for significant interior painting, we asked for one of the former Migale painters, and they were obliging. Kunst send a staff painter, Edgar, to do the work. The painting was top-flight. No big surprise here! Painting tape and painter's paper was everywhere. Then I looked. Not a single spill or wavy margin. This is the quality painting where you cannot tell if a wall or baseboard has been repainted - except that it now looks new again! The painter himself was super courteous, and did everything we asked - and more. For this kind of quality painting, the price was perfectly fair and reasonable. I cannot believe that in years past I hired painters who seemed competent, and charged less, only to find window panes with paint on them, and evidence everywhere of repainting. For those of you who know about matchless quality interior painting, okay, I am preaching to the choir. For those individuals who do not: this kind of painting (from companies like Kunst and Migale) is in another league, and if you can stretch your budget a bit, you will be amazed with the results.
