I reached out to the salon directly to let them know what happened so it could be addressed and other's wouldn't have the same experience. The management blamed me the first time, and after I posted the review, she texted my private number and stated again that it was all because of the length of the hair. As you can see in the article screenshot, bruising is caused by poor technique. I've also had dozens of waxes at this point so I am well aware of how my skin reacts. Unfortunately, the service took 40 minutes and was also the most painful waxing I have experienced. The wax seemed like it was very difficult for the esthetician to remove. At one point, the esthetician used hard wax to remove more hard wax. Multiple times the stick got unstuck and she had to place another one on, or she just pulled too early. While the esthetician herself was a truly lovely person and a pleasure to talk to, I strongly advise not getting this service.

For the ombre, vivid color, and cut that I had, it ended up being reasonably priced as well (again, very important to a college student). And I was very pleasantly surprised! The salon is very clean and welcoming. I actually liked that it is a relatively small salon. All of the customers who went in and out during my four hours there had very friendly, neighborly conversations with all of the stylists. I'm a shy person when it comes to hair, medical, or dental appointments, so I appreciated the atmosphere. That said, I also appreciated that my stylist, Terra, didn't pressure me into constant conversation as many others usually do. She appeared focused throughout the long appointment. As for her work...OH MY GOODNESS is she talented! I told her that the purple to pink ombre I wanted on my dark hair would be the first time I've ever done a dramatic change, and it turned out absolutely beautiful. I could not have asked for a better result! It took about an hour for the bleach to lighten my hair enough for dye, but Terra checked it frequently while kindly reassuring me the colors would still appear my desired shades. She patiently explained what she did at every step of the process, answering my questions about fading, hair damage, staining clothing, etc. She definitely knows her stuff; she showed me pictures of her hair dyed a HUGE array of colors--quite literally every color of the rainbow. Terra is not only a wonderful stylist, but also seems to be a compassionate and thoughtful person. I will recommend her to anyone looking for an excellent salon experience. I look forward to coming back here in the future! (Note: I would have given it 5 stars instead of 4 but for the almost rude receptionist who first scheduled my appointment. She did not greet me at all and seemed annoyed to even be answering my call. I found No 7 Salon & Spa when I was trying to track down Tracy from Hair Benders (it closed), who…read morehad been recommended by a friend for her waxing skills. Turns out most of the ladies from Hair Benders are now at No. 7! On my friend's recommendation, I drove from Decatur to Champaign for a wax from Tracy - So worth it! Not only is the price amazing ($50 for a brazilian), but Tracy is a skilled waxer. It took about 20 minutes and was pretty painless for getting hair ripped out by its roots. I enjoyed chatting with her and learned some places to check out on future trips to town, which was great. I am definitely making the trip out to the U of I campus again! Some cons: I waited 5-10 mins. past my appointment time (but again, it was so very worth it!), and when I got home I noticed some hairs that had gotten missed (no big deal - I often find thalt a few spots will have a few stubborn hairs). Also the salon has a glass storefront letting all of the afternoon sun in, so it was kind of warm inside. None of these things are a big deal to me - but may be for others. I highly recommend checking out No. 7!
