My friends who live in London were variously in India and laid up with flu. I quickly scored a room at this place online after a panicked search, and after a short and rather beautiful late afternoon cab ride from Swiss Cottage I walked through the pretty Victorian doors to a warm and friendly reception from Norah, went to my clean and cozy little room to unpack to the sounds of the TV, and took a long walk to Archway enjoying the architecture and charm of the high street. The free English breakfast was tasty but three times too big, not a problem I object to, so I spirited it off with me and it sustained me all day. Chris, the morning receptionist, told me how to get the bus for Notting Hill (where I had arranged to stay the next day), and I ended up so happy with the place that I booked additional days there for when I get back from France later this week. I love it when food is free. :) You have a choice of a full English or continental breakfast. Go with the full English, as the continental is just cereal or oatmeal with some toast. Their full English is really good. Did I mention it's free? - Great location as it's right by the Tufnell Park Tube station. I found it really easy to get to the Queens Hotel from Heathrow. - It's quiet. I only stayed here 3 nights, but I never heard noise from any other residents. - Quite safe. They have 24-hour reception. The bad: - The ONLY bad thing about this place is the Wi-Fi. I stayed on floor 2 and their Wi-Fi did not reach up to my room. I wasn't too bothered as I have free international data through T-Mobile, but others with different cellular networks would find this really inconvenient. You can always go down to their lobby to use Wi-Fi if you really need it. I really have no qualms about the Queens Hotel. Others may not like it due to its lack of fancy things, but this place does not pretend to be fancy. It's clean, comfortable, and the reception is very nice and helpful.

It's also two to three blocks from Hyde Park (if you couldn't guess by the name). There are tons of hotels in the Bayswater area. It's kinda like staying in Midtown NYC or near Michigan Avenue in Chicago---lots of tourists and stuff marketed to tourists---tons of souvenir shops, fast food, Starbucks, etc. Whiteley's mall is a few blocks away as well---note: there is a reasonably priced internet cafe there so you can stay connected. It's also VERY reasonably priced for a hotel in central London. I booked a single room (single = twin bed) for four nights (including full breakfast) for about $250. What a steal! However, for any Americans reading this, let me school you on European hotels. Do not assume private bathroom---read amenities, if it doesn't say en suite or private, it probably doesn't have one. Just warning you so you don't end up like Ellen Griswold inviting a stranger into your bubble bath. Nevertheless, Hyde Park Towers does have private bathrooms, or I should say closets. Teeny tiny bathrooms. So small that I had to prop the door open to be able to stand at the sink and had to straddle the pedestal sink to use the toilet. But I'll take teeny tiny to myself than larger with company. My actual room was small, but comfortable. Twin bed, desk, armoire, mirror and a hutch for luggage. Small television with some cable too. Hairdryer included, so I didn't have to worry about bad hair in the already soggy climate or adapter issues. However, there is no clock in the room so I had to use my cell phone to keep track of time. The breakfast was good. They offer a breakfast buffet, but my reservation included a full breakfast. I overslept one day and missed it, oops. There is a restaurant on site, but I didn't eat there. Also, I want to note that there is an elevator so you don't need to haul luggage upstairs. The front desk was friendly and I had no problems checking in or out. The room was cleaned each day, but the housekeepers were loud so I couldn't enjoy sleeping in too late. (Which is just as well, I'm there for London NOT for sleep) The street view of the hotel is just what you expect of London and is really pretty. In the end, it's a nice, but not fancy, good bargain in Bayswater. I would definitely consider staying again considering the price and location.

As with most places in London, the hotel is old. The location was great, just a short walk to the Underground, the rooms are fairly clean and a basic English breakfast was included in the cost (beans, sausage, toast, tea). There was a shared shower and toilet on each floor and the water was not always hot. Unlike the States, most of the world seems to have much lower water pressure and less consistent hot water (a shame, but I suppose it's less wasteful). Helpful tip: You need to bring your own shampoo, conditioner and soap. The staff was satisfactory. They provided basic services and did their jobs, but did not go out of their way to be friendly or helpful. This was not a big deal to me because I rarely stayed at the hotel. At the end of the day, you get what you pay for and it would be unrealistic of me to expect any more from this hotel given the cost per night. London is an expensive city, so Arran House Hotel is a good option for the budget traveler seeking a good location and a place to sleep.

I asked if there was anything i could do and he told me i could cancel the stay but that i would be charged for the first night AND i had to write/send a letter to management with my complaints if i wanted even a partial refund. He said that my room was perfectly fine (hadn't even seen the room had just stepped into establishment) and that because there is no legitimate reason i should be cancelling therefore he would not be providing even a partial refund. Per their policy online, it states that it's "partially refundable. if cancelled after reservation, the cancellation fee will be the cost of the first night. if you don't show up the no show fee will be the same as cancellation fee". No where in the policy is it stated that we had to provide a letter with our complaints and send it to management in order to get even a partial refund for not even staying whatsoever. When i asked to speak to the manager the guy kept saying he was the only one managing the 3-4 hotels nearby and that he was "the manager". I even asked for the managements number and he gave an excuse that one of the bosses wasn't working today so i asked for a different one to which he said he couldn't provide me any of his info. Overall i was understanding that accommodations could not be made however the way the guy spoke to me was disrespectful and appeared untruthful.

The hotel has a basement and at least 4 floors, and the ceilings are 12' high on each floor (not indicated on website). We had a room on the third floor, and when I asked to be moved to a lower floor, there weren't any rooms available. Then the manager berated me for using booking.com (turns out I had booked directly), and went on a long rant about how horrible booking.com was. The last two nights I had to literally crawl on hands and knees up the final flight of stairs, and the last night we got take-out at lunchtime to eat for dinner as I couldn't face going up the stairs another time, so we lost 1/2 day of sightseeing in London. Then, breakfast was in the basement, and there wasn't enough space for all the guests. We were rudely kicked off our table before finishing! Manager was extremely rude and combative about everything and called me names and said I was a liar. Room was incredibly hot with no AC. People in the room above us made a lot of noise. Shower gel in shower ran out on day two and was never refilled. Starting with the first day, we had asked for a twin and manager was put out that he had to take the big bed apart and remake them as twins. Staff at breakfast could not speak English, we had to repeat our order over and over, as did the other guests. Horrible horrible place. Very misleading. Manager should be ashamed of himself. I had to threaten to call the police, as he was following us down the sidewalk as we left, shouting at us.

Definitely should attend if you have a chance. Back to the hotel, the hotel is dirty and the rooms have a lot to be desired. Carpet is old, no dressers in the rooms, no closet, armoire is in the room with enough to hang 12 items and a desk that they want you to use for your drawers. Wallpaper is dirty and old, bathroom was renovated with a very deep bathtub as is very difficult to get in and out of. Towels were worn and old and there was no extra towels left for your use. No amenities in the room other than a shower cap. Hallways leading to our room had torn carpet, and housekeeping left garbage bags on the floor in a corners. They had a shuttle service which was helpful and always available. The village is close as well and their property is very pretty with a garden outside and nearby park. Location is great but honestly going back to this hotel after a day at Wimbledon was depressing. Everyone with our tour felt the same way and was very disappointed with this hotel. If I had to do it over again I would stay in Central London and take the underground to the All England Tennis Club.

(In their classic "Funday-Monday" printed glory, of course.) While words like "classic elegance" and "serene tranquility" should be spilling out of this review, all I can focus on is how amazing my fishy dishy was! The smoked salmon was perfect with capers and a glass of pinot grigio, while the trout was so melt-in-my-mouth delicious that I believe all ability to speak was reduced to primal grunting for a good 10 minutes. (Austen would have been proud, to be sure.) This is a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of central London and I highly recommend spending a day lounging on the patio, sipping white wine, and experiencing an afternoon of Hardy, Brontë (either sister is fine,) Eliot or Tennyson, in a Victorian setting come to life.

Absolutely atrocious experience and still dealing with customer service more than 2 months later…read more Let me preface this with the fact that I book reservations with Premier Inn multiple times a year for different clients and family members. I book online the same way every time and have never had issues like I experienced at this location. I have encouraged all future clients to book elsewhere and will not book any Premier Inn locations again. I made the reservation for 2 clients who were visiting from America. Everything was paid in full and they had the email to prove it. On arrival they were told they owed an additional fee over £200. For that price difference they could have stayed at a 5 start resort in Knightsbridge. They paid the difference as they arrived late at night and were jet-lagged. I arrived in the morning and went to their room so they could show me what they had been given. It was disgusting. There was thick dust everywhere, badly painted walls, mold by the windows and we even found old peanuts under the bed! Absolutely disgusting and thankfully did not trigger one of their peanut allergies. I went to the front desk to discuss the issue and they were offered another room. Needless to say the second room wasn't much better. They had multiple key issues (and no they didn't keep their keys next to their phones), there was no phone in the room so they had to go down any time they had an issue. There was a broken fan in both bathrooms. The toilet seat was broken and coming off. There were also homeless people on the streets below one side of the hotel and they both said you could hear yelling late at night. Not ideal for a week long stay! I came back at the end of their trip to go through the additional charge with the front desk who themselves could not explain it properly. I finally got a manager and asked why my British father (who I booked into the same hotel) didn't received an additional fee but the others did. She didn't have an answer and just said "it's the price" even with me showing her the booking screenshot and confirmation email. After 2 months of dealing with their customer service team, they finally said "we can't discuss any further with you as it's not your name on the booking". So I forwarded all the information to my client and she is still awaiting an answer. At this point I have sent all communication evidence to her so she can dispute the extra charge with her bank. I made 2 reservations at Premier Inn in the same way and my white British friend didn't get charged any additional fees, but my black American clients did. I always aim to give people the benefit of the doubt but this can only be taken one way. Avoid at all costs, especially if you're a foreigner.

Yes, it's a Premier Inn so you're not getting opulent luxury, but it's a great place to get your head down for a night. I stay here when I'm out for work functions or late weeknights rather than return to Southend just to traipse back into London for work the next day. It's south of the river, along Tower Bridge Road and apart from the Costcutter across the road from the hotel, there's not a lot of life in the immediate surrounding area. However, you're only a 15 minute walk from the heart of the City. Because it's such good value it gets booked up so best to check availability early if you want to get a clean, basic room for less than £100 a night.
