As it turned out, only 6 of the group decided to come to the hotel for food, so we weren't as cramped as we'd thought. The standard of food was excellent, I was particularly impressed with my starter of scallops, which were beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. For mains, I decided on a whim to try the veggie curry, which was tasty although I found it a teensy bit on the dry side. But full marks to the Collingwood for accommodating us all on a busy Friday evening.

The Molton brown gift was amazing - a proper box of normal sized goodies. The bar was nice and cosy and the wine prices were really great for a hotel with the price of bottles ranging from £13 to £20 so we settled down with a bottle of Chenin blanc and let the afternoon pass! We got ready for dinner and went downstairs to the bar - which was heaving surprisingly! So the lovely waitress took us through to the library and took our order while we sat in front of a toasty real fire. The pink mojito was I am afraid to say really disappointing - there was no crushed ice in it as is usual but a few sad melted cubes who were not doing their job. However dinner time was here and the menu looked really great. We were told by the waiter that it was only lamb which carried a supplement and all other dishes were included in our deal - fantastic value so we couldn't resist the starter of scallops, black pudding and pea purée. It was awesome! Three huge juicy perfectly cooked scallops with spicy soft black pudding and fresh crushed peas. What's not to like?! For mains we went for steak, I had the ribeye cooked to medium perfection with crisp onion rings, chips and peppercorn sauce. Boyfriend had the amazing fillet beef which was delish although slightly over done for his liking with truffle mash. They were both great. We were stuffed but couldn't resist pudding and put away a fabulous creamy baileys and Malteser cheesecake that was exactly what was needed to finish off a pretty perfect dinner. We had a comfortable nights stay and a great brekkie the next morning - full English cooked to your order. Only thing was the bacon was too crispy for my liking - but that's just my preference so that's ok. The food in the Bistro and at breakfast is fantastic, it's a shame I didn't manage to try the tweed restaurant as the bar was set very high. The room was very large, as was the bed with very good furnishings and large bathroom. It fell down on the extremely weak shower performance and an old, low down TV. The location by old Abbey and the grounds of the hotel are simply spectacular. With views and grounds like these why would anyone need a TV? The hotel will loan cycles and rods for those who want to fish or explore the area. Although don't forget that fishing for Salmon or Sea Trout on a Sunday is still illegal in scotland. The hotel room guide also quaintly reminds you that although they allow legal fishing, it is 'unethical to fish for trout on a Sunday' I'd love to give this hotel 5 stars but cannot bring myself to do so as the shower was just too poor. However, would I go back? Hell yes, this is the best hotel experience I've had in a long time and will seek it out if I'm ever in the Borders again.

Our room was a standard room I think, on the ground floor. It was very spacious with a bed roughly the same size as China, 2 armchairs and a dressing table. The bed and pillows were so comfortable I could happily have taken them home! The bathroom was also spacious and well-equipped, my one complaint would be the water pressure of the shower (slightly like a kitten licking you clean!). We did not dine in the restaurant but attended a Christmas party night in the hotel - the food was fantastic, surprisingly so, as these buffet style things are usually not up to much. The main course of buffet carvery beef and turkey was fantastic - the beef melted in the mouth! Breakfast was a little disappointing (who on earth toasts potato scones!?) but plentiful. The grounds are beautiful, have a stroll around. The staff were very helpful and friendly especially the front desk staff. All in all I would recommend it, and would return here for a romantic weekend or to relax.

French doors opened to a small shared garden that were able to let some lovely fresh air into the room. Curtains were drawn for privacy when we needed it. Breakfast each day was wonderful. Full English cooked to order, with pastries, juice, tea, coffee all available. The dining room was clean and not too cramped, and had the most incredible view of the ocean. Starting the day with that never got old. The bar was excellent, with the barman able to rustle up a long list of cocktails. He was a really friendly guy and we chatted quite a bit both nights. A real boon to a small hotel off the beaten tracks a bit. We walked up to town one evening, a really pleasant stroll along the path, with view of Bamburgh Castle in the distance. The small town has a few interesting little places to look at. Parking is a little tight, but manageable. At least it is on-site and off the street. All in all a really enjoyable stay and wouldn't have changed anything. Its a short drive to Bamburgh, conveniently remote and peaceful, with tranquil relaxation.

Two doors and a hallway separate the hotel from the pub, ensuring that none of the restaurant noise reaches the rooms. There is a post office right across the street and a news shop just down the block, and Thirlestane Castle is a short walk. We had dinner (haggis bon bons and steak pie) and breakfast (full Scottish) at the restaurant and everything was perfect. Highly, highly recommended.

We wer moved to the opposite end of the park beside the river - opposite the swan pond with the rowing boats on it. After a weekend of golfing, walking, boating and the usual playing games at the amusement arcade - I would definatley recommend this park - in fact we are going back this year with our year old son.

I would avoid the 'cheap' newspaper offers as these usually end of quite expensive once all the extras are added and accommodation is basic. The caravan site itself has so much to offer including stables, a boating pond, golf course, chinese buffet restaurant, fast food takeaways, pub style restaurant, a few different bars, amusement arcade and supermarket. Id recommend getting your supplies before you go though as most things on the park are fairly pricey.
