So I went through Booksy app and made appointment with Mr. Renfroe for a 515 haircut. Went to work an hour earlier so I could get off work an hour early to make my way across town in traffic so I could be there on time. I arrived at 453pm...walked in and sat down, It's a nice shop with ten or more barbers in it. Nice chill vibe , good mix of culture with rap music playing on one side and Spanish/latin music on the other but neither one too loud. SOOO after about 10mins of walking in I received a text from Mr Renfroe that it would be 530 for my appointment due to him running behind...Ok no problem only 15mins right....WRONG!. ....548 rolls around and I'm seeing he's finally finishing up dude in chair...dude gets up and ANOTHER guy who's apparently had been waiting as well hops in the chair! WTH?! So I gather myself before I get irate...get up and approach Mr Renfroe inquiring about my appointment that was at 5:15 and his only reply was "Yea I'm running late but I gotcha " ... No Dude You Don't! It's after 6pm and you're starting another client that's gonna take you at least an hour to finish! Which means I'm not going to get in the chair till at least 7pm ish! THATS BS! So again I ask what's the purpose of making an appointment through the app that will charge 1/2 of the price if you cancel too late or no show but I was neither! Piss poor planning on the part of the barber! It shouldn't matter on whether if it's your regular clients or new clients...if the client is hella late and cuts into other appointments the right thing to do is be a professional barber should let that client know he will have to be rescheduled or wait! Not push your on time clients appointments back over an HOUR AND MORE! So basically I ended up wasting time...was not able to get haircut cause no other barbers in there were available... I will never select Kee of life Cuts/Mr. Renfroe EVER AGAIN nor come to this location!!

Not being successful in finding out where all the kids get their hair cut these days, I turned to the internetZ. Coming from a recent barbershop experience that was good (the cuts were always on point; time management... not so much), I was hoping for something similar. As a result, I wear a baseball cap a lot of the time. Digging around, I came across Allure. I don't know what this part of Davidson County is called. It bothers me. I need to categorize things. It's nearby the airport on a busy stretch of Murfreesboro... what's it called? Argh. Sorry. Off-topic. So, I drove over to the advertised address and found a strip mall with some reasonable hustle and bustle. So good so far. I called ahead (a day or so in advance) so that I could have an appointment right away and not wait. I walked in, confirmed my appointment and sat in a chair. The set up is pretty typical: waiting chairs in the middle, barber chairs at the perimeter, guys lazing about. The difference between barbershops now and then is that now, the guys lazing about are checking their phones and not really interacting. Then, guys lazed about, talking trash, politics and entertainment. The barbershop was a bastion of the community and the community aspect was key. Old man rant over. I had a great time in the chair. We spoke about politics, how Nashville has changed and what changes are to come. My cut wasn't exactly what I wanted but it was good enough. I didn't come off the chair wanting to kiss myself. Subsequent visits yielded the same: good service, okay product. On my last visit, despite their being a hour before close, the queue was so backed up that I was advised to leave and come back. I appreciated the candor but I spied a couple of other barbers lazing about. I would have tried a different chair and gotten the haircut rather than leave with my jacked-up head. The owner offered a discount upon my return visit, so that quality service was still there. Allure's a decent spot to come in search of a haircut but I think my journey continues...
