Hear ye fabric lovers! I've found heaven on earth. My mom recently discovered a post by this company on instagram and discovered that it has recently opened to the public. So of course, we had to go check it out. This is literally a labyrinth of every fabric and sewing accessory imaginable. With floor to ceiling shelves, you could spend an entire day in here. The staff were also lovely, and very helpful. Might I add that the prices are WICKED. My only criticism was that there was a very limited selection of quilting cotton. This is the majority of the fabric I purchase, so I was a bit sad that there was only one small section to choose from. However, if you are into a variety of sewing projects this is the place for you!! read more

For context, this is the second time me and my partner have been to the store. The first time we went, one of the employees acted very bothered every time we asked for help, whether it was finding items, asking for lengths of fabric, or changing our minds about the items we were still considering. We decided to ignore it, and went again about a month later. We were looking for materials to make monster hunter leather armor. We had found the perfect leather, and were told to put it aside until we were finished shopping by another employee. It was left on a side table at the back, after being explicitly told that we had access to it. We came back after half an hour of shopping, and the same employee who set it aside was selling it to another person. When confronted, both employees doubled down and told us that we were wrong, and that they were going to sell it to another customer. We repeated what they had told us originally, but they kept insisting that we had not communicated at all. The other customer also became upset and left without buying any leather due to their behaviour. One of them proceeded to tell me "Ninety Six dollars" per square meter, when they had said eight dollars to the other customer. When we went to pay, we explained to the employee our concerns, and why we ended up not buying anything. He again became very argumentative, calling us liars, and then simply refusing to engage in any conversation, however helpful or constructive it may have been. Overall, I would never recommend this store, which is unfortunate due to their wide variety of fabrics. read more

I went to Fabric Depot a few weeks ago because their website was the only fabric store website that listed what I was looking for. I just wanted some fringe for trimming a dress but no other website offered this item. I needed to make a costume from the 1920s. This place was amazing, both wonderful and mysterious at the same time. The store is crammed from floor to ceiling with everything from fabrics to fur, trims and fringes, ribbon and lace, and it just goes on. The staff are great. I had no idea where to start but when I told them what I needed they led me through narrow corridors of stuff that branched off into different areas just waiting to be explored. Eventually we reached a room that was floor to ceiling with trims and fringes galore. I found what I needed and the staff were very helpful but not pushy or in a rush. They let me use one of their tables to sort through my selections. Long story short, I found what I needed at a good price in about 20 minutes but spent over an hour exploring all the great products they sell. I picked up a few other decorations for my dress at very reasonable prices. The best part, I didn't make it to the second floor. I am definitely going back. This place is a craft person's dream especially if you build your own Halloween costumes! And it is a fun place to explore for an afternoon. read more

I live outside of the city, north west of Calgary, and specifically made a trip to Fabric Depot, having read the reviews (embellished I might add). It was such a disappointing experience. Granted the fabric and notion supplies are huge, the store is in complete disarray!! I could possibly deal with that however when seeing the inflated prices and finding out there's a minimum half metre requirement when purchasing fabric, not to mention unfriendly customer service, this will be my first and last visit to Fabric Depot. Not worth the time or gas. read more

I highly recommend this store. I had a very difficult time finding the right color and quality of the material I needed to reupholster dining room chairs. I found exactly what I needed in 10 minutes. It is the staff here that make this place fantastic. As a wheelchair user I could not get in the front. One quick phone call and was asked if I could come around the back to the shipping doors. An extremely nice and accommodating man let me in the back. I gave him a sample of my shower curtain and he pointed me to the two rows of material. Walking in here is like entering the enchanted forest of the sewing world! There are all sorts of flowers, and jewels, and I don't even know what, adorning the walls of their showroom. Its almost mesmerizing. Its hidden away in the commercial area right behind Smashburger. This is a wholesale business but they are open to the public. You can buy in large quantities like entire rolls of lining and various sundries that you use in sewing or just pick up one of the trinkets on the wall if that suits your fancy. The staff were very friendly and quick to put together my order. They weren't busy when I came in so they had three people helping me to get me out super fast. Great customer service. read more

I went to this store today to buy my mom clothing. It was a phanominal store, like a paradise for beautiful textiles from heaven, you get a vide variety of vivid clothing and fabric. I was helped from the start by beautiful Rimple who was so kind and patient with my mom who's in her 80's while she tried out various outfits which took quite a while. Rimple helped us select material that we were looking for plus she cut the material for us and packed them very neatly for us to transport. A little gem, hidden in NE Calgary. If you've got a sewing project coming up this is definitely the place for you. From the outside, it really doesn't look that impressive, but once through the doors it just keeps going, and going, and going... two floors full of just about every fabric and notion imaginable! They are more than happy to help you out - just ask! With so much to see, I think you would need Harry Potter's magical Marauder's Map to know where everything is. My tip to you is to make sure you have the time to wander around, have a good look high and low. Amazing treasures await the avid crafter/designer/textile lover! read more

I found the staff extremely helpull. They gave had everything I need for starting seeds for my vegetable garden as well as perreniel plants for my garden. This last year with Covid they took excellent care to keep things safe. I saw some bad reviews and felt bad for the kind people who own this garden center. It got very busy last year with Covid and the workers are worked extremely hard during the summer season. Be patient, kind and curtious and you will get the help you need is what I find! read more

HORRIBLE store and company. Get out of the store well before it closes or staff walk up to you and frown deeply. Measure the fabric yourself because they'll either short change you or won't hear you properly. This has been my experience twice. read more

I haven't been here for a few years, so not sure what to expect, or if the service/selection were as good as I remember. I had nothing to fear. I took a friend there, she was looking for a western themed upholstery fabric, but had settled for something plain black. We asked, they cheerfully brought us 3 different options, we picked one, and they cut 6 metres for us. We then decided to take a look upstairs and my friend found the most perfect, western-themed fabric and couldn't walk away! Although the gentleman who served us had already cut the black fabric for us, he quite graciously let us "change our minds" and leave the black fabric behind. I seriously cannot say enough about this gentleman (or the other one - they must be the owners). As well, the other staff were exceptional and friendly as well. I will be coming back much more regularly. Love this place, its Camden market vibe, and its huge selection! read more

There is nothing this store doesnt have. You will need a whole afternoon to see everything. The only problem i have with Fabric Depot is they dont have prices on anything. The old guy at the front will make up a price on the spot ,and then next time he foregts what he charged you and will make up a new price... sometimes its double.... hes all over the place. read more

Overall a very intimidating store unless you know what you're doing. It is VERY large, yet quite cramped. They have thousands of different types of fabric, so if you can't find it anywhere else in Calgary, you'll probably find it here. It's in a kind of sketchy area, and the store itself is a little musty and creepy - it seems to be a repurposed office space or something of the like. I can't comment on the service, as I didn't buy any fabric when I visited (too overwhelmed). Someone greeted us on our way in, but other than that we were not acknowledged. Go in knowing what you are looking for if you want to make any sense of this store. They will certainly have what you need (and more.. MUCH MORE). note: I didn't notice any quilting fabrics in the store, only fashion and utility fabrics. read more

This place is an icon in Calgary. There is definitely no place like it. You go in the door and suddenly think, "I landed in Europe. How did that happen?" I went to look for some daisy trim for a child's dress. Did they have anything like that? Not only did they have what I needed, but they had it in multiple colors and sizes.....and lots of it, on a roll, not little pricey packages! I went home with lots and lots of lovely trim for future projects. The amount of notions and trim and accessories for sewing is overwhelming, to be honest. It's just that Mr. Fabricland carries a very very skimpy line of this kind of thing...and it's expensive.....that's what I was used to here in yyc. Of course they carry fabric of most kinds, particularly for drapery, upholstery, etc. but they also have fleece, cottons and very nice selection of linen fabric. I know it's not your average chain shop and you have to drive a bit to get there. Totally worth it. Nice staff, although some might appear a bit grumpy. They sure know their stuff. read more

I first called them asking if they had a specific material. The man said yes and to come in. I went in there last night and was very disappointed. Yes they do have a lot of stock, but it's an absolute mess. i asked for some help and was pointed to 3 different places and then he walked away. I felt dismissed like he couldn't bother. I'm from Australia and spoilt with a store called SPOTLIGHT, oh how do I wish there was a Spotlight store in Calgary.... FABRIC DEPOT is the next best thing to that for me! (Spotlight back in AU is a combination of michaels, fabric depot, bed bath beyond all rolled into one!) There is such a huge abundance of fabric for me it was a fun place to be in... I did take my 7 yr old as I was hunting for fabric to make her a beanbag... I'm a fabric nut, fabric hoarder and well I could live a happy life in a place like fabric depot and you would definately need a good day if you wanted to look at everything they have LOL. I love to potter around in fabric stores exploring what's available given well... this is the only decent place in Calgary with such a wealth of fabrics, notions, motifs, ribbons, zippers, buttons and the list goes on. I'd happily spend my money here over fabricland any day! The staff were lovely to deal with and the gentleman on the floor was super helpful as well as the lady on the front counter taking my purchases. Yes its annoying that there are no prices... but hey, I've always know what i've wanted, asked the gentleman for directions to where it would be, found what I was after, asked for a price and wrote it down before heading to the counter! Given I am from Australia, terminology on blends of fabric believe it or not are different but after explaining the type of blend/fabric the gentleman knew exactly what I was on about. read more

Cramped quarters and the store has a crazy mixture of items and lacks organization. An old cardboard box has a few patterns thrown into it (don't go looking for patterns - waste of time). Prices for fabric were no better than what I can get at other (better) fabric stores in the city. I guess if you want a belt buckle, then this might be the place for you as they are plastered all over the place. read more
