My granddaughters and I went to Mike D's Antiques and Estates in Gastonia on 321. The owners were extremely rude and racist. They followed us around the store, talking down to us. He began to talk about how one of the booth owners was moving to England and proceeded to make a horrible comment about Mexicans. My granddaughter calmly told him that it was offensive and she did not appreciate it because she is Mexican. He said "I know", got defensive and continued to make racist comments. They then told us to leave and not come back. They are very nasty people. Would not recommend.

The house was full of unsold items, and understandably so. A previous sale in Waxhaw was of a model home, and again, nearly-new prices were being asked. I did not stick around long enough to see if anything major sold.

For the 35% fee they charge I was told they would clean, organize, advertise, and take care of all the selling details. On first meeting we discussed pricing, and I was very clear that I was more interested at selling what we could get to at decent prices, as opposed to some who I know just need to get rid of everything quickly. We had agreed that prices should be between "reseller" prices and "collector" prices, but most were too low. When I was told that lots of the currently hot items would probably sell within the first hour, my reaction was that the price was then obviously a bit too low. I was told that wasn't necessarily true. Really? I had a LOT of stuff. Of the many prep days they were here (about 10am-3ish each of those days) on only 1 day did they come in and clean items. About a third were not cleaned OR PRICED when sale day came around. The furniture mover they have mentioned he had broken his phone, in his pocket, against a huge set of keys, while moving my buffet. He also did some pretty decent damage to the veneer, which was never addressed. He was also the picture hanger, who hung the most random assortment ever placed; some pairs were separated, some pictures set up sideways. Most of the grouping of like items I did myself, along with running 8 loads through the dishwasher so items would be sparkling clean and grouped in a way that would be attractive to buyers. Isn't that the whole point? On day 2, they offered a discount, but I was told by the Ace owner that they had already discounted "bundled" items on day 1, which I had specifically stated I did not agree to. What it comes to, is that I COULD HAVE OPENED THE GARAGE DOORS WITH TABLES OF DUSTY ITEMS MYSELF and had a garage sale, at garage sale prices, as many of these were priced. The Ace woman in charge of setting it all up was upset with me for not having more of the items I was separating (keep / sell) out of the way, and yet there were literally HUNDREDS of things not cleaned or priced come sale day. It would have been a fair price for their work at a lesser percentage, for the time unboxing and the tables set out, and for advertising, but 35 % was way too much. I would not recommend this company.

Instead of getting in line Nancy chose to sit on the front steps of the home. Considering she was talking to the first few customers that was not a problem. The problem came in when Nancy decided to be one of the bad estate sale customers and cheat when it came time to take a number. She knew her place and number in line but reached up to take a number prior to her turn. Surely nothing inside the sale could be enough to show estate sale customers that for Nancy Baldwin disgracing herself and her company was worth it. Be a better person Nancy.
