If you've ever been interested in karate, you should stop by. Karate is great not just for Kids…read more but also adults. I joined just about 3 years ago and it was one of the best decisions I've made. Kids and adults will learn self defense, discipline, respect. Develop confidence, strength and self esteem.

From the owner: PKSA Karate is one of the largest martial organizations in the country. We are professionals at…read morechanging people's lives through our martial arts schools. You see, for us, it's not just about kicking and punching, but actually changing and improving our students' lives. Where else or what other type of activity can you be involved in that will give you and/or your child more confidence, discipline, self-esteem, leadership skills, teamwork, and an improved fitness level while having fun and learning to defend yourself in this violent society that we live in today? You get all of that at PKSA Karate. All of our instructors are trained in ways to bring out the best in you and your child, and our curriculum will make you the very best Black Belt that you can be. In addition to our regular karate classes, we offer several different programs that you and/or your child could be involved in: Traditional weapons courses - where you learn to use traditional martial arts weapons...kids and adults love these courses and it adds a special new element to your training. Little Ninjas Course designed for children 4-6 years old. This is a great course to teach martial arts, life skills and more all in a very fun and engaging way. Bully defense - this helps to teach children and teens how to handle altercations with people who bully.

Birmingham Martial Arts was doing one hour sessions at Shain Park in Downtown Birmingham during the…read moresummer of 2020, so we checked it out. The manager came right over and introduced herself and our son joined the session. She was friendly and she informed us about the outdoor classes due to COVID-19 and we signed our son up on the spot. After about four sessions I noticed that our son was spending an accumulated forty-five minutes waiting in line to do the movements that the instructors were having him do. For $110 per month I was hoping for him to be much more active. The pillars listed on their website are self-esteem, discipline, focus, respect, & fitness. There wasn't enough activity for them to hit the pillar of fitness. So, we canceled the membership. They had too many kids and not enough instructors. They did other things like playing dodgeball and carrying punching bags to and from a marker, which were good activities, but I can't get over the lack of activity for most of the sixty-minute sessions. The owner had a group of teenagers and he was doing synchronized kicks and punches with them during these one hour sessions and that looked awesome. But, the kids in my son's group were getting the shaft. I understand the importance of teaching good technique, which the instructors were doing well, but if you have young kids who have trouble doing jumping jacks with good form then it is likely that they won't be able to do kicks and punches with good form. It would have been much better to have them do five-minute routines that included various movements like punches, kicks, squats, burpees, push-ups, lunges, etc. I gave three stars because the manager was kind and personable and the instruction was good and they refunded us the $110 for the next month after we had cancelled during the previous month. But, for my money I would rather have my son do something where he is almost constantly moving.

Tony is fantastic and very patient with the students. He makes the classes both fun and challenging. The class is also a great cardio work out for our active boys, and at the same time teaches respect and discipline. We highly recommend BMA!

It's a down to earth gym. No influencers weirding it up with their content. Get a membership here…read moreand get after it.

I think all these good reviews are written by the staff. Reality is very different! When you go on…read moreline you see a beautiful gym, they have been marketing a lot lately with AI, enhancing features to the trainers, making the facility seem clean and polished. The pictures show the reality (there was a previous picture of a big rusted hole in a women's locker, that was reported 9 months ago and is still there!) Buckets and towels all over the place when it rains, holes in the drywall above the walking track, stained ceilings, etc. They say the pool is heated, it's always really cold (Someone posted that on face book and they took down that comment immediately, they do that with negative comments). They also say that the place is cleaned every evening, you might want to get a refund and find a new cleaner! The owners are very rude and the manager can be rude at times also. The gym members are typically older and have been going there for years, yet they are putting on new classes aimed at the younger crowd! And don't get me started on the smell, it hits you as soon as you walk in the door, smells like someone or something died in there and it also smells of mold. And no air conditioning. Very surprised the city has not shut this place down! So, if you are looking for a slightly higher prices gym, that is dirty, run down and smelly with no air conditioning, this is the place to do. Don't believe me, just go and tour the place.
