Full disclosure: I should have written this review a month ago but couldn't find the time. That…read moresaid, I would be remiss if I didn't sing the praises of the bar staff at this hotel. First, the other stuff: I didn't love the location because I wasn't going to the trade show my husband was attending. It was the perfect location for events at the Excel Center. For sightseeing, not so much. But I highly recommend it for the Excel. The quality is what I expect from Hilton - the accommodations are quite good, the restaurant food is also quite good, and the service is exceptional. So did it exceed expectations? Not much. But my expectations of Hilton properties are extremely high and they met them in every regard save one. They far exceeded my expectations at the bar. And the bar is the point of my review. After an exhausting day of travel (I met my husband at the hotel on the second last day of his trade show) I just needed a drink. I went in to the bar wishing I could get my favorite drink but not feeling very hopeful. I love a proper whiskey sour. A proper whiskey sour is made with egg white, bitters, and a cherry (in my case, several cherries.) Hardly anyplace makes them that way. The common fail is the egg white. I assume people don't want to make them that way because it's hard on the arm; you really have to shake it. A lot. But a proper one is outstanding. So I went over to the bar and inquired. Then I met the staff: Lucas, Marcu, Monika, and Sergio (I must apologize at this point because it took me so long to write this that I can't remember who had which role.) They were all fantastic! When I asked, the manager heard me inquire and immediately interjected. He said he'd be happy to go to the kitchen for an egg so the bartender could make it. When the server brought it to the table it had a cherry but was lacking bitters. So I asked if they had them to add and was immediately assured that she'd take care of it. I also asked for extra cherries. The drink returned a minute later, bitters in a pretty pattern and a pick filled with cherries. It was perfection!!! For the rest of my stay my cocktails were perfect! I ate every meal in the bar as well. I'm sure the service in the restaurant was great, but the bar staff took such good care of me that I didn't want to go anywhere else. My compliments to these individuals! They go above and beyond, making their guests feel valued. I was about to book this hotel for another trade show in September but it's already booked. I'm not surprised. Anyone who has stayed there once would want to stay again. I recommend the hotel, but the bar is a must!

I have spent the past 2 decades digging my way out and finally one night after having seen a friend of mine who could have proved I was innocent get killed I decided to make my break. So I had to crawl over a mile in the most vile stuff imaginable but I came out the other side clean. After collecting money from several banks around the area I left for London. I was thinking about Zihuatanejo in Mexico buts it's become such a tourist trap. So here we are now at the Hartley. In my opinion the Good is 1. The rooms are spacious compared to my cell but not by much. Cleanliness (wow that's a tough one I was a neat freak and except for the dust collected from digging at night I have to say my cell was much cleaner ). The sheets were much cleaner in prison also because I was part of the laundry crew. Except when the sisters bothered me we did a great job. Except for Boggs (the leader of the sisters, real nuisance to me ). cell there was more blood on this mattress than any cell in prison 2. Smell - hands down the Hartley wins. In prison it smells of bleach and other toxic cleaning smells. Who wants to smell lemon and fresh breeze all day. At the Hartley it smelled of pure natural clean body odor and various other delicious moldy smells. 3. Bathroom. This is a tie both places don't have a lock and they were both communal. I felt actually safer in prison after the guards starting protecting me for doing their taxes. Especially after Captain Hadley beat Boggs the leader of the sisters. One of the guys at the Hartley gave me a weird feeling 4 food. - hands down prison. That's with finding maggots in the food. I pretty sure this was just left over stuff they found I the trash outside the night before. 5- Staff. Hmmmm. I'm torn because there was definitely more men behind the counter at the Hartley just staring at you waiting to accommodate your every need it seemed. In prison though I definitely had a great relationship with the guards and warden. I remember one time we were tarring the roof and we just felt like men sipping beer on a hot day. I'll give it to prison So overall I think it's a tie with both having some positives. For now I'll wait for my friend Red but I'll do it at a Holiday Inn after tonight. Let me start review by saying thanks to Tara (Hotel Manager) for doing her best to provide Customer…read moreService. However Hotel management operational standards did not let her excel at her Job. Had to go through lot of unnecessary drama during my stay however i will keep my emotions away and showcase what i found not ok from Guest experience perspective. I originally booked the Hotel for 2 Weeks , Got a fantastic deal. Tara welcomed me at the Front desk, adjusted the pricing for me and gave me a bottle of water. 1) I requested for quiet and bigger room as i am going to stay for 2 weeks, However i ended up in a match box sized room. The front desk folks made me believe that's the best room they got. I would have appreciated honesty in this regard as later i found out there are much Quieter, bigger and nicer rooms available. 2) Elevator on my side is consistently faulty, Thankfully elevator on the other side of the Hotel is working. However its a maintenance problem and customer inconvenience. (It broke down at least for 3 days during my 7 day stay) 3) on Day 4, When i got back to the Hotel in the evening (5 PM) I found water leaking out of the Toilet and not flushing. I am exhausted and repeatedly tried to call the front desk for over 20 mins with no response. I dragged my feet down to the reception to report the problem at 5:30 PM and i got a response that operations are gone for the day and they will arrive the next day morning. Hotel manager did Offer me for a room change. But from my point of view , i am all settled in and if i had to change rooms,i have to pack & Unpack everything. Simple solution should have been calling a plumber and fixing the problem. I am very unhappy at this point. I am tired and my evening which is supposed to be relaxing turned into total chaos for not able to address a simple issue . As a guest , all that i care is not being bothered by unpleasant service related circumstances . 4) Unhappy me told the hotel manager that i would like to check out. Instead of finding a solution , she tried to penalize me for early checkout. This is like putting gasoline in fire. and then disrespected me by offering me free points. I dont care about free stuff, all that i care about is relaxing stay experience. I travelled several miles from home and paid for the hotel not to go through poor service experience. 5) I reported the inconvenience to the IHG Guest relations. and that night Hotel manager moved me to a new Room (spacious). I packed the luggage and moved myself to the new place. It's late in the evening and until the next day i did not look at the cleanliness of the carpet of the room. Hotel manager is not happy that i complained to the guest relations. 6) When i woke up next day i saw massive stains on the carpet in the room. Seriously It looks like Poop & Vomit (Look at the pictures) & appliances in the bathroom are not cleaned or maintained properly. I once again took this to the notice of the front desk and the lady did a walk through and offered me to change rooms again. So the Rooms are Untidy and not clean. It made me question the health regulatory standards in London. Disgusting i must say. 7) That evening they moved me into another room ... again i have to pack all my belongings and drag my tired ass into the new room. Comparatively cleaner but Still got those black stains on the carpet. I once again called the guest relations and updated the ticket with what's going on. 8) The next day, Right infront of the front desk i was confronted by the hotel manager for raising complaint with the guest relations. I dont want to get into the drama that happened But i once again want to say that Hotel manager Tara did her best to provide customer service however she is failed by her management. She doesn't have ultimate power to serve a customer. However i consider this unprofessional. If she had to talk , she should have requested sometime and spoke in the lobby area away from other guests. I did not say nothing about leaving however Hotel Manager said i can checkout anytime i want. Keeping emotions aside, Hotel management is asking me to checkout because i am questioning their untidy rooms and poor operations. 9) I care less about the drama but Hotel tidiness & operations is the most important factor for me. A rather simple solution is being turned into a uncomfortable situation to a customer. I cannot stay at a place where it is hazardous to health and not a relaxing experience. Plus i was unprofessionally treated. At that point i decided to leave the hotel to Marriott brand. Let me tell you, total 360 degree change in experience. My rest of the stay in London is excellent and i highly regret staying at this location and had to go through all the drama in place of Customer Service.

The continental breakfast that came with the room wasn't as good as the breakfasts I've had at the other Holiday Inn Expresses, but I guess it depends on the region/culture. I think the reviewer that mentioned that the thermostat seemed like it was from the 1980s was being generous. It had five tiny buttons to control the temperature with absolutely no indication as to what those numbers did. What temperature will they make the room? Just take a guess! What really upset me and will prevent me from staying here again is one of their policies. I happened to check my email the day I was leaving the country. It was from the hotel stating they were not able to put a pre-authorization on my credit card of one pound (to prevent fraud) and that they would cancel my reservation in 24 hours if they did not hear from me. What happened was that when I made the reservation my card was still good but it was set to expire in a few months (right before my trip). So if I wouldn't have seen this email I would have shown up to the hotel and not had a room waiting for me. In a panic I called all three of the other hotels that I was going to stay at and they all said the same thing, which is that they would never cancel my reservation for something like this. One of those was also a Hilton, which owns Doubletree. So this DoubleTree policy is atrocious. My complaints were not addressed either. they just said it was their policy. There are so many ways this could have been handled better. They knew my expiration date when I made the reservation. They could have contacted me way before the reservation.
