For a long time, I have had mixed feelings about my bank, and had I written a review before this, I…read morewould have rated Commonwealth One at 3 stars. However, with a recent change in the ATM card policy, I'm feeling a solid 4 star rating all the way. For years, I have begged the banking-powers-that-be for an additional ATM card as a backup in case my card was lost on one of my back backing trips through Asia or Eastern Europe. "Look, I promise that I will place it in my backpack's secret compartment. I swear I will only use it if my other card is lost on one of my trips." "Our policy is to issue one card per member." "What if I were married and my wife and I had a joint account?" "That's different. You would need two cards then." I wanted to point out that I was being discriminated against for being single, that there was more chance of my imaginary wife misplacing an extra card than myself, but I could see that it was a waste of time. I would just have to live with the fear that without a backup card, I might one day find myself begging on the streets of Delhi or selling fans to tourist in Hanoi. I resigned myself to the fact that I would forever be at the mercy of the Commonwealth One Banking Leviathan. Of course, that was until recently when I went to see Heidi about another banking matter. I mention my issue with the second card only in passing, and she responded, "I think I can fix that." I chuckled, "Knock yourself out if you want, but I've tried and nothing works." She smiled and said she would give it a try, and the next day she called saying that my second card had been ordered. All I could say was that I couldn't believe it. I have to confess that I had been thinking about changing banks, but with this level of customer service, I may just stick around for another 20 years.
