I heart coffee, usually.
I blame my mum. She always had…read morethose biscuits called Café Noir. And coffee flavoured candy. And vanilla ice cream with a little bit of black java. I still heart those little treats.
I grew up, started working and thought cappucino straight out of the machine at the office was the bomb. Ooh, more/less sugar/milk, Café Latte, even tea tasted awesome from that good ol' Douwe Egberts device.
Then i learned about Starbucks, outside the borders of what i know and love. Everything abroad is amazing, so must be Starbucks.
A world of coffee mixtures was now reveiled.
Coffee Company arrived in the NL and i thought that must be the place i am supposed to work! Then i saw the tired and grumpy faces so i reconsidered. I am much more fun at the front of the counter.
But it keeps haunting me, the Coffee Company. So i keep visiting.
After my mandatory hours of sitting behind a screen and doing the mandatory admin and search for jobs and information at the adjacent public library I find myself in need of a cuppa joe. So I do, no need to restrain myself.
A few days ago I was here at CC and went for the intriguing TONIC ESPRESSO and LEMON CAKE. Disillusion comes in pairs i suppose.
Tonic espresso, the name itself should've set off some alarms. But no. I had to find out for myself. It's the combination that is completely lost on me. Two conclusions derived from this experience.
* First of all tonic should be accompanied by gin, Hendrick's preferably. Always.
* Second. Espresso should be accompanied by some frothed milk. Always.
Mixing tonic and espresso is like spitting on my lemon cake, unnecessary and waste of what could've been good stuff.
Speaking of cake and eating it too, the lemon cake I had to wash away the weird concoction needed some (different kind of) moisture. It was a bit on the dry side and well, kinda 'Meh'. The kinda cake you get at granny's. And you never visit her just for a slice of that cake, do you? You just finish eating your lemon brick politely, whilst smiling at her, knowing she has other qualities, luckily.
That said, I was not planning to come back to CC. After all, CC isn't family so you can stay away and never look back. Forget about its existence and find better breweries.
But here I am. Again. Having my brew and eat the BANANA NUT BREAD too. What a difference a day makes. The espresso macchiato is good, the bread even better.
I won't claim I heart this ESPRESSO MACCHIATO. It is somewhat sour to the taste, but it will suffice. But the BN bread is fluffy and just sweet enough, I would go for seconds if the group of hungry tourists didn't beat me to it. But they did, them wolves.
Leaves me no choice then to lick the crumbs of the plate, pack my bags and leave this joint. I will be back though. And I will take the whole loaf and eat it too.
Ps my apologies for writing as much as i did, i think i had too much coffee, so couldnt stop writing...True story! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
