If you do not get an appointment with the right doctor, plan on being there awhile. Even if you have been a patient for a few years.

I called my optometrist in Florence and they recommended going to their Madison location, Specs of Madison. They made my appointment with Dr. Ocampo and worked me in to her schedule. I should have known the office would be amazing! Their offices in the Shoals are unlike anything I've ever seen. Specs of Madison is beautiful! It is definitely not your average eyecare office. Dr. Ocampo is a wonderful doctor. She is very attentive and professional. She performed my exam quickly but thoroughly and had me on my way with a fresh pair of contact lenses in my eyes. What's better is that they placed the order from the Madison location and I can pick them up at any of the offices (2 locations in Florence, Muscle Shoals, Tuscumbia or Madison) or have them delivered to my home. Convenient!!! I highly recommend Dr. Ocampo and Specs of Madison!

Overpriced and overhyped lobby that I'm sure is built in the price of their services. Biggest gripe is with Dr. Ocampo. Prescription seems to change every year and not necessarily due to progressive eye deterioration despite my best efforts to provide her accurate feedback during examination. Also her demeanor is not friendly/helpful. Very obvious she is not interested in taking questions as answers are short and curt. Then off to the next payment, I mean patient, I suppose. I will give anyone a pass for having a bad day but three appointments in three years and the same below average experience each time. I simply do not feel comfortable continuing to see her.

They didn't have my lenses available to try, which honestly is typical and no big deal, I have been wearing them for years so I know what works for me. I also really enjoy the convenience of immediately getting my rx text to me, and no pressure to buy anything that day. Fast forward 6 months I bring my daughter for her exam. Great experience again, but with hers she needed to come back for check of her contacts and that's when the service dropped. It should have been a quick check. We waited in the tiniest room they have for about 30min past the appt time. I feel like they didn't actually have a spot for her and just squeeze the recheck in to a full schedule. Super nice doc, but super late. Hard for a school day. All in all we like the doctors and staff, the delay was a little annoying.

I don't always do the testing but sometimes I do. Well, today I went back for it just to check on it. Dr. Kennedy interpreted the test results to me and said I had several high risk factors and wanted to prescribe a medication to prevent the development. I said I needed to think about this and asked for a summary of what she was telling me and a copy of the test results, just for my reference to think about. She got very offended and started raising her eyebrows at me, speaking in a stern tone telling me that that I should do what she was telling me because my doctor told me to. I simply wanted a chance to take a breath, research the medicine, talk to my husband, and make a decision. I'm not the type of person to decide something in the room with the doctor at the moment they say to do it. She told me she didn't have an email address associated with her practice and they would send the results to my primary care doctor at the time she was seeing me. When I told the girl at the front I didn't want to schedule a follow up (because after her reaction I definitely wanted a second opinion), because I was going to think about this and maybe ask another doctor, she immediately didn't want to help me anymore. I waited a few weeks to make sure my doctor and I got the information. After having to call, I got all my results emailed to me. Dr. Kennedy is a pushy doctor who doesn't respect patient boundaries.

I have always heard Pearl Vision was a great choice in the area but I could not recommend or trust…read morethis business going forward. I went here because my insurance was taken and covered the cost of most of my frames/lenses. To start, the building is nice and the selection of frames is also nice but do not go here expecting budget friendly frames. Even their in house brand is significantly more than other in house brands from other places. They do carry a large amount of designer brands though so if that's your thing, there's that. However, the negatives are mostly everything else. Dr. Appel is pretty straight forward and not too personable, that can be a pro or con depending on who you are. But his exam room is very small and a little disorganized and just didn't give me a very professional feeling. As well, on his prescription he does not provide your pupillary distance, the salesman gets that later on, and while Alabama is not a state that requires an eye doctor to provide this on a prescription, it is MY personal medical information and I should have the right to it without asking instead of you, and most eye doctors to be fair, keeping that as a secret formula to make sure you have a hard time ordering glasses from somewhere else. Thankfully, sites like Zenni have a great digital PD measuring system that has provided the same results as it being measured in store. The biggest negative is their salesman, I do not remember his name, but I overheard that he's been there for years. First off, he smelled VERY much like cigarette smoke and I saw him take multiple smoke breaks while there for the exam and when picking up my glasses. I get it, people still smoke, but when I'm sitting in front of him to complete my order for 30 minutes it's very overwhelming. As well, his sales tactic is VERY sketchy. I'm in sales myself, have been for my whole working life. I would never lie or add in a feature without telling the customer or asking if they wanted it. The salesman added the more expensive lenses to my transaction without telling me and told me my total and asked for my card. I questioned him on why it was so much because I had done the math on how much it would cost with my insurance and the -- $10 lens -- fee from my insurance. He wanted me to pay almost $100 for the "thinner" and "better" lenses. I told him I wanted the regular lenses and that I would not be paying for the more expensive ones because I have always had the regular lenses and never had an issue. He scoffed and said "well no one ever gets those. They're just cheap and not good at all. They also don't come with a warranty." I ensured him I wanted the lenses that were included with my insurance and he reluctantly removed the more expensive option. After doing this, I looked at my receipt and guess what? They do in fact come with a warranty. So that was obviously a lie. Lying to sell a product like that and adding on a premium feature without disclosing it to the consumer can in many courts be tried as Theft or Fraud by Deception. So, for the sake of your company, maybe talk to him about that. Overall, not happy obviously. Glasses frames are nice but that isn't a reflection on them, that's on Ralph Lauren Polo, and the plastic "cheap" lenses are doing just fine and are actually thinner and lighter than any plastic lens I've had before so I guess there's a plus, but also a clear contradiction to the sales pitch. Save your money, get your prescription and buy from an online dealer.

Last fall I switched to Schaeffer Eye Center located in the Providence area of Huntsville. The service was fantastic and although the selection of frames is less than Lenscrafter's, Schaeffer still had a good selection to choose from. The thing that surprised me the most when I bought my glasses was the low price. Given Schaeffer's is not a nationwide franchise I expected the prices to be higher, but to my surprise they were much lower. So good service, adequate selection, and low price. Overall very good. Moving from last fall to today: I was working in the yard and a large piece of concrete hit my face and scratched my glasses. I went back to get a new pair and the lady checked my file and said the glasses were under warranty and they would order new lenses for me. What a pleasant surprise!
