This is my second visit with my old junker. I've had much trouble trying to buy parts for my 74 Schwinn Varsity conversion. Trouble because many shops within the city want to immediately sell me a new one. Or want to lecture about the dangers of riding a fixed gear. That's not what I get here. The staff has been more than helpful. They scour their parts bins looking for things to keep my wheels going. They're a busy shop and they apologize for it. Please guys, don't. You do a great job. Of all the shops I've been to, Fairmount exceeds my expectations every time. I don't know much about pricing. But they seem fair. And honestly, even if they weren't. You get what you pay for.

Simple process, great price ($7.00 per hour) and great bikes. If you are not a biker and plan to ride for more then an hour, GET BUTT PADS!!! My poor tushy was in major pain after 2 hours of riding. The credit card hold of $200 per bike seems a bit much as I don't believe the bikes cost that much but hey, what the hell do I know?!?! Pay the money and ride on...

Darn, I thought that I'd be first to review but Ryan P beat me to it. Finally, a bike shop in Fairmount! This cute little place just opened on 6/12/10 and we stopped in yesterday to take a look. It's a pretty small shop but they have at least a dozen mid-priced bicycles for sale (mainly of the practical variety for around town and errands), one wall of tools & accessories, and they do repairs. The very airy space with high ceilings and brightly-painted walls was quite appealing. Hours are 10-6 during the week, 11-6 on the weekends. Welcome to the neighborhood!

This is a flower in my yard back in Ohio.

The place over by boathouse row where I usually go was still closed for the season so we tried this place on Fairmount. Better pricing, better bikes and pleasant service. She didn't make us leave our drivers licenses even! Always better to find a local small business to support too. That place on boathouse row is kind of a tourist trap anyway. So we loved our whole experience.

I rented to bikes from Jeff last weekend and I did so for two reasons…read more A) closest bike shop to downtown that I could find on yelp B) lowest 24 hour rental rate, just under $1.00/hour We spent $54.00 for two bikes for 24 hours with tax, the next closest shop wanted to charge almost $50 per bike for 24 hours, so this was the clear choice. He gave us two cruisers that had the nice padded butt seats, which were great for long term riding. Yes this place is kind hard to find because it is hidden under a large building and in the basement and yes the owner is a bit quirky and opinionated, however he came across like an average Philly guy to me. He loses one star for the pain in the ass it is to get the bikes out of his little door-way and up the narrow staircase to the street. The same one star lost is also for the low bridge in the store, I had to duck to make sure I did not hit my head. The other star is gone because I think he could do a bit better job of keeping his store clean and less cluttered. I do not know anything about his retail prices on bikes and hardware, nor do I know anything about the quality of the bikes he builds; this review is mainly on the owner and the rental experience. After all said and done, I enjoyed my experience in the store and Jeff was very nice to us and even gave us several suggestions of places to bike to and eat at. He did a great job adjusting our bikes to fit us without us asking, which I thought was nice. I would rent from him again!

As stated in other reviews, this place was awful. Walked in with a small electric scooter to buy a…read morelock for and he literally kicked me out. If you don't want an easy sale I'll go elsewhere. Went to Vias on Broad and was treated like a proper customer.
