I am a generous reviewer & was conflicted with leaving such a low rating so I opted to sleep on it…read more(for 2 weeks, no less) to make sure I still felt as strongly about my review. Unfortunately the time away from my visit did not warm me towards this establishment. First off, the selection was not nearly what I had hoped for - which I'm relieved about in retrospect since I'll never give them my business. The bolts were leaning on each other in cubbies versus hanging on the wall like other outlets. I mention this only bc it requires some rooting around to find something you're looking for. This is not a deal breaker for me, but customer service is. That being said, there were two employees present when I was shopping. One woman, behind the counter, seemed friendly & helpful enough. I wish I had asked her name so I could mention her specifically. Had she been working alone I assume this review would be entirely different. The other employee, an older woman with gray hair, was unbelievably rude & I was rendered nearly speechless! She behaved so unprofessionally towards me that I walked out of the store & had to explain to my young kids what "inconsiderate" meant and why we don't patronize places that belittle us. I'm not sure why she has a chip on her shoulder...or maybe she was having a bad day...but her attitude was unjustified & they lost a potential weekly textile purchase. It was a major disappointment all around. ----UPDATE Nov.2013---- Apparently she WAS just having a bad day and has since reconciled. I am compelled now to return to the store and take a look around b/c I am all about second chances and they definitely deserve one. Will update my Yelp once I do.

As I've mentioned in my previous reviews, I've been having a hard time finding good upholstery…read morefabric in NJ. I'm really not some sort of fabric snob, I swear! Fabric Factory Outlet's location is in a kind of run-down strip mall close to Rt 46. The interior is pretty bare-bones, and the fabric bolts are all just laying on end in rows, organized (loosely) by type, color. The selection isn't very good in my opinion. They didn't really have anything remarkable, lots of stuffy fabrics my mom might like -- but even her tastes are better than what they offered. Even if you were looking for some basic upholstery fabric (velvets, tweed-chenille type) they didn't have that great of a selection -- and the prices weren't that great. For a better selection, I'll still go to Fabric Warehouse in Belleville. Up front, they seem to offer some curtain and upholstery services, in back they had a room with discounted bolts of fabric. The staff was basically not helpful at all, and even though I am STILL looking for upholstery fabric, I probably won't be going back here again.

If you have champagne taste and want a great deal on high end yarn, you'll love this place! David…read morethe owner is a hard nosed darling. One of the bins of Moda Dea was not tagged and he gave me each cone at a fantastic price. He runs sales on top of discounts which makes this a dangerous place for any yarnivore. If you are a student, you get an additional discount. So happy I had my F.I.T. id on me. I left with two black garbage bags topped so full, one of the helpful sales gents had to help me load my car. Don't be put off by the industrial surroundings of the shop. It's a factory store open only occasionally to the public. Enjoy Paterson as you drive through it. The Great Falls brought industry here and by the late 1800's, the power of the waterfalls resulted in almost half of America's silk being produced in Paterson, hence the town's moniker of "Silk City." Perfect name choice for this business as you certainly feel like you are in a small city of silk when inside the vast caverns filled with cones and cones of yarn. Arrive early when doors open as the best items get scooped up quickly. The feeling of guilt will pass as you realize all the guys and gals present in the warehouse are in the same shopping frenzy as you. Their remorselessness is contagious. Be sure to have prebudgeted for the amount you are planning to spend or you will eating ramen noodles for three months trying to cover your rent. You can set out all the lovely cones of your yarn to stroke to distract you from any feelings of hunger.
