I went here for the first when I was visiting friends in Turlock. Fails reminds me of an old school donut shop. They have a large variety and are priced very well. The first day I got a maple bacon bar and a "strawberry shortcake" donut; more of a dessert. The next day I got one of their super cute unicorn donuts. I went in to get some donuts here today for the 1st time. First of all the man n the lady just stared at me when I walked in then I ordered 4 donuts with the lady and when she handed me the box I opened it n saw that she had only given me 3 donuts instead of 4. By this time she had already given me my total and had charged me the 4 donuts. So then I told her "excuse me I'm missing a donut" n before she even turned to look at me she said "ya ok maple" so apparently she knew she hadnt put one of my donuts in the box and charged me for it anyway...? And after reading some of the reviews I notice it's not the first time they do this..such bad service... THEN I go to sign my receipt and the lady took it upon herself to write in $2.00 on the tip??... like "WTF?" No way to run a business. Donuts were good and I would kill to have a place like this in Nashville. But, in a crowded California market, I don't think they have anything that stands out. A couple of things I didn't like include: The frosting on the cake donuts hardened on the donut to almost a crusty like state. We were there first thing in the morning and I know the donuts were fresh, so I don't know why this would happen, unless the recipe is wrong. My 4 year old daughter wouldn't even finish her prized pink-sprinkled donut because of that. I also felt like the donuts were a little heavy on the oil. It wasn't nearly as bad as it could be in oiliness, but they donuts seemed to hang onto a bit too much. My wife and daughter were really happy with the maple bar and glazed donut. Additionally you'll often find a few extra doughnut holes in your bag or box of doughnuts. The staff has always been pleasant, and friendly. The place seems to have its cast of repeat customers in the early morning hours, which tells me that others share my opinion of the place. Decided to try this donut shop yesterday and I don't regret it! I went around 4pm and was excited to see them open (most donut shops close by 3) but they're open till 5pm. They still had a good arrange of donuts left and I got a dozen. The lady running the store was very kind, she gave me two free donuts and donut holes for free. I dont usually like donuts. My attitude towards donuts is the same as my attitude towards cupcakes. If its there and there's nothing else I'll eat it. A coworker brought some left overs from another event to our office, and I've been stress eating for a day or two (big event coming up) so I grabbed one , expecting dense, too cakey crap (a la Dunkin Donuts). Best donut place in Turlock. Prices are reasonable (about $7.50 a dozen) and their selection is always way better than the other donut shops. Atmosphere is pretty sparse - your typical small shop. But they have about 10 tables to sit at where you can enjoy a donut and watch people go by on Center Street. Donuts are consistently yummy, but nothing spectacular - all of your normal varieties with a few fancier offerings. Plenty of beverage options. If you purchase several donuts (not sure what the secret number is), they usually add several donut holes to the box. The clincher is that this is one of the few shops that makes enough donuts to still have a good selection into the afternoon. Seems every other place has just a handful of odd donuts left if you pop in later in the day. Not Fails. They've been at this location forever. Operator has changed a few times, but the donut recipes must come with the place because they've looked and tasted the same for decades. If you're in Turlock, this is THE donut place. read more
