As far as that all goes, it's run of the mill with a good selection in all those areas. As you can tell from the name of the place, they also sell toys. I used to love coming in here with Mum when I was a kid and hassling her to buy me random little toys. The range of toys isn't like what you'd see in a department store. It's more cheap trinkets and mid-price action figures that the owners know will sell and satisfy kids for at least a little while. They also sell a good amount of coffee table books on subjects like war history, natural wonders and biographies. Check out the tables outside for specials on stationery, subscriptions and books.

The store sells the usual in wrapping paper, a massive range of cards including all the Hallmark varieties and the full selection of Australian newspapers. Aside from that however, they had a huge selection of journals and diaries, some at discounted prices now that it is getting into 2012. There is also a selection of kids toys and baby gift items which is unusual for a newsagency but well welcomed I think, and something that sets it apart from the others. The other thing I loved was the big range of those massive cards that are ridiculously too big and you get heaps of people to sign them. Alongside that is heaps of bulk buy invitations and thank you notes with heaps of designs and cartoon characters to choose from.

It is also a licenced lottery agenc and no matter how many times I ask for the winning ticket, so far it hasn't happened! On the other opposite side of the counter is the giftware area, which has an adequate range of last minute gift choices.

I must admit up front, I used to be an ABC employee for many years so I do have an inside insight into the workings of our national broadcaster. The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra also used to live at Collinswood but a few years back they moved into stand alone faciliities in Hindley Street in the city. For a time with television, radio and ASO all housed in the one building, the Adelaide ABC was unique in having all three major areas together in the one building. Television wise, the Collinswood studio is home to Poh's Kitchen, Behind The News, the local ABC TV News and 7.30 Report as well as certain amount of content made specifically for the Asia Pacific network. There are staff located at Collinswood specifically for the purpose of making these programs. In terms of radio, 891 ABC Adelaide local radio has its studios at Collinswood. Radio National, ABC Classic FM, Grandstand also have staff and program makers in Adelaide. There is a great canteen inside the building for staff use called Tregenna. It takes its name from the building that used to be on the site before the 8 story monolithic tower was built. While the ABC building isn't open to the general public, there are tours of the Collinswood complex held by and for specific tours groups like schools and Rotary Groups. Annual ABC Open Days and events like Carpark Capers also give interested members of the public the chance to have a look around the facilities. While the store isn't huge, it does have a top selection of magazines across all genres. They even stock my all-time favourite magazine, Lula, which can be hard to find in Oz. There are lots of imports and at pretty good prices too. The staff are super friendly and helpful as well, especially red-head chick (sorry I don't know your name, red-head chick!). Worth a glance even if you're not hoping on board a train.

You can grab bus timetables from here as well and there is probably one of the best ranges of pens at this newsagent too. Was a little disappointed with the small range of cardboard however with another newsagency at Woodcroft Town Center, this isn't too bad. They do dry cleaning here however it can really vary in quality. I have had both good and bad experiences with that program however it generally turns out ok. When I take all the factors into consideration, then this newsagency passes as satisfactory however be forewarned as some things can be below satisfactory (like the service sometimes and the dry cleaning service) whereas somethings can be above satisfactory (like the range of computer and technology magazines and the fact I once found an in-date magazine here below the RRP by $5!!)

Their stand-out sections are sport, cooking, business, biography, general fiction and what they call "military & transport". Like every library, every bookshop has a different focus, so its interesting to see what this one stocks. They also have a great range of fantasy, with all the popular authors and a few new faces, with good prices to match. I almost bought their box set of the first four books in George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Fire and Ice" because it was only $65. My boyfriend reminded me how many books I have at home that I don't need and will have to move with us, so I restrained myself. But oh, I didn't want to. Their children's range is also large, with loads of vampiring teen fiction as well as plenty for early readers. This is a newsagent "plus books" that takes its books seriously. Nor does it slack off on its newsagency responsibilities, providing all the magazines and stationary you would expect.

Wilsons has everything you could want for a book nerd or someone in search of a stellar newsagency. The selection of books is almost overwhelming! There's a huge variety to choose from. The newsagent portion of the store is just as good. Plenty of cards, wrapping, magazines and stationary to choose from. Wilson does not lack anything in this department. The only problem I have is the same problem I have with all bookstores. When are they going to lower the general prices of books? Why are they so expensive? Buying a movie is cheaper, and you usually end up using it more!
