This repair shop lives up to its name. The wall was full of - you guessed it - clocks and watches! All over the wall, ticking away... I was there for 10 minutes and in that time, the shopkeeper changed the battery and adjusted the band on my watch. It was great to see my $9 Skagen watch thrift shop bargain come to life!!! I came here to get the batteries in my grandma-in-law's swaggy(sorry no pix) watch swapped out. Waited around 10 minutes for the gentleman doing the watchwork to finish up with another customer and when it was my turn, gave him the watch, got the battery swapped, and was on my way home in under 5 minutes. 4 1/2 stars. Minus 1/2 star because the repair a bit longer than promised.... First, thanks Ida H for your great five star review for this business. Because of you, I am now a whole person again! ;) Let me explain. I purchased a schoolhouse wall clock about 25 years ago. It has hung in the same spot for that same length of time. So as you can imagine, after looking at that clock hanging on the wall to check the time a few times a day, I did the same several times while the clock was in for cleaning, oiling and repair. The clock pretty much worked fine..but it quit chiming on the half hour...and I missed that 'noise'! So when I read Ida's review I knew that I had found a clock repair shop that I could trust my 'friend' to. I got the clock back today...it just chimed 10 times for 10 pm. It is sooo good to have it home again...all cleaned and oiled, ready to do another 25 years of faithful duty! The only one minor 'issue' that I had was the time that my clock was at the shop. I took it in right around Christmas time...and I could see that the shop was busy. Scott said that he should have it finished by the end of January. Well...finally by the middle of March my clock is home again. Not a real big deal and I am sure that if i needed it sooner he would have made it a priority. But I didn't so he fixed it when he could. Do not let this stop you from taking your watch/clock to this shop. Scott is a great watchmaker. I am sure that he would bend over backwards to take care of you. read more

I have an old wall clock that has been a part of my life since the 1970's. Large and heavy, made of mirror and glass with a swinging pendulum. Even though the modern design is timeless, keeping time had slowed down with age. A decorative border fell off in pieces leaving behind an ugly residue that I thought had damaged the mirror. My boyfriend and I had talked about eventually putting it out to pasture. But I found it hard to do this, so we just lived with it, always giving the wrong time. Well, thanks to my boyfriend, he surprised me by cleaning it up and renovating it's appearance. Then a few days later, we happened upon this watch & clock repair shop in the Country Club Plaza. After talking to the owner Scott An Doan, he assured us that he would be able to replace the clock mechanism and get it working again like new. I was very excited to hear this, so we hurried home to bring the clock in for repairs on that same day. He said it would take about a half an hour and quoted about $42.00. We shopped the mall for a while and stopped by his store a couple of times to check on his progress, but due to his popularity, he had to stop working on the clock to help other customers. We were not impatient and understood the constant distractions. I was actually impressed at how quick he was, to get the walk-in customers takened care of in a timely manner. He seems to really know his stuff and had all the parts and tools of the trade already in stock. He remained calm and friendly even when it seemed stressful. Finally, after about an hour, my clock was up and running. And we paid only $45.00. Well worth it for his expertise repair work and I got my old clock to live again! (Maybe to last for the second half of my life). read more

I brought my Seiko in for cleaning and adjustment. It took about a week and I was assured all was fine. It then lost about 2 minutes an hour. I brought it back and he adjusted it and said it would be fine. Nope. I brought it back a total of 4 times, the last time leaving it for over a week, and it never worked right. Having lost confidence in his abilities, I took it to another shop. He opened it and told me it was still a bit dirty and it was totally dry-no oil whatsoever. I left it with him for a week and when i picked it up, it was keeping perfect time. When I told Express he just said "hm". No defense of his work or offer of a refund. He takes cash only and doesn't offer a receipt or much of a warranty on his work. An expensive lesson. Save your money and go elsewhere read more

Three years ago I received a 25-year recognition watch for my service to the State of California, and wouldn't you know it the crystal cracked, and eventually shattered. I've been going to this guy for a few years. His quality of work was never manificent but I figured since he was only changing out my watch batteries I'd tolerate the work. The batteries he'd install only lasted a few months at best. In the past He'd ask for a receipt because I wanted him to replace the battery at no charge. I didn't have the receipt but he said he'd replace the battery. He remembered me. We didn't fuss with each other and he was somewhat pleasant. Well, two of my other watches had the same issue after a month. Dead batteries. I didn't go in right away because life and kids kept me away. I went in after about 3 months but the ink disappeared from the receipt. Completely gone. He said I had to pay. I told him he said the batteries should last more than a year when I originally paid. I showed him the receipt and pointed out the disappearing ink. He changed our the batteries but complained the entire time. Today, after a few months the batteries died AGAIN and I didn't have the receipt. I told him the ink disappeared and I didn't hold onto the BLANK piece of paper. He said he wasn't replacing the batteries because I could be just anyone wanting a free battery. He was RUDE, DISRESPECTFUL and it's fair to say I'll never be going back there. read more

Do not trust him. We brought my Gucci watch in for a battery replacement. He has worked on this watch in the past without incident. He proceeded to put the watch back together without standing up the stones properly in the face of this beautiful watch. Unfortunately my husband did not notice this until he brought it home and handed it to me. I called Express to bring it back and he claimed he never worked on a Gucci watch and hung up on me.
