Bath salts and lotions fill the shelves with straw baskets in a way that you need to touch. I would love to design my house with everything in this place. Now prices are a bit higher then an average wear house stocked with but the character of each piece is filled with conversation and years of falling in love with your piece over and over. Beautiful hardwood floors with great wear can tell you that this store has had many visitors walking through and this is a place that I will visit again.

If my home could look like the interior of the Independent Mercantile, I'd be happy. I love the furniture, but I almost love the knick knacks even more. Door knobs, door knockers, candles, some makeup, cards, beard care kits...if you're a young professional I bet you'll find something you'll like in this store. I've got my eye on the cotton curtains they sell (at least I hope they still sell them! They did one of the last times I was in) in particular. They're beautiful designed and because they're cotton they'll last forever. *thumbs up* If you like the vibes of Biscuit General Store, you'll like the Independent Mercantile. They're very similar aesthetics, though this shop focuses on the home rather than fashion. (I think they have the same owner? Not 100% sure on that one though) Oh, they have a sale section in the back - make sure you check it out for good deals!

Eco products tend to costs a ridiculous fortune. Regardless, I love this store and think it's simply adorable.

This is simply one of those great big truths of the world: once you know what you want, you will never ever see it in a store ever again no matter how many times you stumbled across it before. It was in this state that I arrived at Tabrizi - a shop I had driven by at least twice a day for two straight years without ever having stopped in. We just redid our living room and need an area rug to be the crowning glory that pulls it all together. After revisiting all of my previous haunts, I figured I'd go right to the source. Tabrizi doesn't look like much from the street and, to be honest, it doesn't have much of a boutique feel once you're inside either. But, if you're looking for rugs, you'll find them here. Every wall is covered with hanging racks, the floor is covered in piles of rugs stacked by the dozen, and there are even rolled up ones leaning in every corner. It was a little staggering, to be honest. A gentleman was happy to give me the lay of the land, pointing me in the direction of their small modern collection, and I'm sure he would have been able to be a huge help if I was looking for something more classic like the bulk of their stock. There were some close contenders but ultimately I left empty handed. He did mention that they have a pretty sweet refund policy so that folks are able to bring a rug home for a substantial time period to see if it works - super helpful!

As for fashion, there are clothes for kids at Bib & Tucker, as well as a number of shops for men and women that are unique and not your typical mall selection. One of my favorite shops is Uncommon Gear a very eco friendly place to buy toys, games and gear from strollers to every other nurturing thing kids need. Several home decor and foodie focused shops like Cucina Moderna, Backyard & Veranda (that has lots of stuff for indoors as well). There's even a branch of Stokes (always has sales and fun kitchen gear). The far end of the mall has travel agency, shoe repair...and more, plus access to Canadian Tire. That being said, it has some unique stores and a pleasant artsy vibe (especially on the end of the mall that houses Pete's Frootique). The mall is mainly centered around Pete's Frootique as a prime destination, and prime destination it is.. It's somewhat comparable to "Whole Foods" in the US albeit on a smaller scale, but it makes up for its small size with a huge variety of food items that you are unlikely to find anywhere else in the city. The mall also has a variety of the standard cell phone carrier stands, a (too?) small Indigospirit bookstore, Mark's work wearhouse, Hallmark etc. The food court is small but the quality and health consciousness of the non-chain food vendors here makes it a very attractive to stop by for a meal... especially if you enjoy fresh ingredients and want a break from the monotony and excessive food processing offered by the standard fast food chains.

Hello, I did…read morecurbside pick up today. I understand the current climate of the pandemic, but the employees of Linen Chest at Bayers Lake in Halifax NS can still be decent human beings. A pandemic is no excuse. I watched an older couple walk-out with a bag of items. So I automatically assumed, as there was no signage outside, it wouldn't be a big deal for me to walk in and pick up my order. First of all, I walked in and was NOT greeted. Instead, before I could walk pass the front mat. I heard," You gotta...."I could barely hear her, very muffled due to the mask she was wearing, hardly any eye contact, she pointed as if I had to wait in the entrance. So that's what I did. I waited for a few minutes to be asked, can I help you?, which never happened. Instead, I was ignored. I then said," Excuse me; I have an online order to pick up." Then the whole tone changed. I felt as if now, my presence was known, and I was no longer being ignored. She asked my name, and what it was I ordered, NOW I can hear her clearly because I already spent money I'm guessing. They put my four pillows on the counters. The other representative took the pillows and started walking towards me. I ask politely, " Do I take the pillows from you? "... Her reply was "Just open your trunk, so you don't get too close to me" that's fine, I respect that. But it's all in the tone. She put the pillows in my trunk, and walked away, before entering the store. She said," next time, just call the store." How about there will never be a next time, especially at that location. And have a nice day too... I've done multiple orders online to pick up in-store, from the grocery store, to home hardware, to furniture stores, and at Bed Bath And Beyond. NOTHING compares to the level of horrible service I've received today. I wonder if the couple before me and gentleman after received the same underwhelming level of customer service. If so, that's unfortunate. I was so distraught, I called my husband to cope with the anxiety that the whole situation created during my visit. Those two employees should be ashamed of their selves. They use the products they sell (in this case coffee maker and panini maker), so it's rather like a demo as well. Cleo was super helpful and informative while serving us. The store is deceptively huge. It looks smaller outside than it really is. Also, they have everything. Dinnerware. Glasses. Home decor. Kitchen appliances. Bedding. Mattresses. Window coverings. Exclusive lines. More knick-knacks than you can shake a stick at. And almost everything was on sale the day of our visit. I swear we spent an hour wandering through each section. Eventually we bought some glasses and a lotion dispenser (hush, it's a cool dispenser). The prices were awesome. I can't wait to return. This is my new first stop for all things homey.

Never mind the colourful sign indicating its whereabouts, you still have to enter through doors prior to the shop and manoeuvre your way through the small halls with low ceilings. But hey, once you've found it, you'll always know how to get there. Okay, difficulty locating it aside, this is a pretty nice little art store. It isn't too big so you don't feel overwhelmed by different gadgets, but it still has all the necessary tools for the true artist. Sadly, that isn't me. I didn't know where to look or where to even start. Lucky for me, it is small so there wasn't much room for getting lost. I ended up finding something that seemed like what I needed, but when I asked the clerk if it would be suitable for my project, he simply responded with, "I don't know." That was all. I was hoping for a little more help than that. I think he could sense I wasn't the artsy type and therefore snubbed me a bit. Even when I asked a couple more questions his response was always the same. I didn't feel too confident about my project after that. At least I know I can find this place again if I ever decide to try another project. Perhaps I'll be given a different answer than, "I don't know," to any question I may have.

I've found they can run low in stock on special items throughout the school year if there's a NSCAD class requiring specific materials. But most of the time they are pretty good for having things on hand. They have a lovely selection of paper. From Mayfair to more exquisite, textured Japanese papers... certainly a highlight for me! From all the basics to the more nit-picky tools, the NSCAD Supply Store has a well rounded body of product and at reasonable prices. There are also certain items they keep behind the counter, so if you're having trouble finding it, ask an employee! The books are mainly there for classes, however if you're interested in learning some art history or teaching yourself photography, the selection offers a great platform for some self education! I'd recommend this store for all creative individuals around the city!
