Normally, I would tackle these home improvement jobs myself but simply didn't have the time. After contacting Jay I received a fast and quick response and was able to get a tech out in a couple hours. The technician took less than 5 minutes to do a visual assessment and told me the entire motor and rail system had to be replaced because it was "old," which was a red flag since he barely looked at it and didn't bother to test it out. I was quoted around $1600 for installation and new parts. After asking how long it will take to fix, the tech said "about an hour." It made me question why it was so expensive to do a one hour job (new parts under $400). I decided to say "no" and told the tech that I'd rather just save some money and fix the problem myself. The tech went on by saying the new motors from Lowe's/Home Depot are last years models and aren't as good as the models they order.... Hmmm... Then I was offered a pretty significant discount to $750!! I still kept my decision and opted not to get my garage fixed by these guys. As soon as the tech left, I decided to assess the issue and found that the rail carriage just needed to be replaced. I found the part for $15 on Amazon and was able to fix the issue in less than 20 minutes. I can't imagine the amount of people that fall for this kind of service. Would be a one star, but I can't knock em for a quick response time.
