I called prior to the weekend and asked if I needed a reservation and was told it was fine to walk-in too. We walked in on Friday night around 9pm and was greeted with friendly and fast service. They also made sure our gear fit well (boots). I was wondering why they were not as busy and the other place nearby was packed but I'm not complaining about that. We were very pleased with the rental skis and boards and will definitely go back again. The service was equally friendly and fast when we returned our gear when we were done. I walked in and it was good service but I thought the head manager (jc) would know how to get you a nice sized board that fits you, well I was wrong he gave me a junior board and a Helmet that didn't fit me and I asked if I can try it on and he said no your all set. I paid for a full day and a half day the next day and it came out to be 140 dollars. I checked on there website said it was only gonna be 88 dollars for those days, so that means the helmet was 50 dollars. The next day one of are buddies got sick and so we couldn't go, so we called that night and they said we could get a refund. I came to the place to get my refund for the half day like they said we could last night. The manager came out (Jc) and said no we don't do refunds. This place is a scam! Don't go here, I promise you there's better places. read more

Skied one day at Sugar Mountain on Wednesday Feb 11th. Weather was perfect, sunny day, temperature around 50. Check in process was easy with the computer system. Total price to rent skies, boots, poles, helmet, and damage insurance was $35,23. Equipment worked great on the slopes, no problem returning the gear. To anyone having trouble with the rental places and skiing, it's best to go mid week, and to arrive early to pick up your gear. This is common sense, but it seems most of the horrible reviews are those who go on the weekend and have to wait in line. read more

Booked in advance but still had to wait in line for over two hours only to tell us when we got to the front of the line that they were out the snowboards. Check-in was easy, painless and I was really impressed with their level of customer service. 3 of 4 in our group had never skied before but the guys were awesome, patient and really friendly to work with. High quality products, with a custom fit and felt great on the slopes of Sugar Mtn with a bluebird day of 41 degrees. Avoided any lines at the resort for equipment. Beware of rude people! Website says they close at 11 pm, we live out of state and had no idea that the NC government applied a 10 pm curfew. This would have been fine but when we showed up and they were still inside at 10:15 pm they offered no apology and had no compassion that we drove 6 hours in preparation to rent from them before 11 pm, again what thier website says is closing hours. The main fact is they are rude and don't care to loose customers. Go elsewhere, Ski Shack took great care of us. read more

Extreme is the best snowboarding shop in the southeast. Period. As an Asheville native and current resident as well as ASU alumni, I know Western North Carolina's mountains and boarding shops well. I was also a member of the ASU Snowboard Team for four years and president for two, a team that has placed in the top five in the nation multiple times and is one of the only teams in the southeast ever to do so. Without a doubt I would say Extreme stands well above the rest of the shops in this part of the state. To get to that level of competition requires the highest level of equipment available and an excellent service provider to keep it finely tuned and maintained. We purchased all of our equipment through Extreme and trusted them to provide us set-ups tailored specifically to our demanding needs. They went above and beyond in performing this task, surpassing our expectations time and time again. Most importantly, we only trusted Extreme to tune and repair our equipment. To a true snowboarder, your boards are as near and dear to you as if they were your own children. To put them in someone else's care shows the highest level of trust imaginable as well as the faith that they are in the hands of true professionals. My husband, father, and I took a ski trip this past weekend and we rented our gear for 3 days from Extreme. We got development skis for me, performance for my dad, and a development snowboard package for my husband. It was only $216 after tax!! So that started my experience off on a great foot! They fitted me for boots based on my shoe size and off we went for a quick little night ski warm up at Appalachian Ski Mntn. The boots were pretty tight on me. I was having some trouble with my toes falling asleep but it was okay for the 4 hours we spent at App. We went back the next morning before we hit up Sugar Mntn to get a bigger boot for me. I was complaining about pinching in my calf from the new boot and they decided to upgrade me in a performance boot free of charge. Another brownie point for Extreme! Unfortunately, I am not an experienced skier and do not have the muscles to withstand the constant bent knee when walking around in the boot and by the time we made it all the way to the lift to put on our skis I was in complete agony. My calves were on fire and I could not get my skis on. So my father and my husband hopped on the lift and I went back to Extreme (thankfully right across the street from Sugar!). When I walked back in they obviously knew something was wrong. They promptly took care of me and while fitting me for a new beginner boot the guy noticed I was wearing ankle socks. I did not bring my long socks because the boot was so warm the night before I didn't think I would need it. He told me I needed to wear long socks but since I didn't have any he gave me a pair from the shop for free! I walked out happy as a clam and was ready to tackle the day at Sugar! Everything went great the rest of the day and the day after we went to Beech Mountain! I didn't have any issues after the third boot fitting. The employees here are absolutely amazing and so knowledgeable. I rate this place a million stars!!!! read more

Rental prices were what would be expected. Rentals were in pretty good condition. Location convenient for Sugar Mountain Skiers. Customer service was lacking to say the least. Tyler helped us with our rentals and his attitude was a real turn off. His facial expressions made it obvious that he was annoyed to be helping us but it seemed like he didn't wnjoy helping anyone period. I would avoid this place in the future just to avoid this guy. I should know, I called them three times prior to our arrival with questions and they never made me feel as if I was an interruption to their day. The equipment is the latest technology at very competitive pricing. I should know that too since I researched all the other local rental facilities prior to choosing Extreme. Once we arrived, picking up our equipment was simple. We rented skies, poles and boots which were brand new. I highly recommend the Performance boot for the few extra dollars. They were extremely comfortable even for someone that has chronic foot pain. If you also happen to be in the market to purchase ski equipment, they have a large selection to choose from. Owing to thick fog we found ourselves in the parking lot this past Monday at Extreme Snowboard & Ski after missing a turn up the road a piece. My girlfriend conveniently decided that she wanted some new ski goggles, so into Extreme we went. The selection at Extreme is very good and everything appeared to be reasonably priced. I bought a pair of super awesome Dakine gloves because they were affordable and put to shame the ones I had at the time. She got a slick pair of goggles on sale for only around $30. The staff was friendly and helpful- even asked where we were from, etc. New Year's Eve morning we were heading to Sugar for a day of skiing and we decided to stop at Extreme to get our skis since we were already behind schedule (Extreme, I should note, is almost directly across from the entrance to Sugar Mountain and they have a really cool computer program for renting skis that expedites the process). It took us less than 10 minutes to get set up and fitted for skis and then we were on our way to the slopes. Here again, the staff was very courteous and engaged us in conversation about our trip and our skiing experiences. Also notable, I believe the rental prices were comparable- if not cheaper- than at the resort. After a short lunch break at the resort, we went back out to attack the slopes for the remainder of the session. Much to our dismay, someone had taken my girlfriend's rental skis. Long story short we spent the next hour searching, filling out security reports, and standing in line at Sugar to get her another set of rentals for the last hour of skiing. I called Extreme to see what we needed to do; Will was very kind and assured us that it happens all the time and that someone likely picked up the skis by accident and they would probably be returned. Will also provided us with the specific information about the rental skis to include on the security report. Later at Extreme, less one pair of rental skis, Will and the staff were again courteous and professional. Will even tried to contact the owners by phone for me to talk about the charge for lost (stolen) skis. In the end, we were charged for the lost skis, but assured that there was a 98% chance they would be found and returned. Most fortunately, we got a call from Sugar yesterday morning and the skis were found. Extreme has promised to refund the charge for the lost skis as soon as possible; and, if their stellar customer service to this point is any indication, I suspect they have already authorized the refund. This was my second time coming to ski in boone. My husband and I came all the way from Texas and decided to rent our skis and bib from here as oppose to at the resort. There was multiple computers right when you enter which makes it easier to sign in and type in your info and what you're planning to rent. We did a half day rental on our skis. What we loved about this rental place compared to others is there was a large selection, everything was very clean/organized and there was lots of staff to help out and make things go smoothly. The gentlemen that helped us was very friendly and professional. He adjusted the skis perfectly for the ski boots. When we came back to turn everything back in, it was a very quick and easy process. I recommend this rental place over others in the area. If I make the trek from Texas to Boone again, I will be renting from Extreme Snowboard & Ski. Thank you guys! read more

Before driving the 45 minutes to Extreme, we called first and were quoted $99.00 for a youth snowboard rental for the season. I confirmed the price to the employee on the phone and I was assured it was correct. We arrived at Extreme and were treated very well by the employee we had spoken with. However, when we were checking out we were informed the price is actually $169.00. We had been misquoted on the phone, even though we double checked with the employee. He felt bad and checked with the manager but said there was nothing to be done. With a $140.00 difference in cost, we left without any negativity or arguing on our part. However, I called the manager 5 minutes later to convey my frustration, which I did so nicely. She offered to call the owners, did so immediately and called me right back. The owners offered a 15% discount for our trouble. For me, that is unacceptable for a retailer to do. I believe they should have honored the price quoted, especially considering we drove 45 minutes for the price. We will take our business elsewhere (plenty of places) and pass along our opinion to friends. With that said, the employee was fantastic and the manager did all she could do. Our beef is with the owner'r short sided offer of 15%. We live in the High Country and have 3 kids under 10. The owners could have happily honored the quote and kept our business for the next 20 years. read more

The weekend of Oktoberfest 2011 was awesome in the mountains. After spending some time at Sugar for brats and beer, we headed to the Extreme Snowboard and Ski shop for some shopping. This was my first time in the shop, I needed boots. We were fortunate that Kim was there as well as the Atomic Rep. I do apologize for not remembering his name. Between the two of them I learned more about the new boot technology in two hours than I had known in a life time of skiing. The boots performed exceptionally well during the ski season. Kim and all the staff I have dealt with since then have been courteous and professional. Looking forward to a few more visits to the shop this season.
